Josif.2015
Daredevil is great in both game modes. In PvE, go full DPS with berserker stats and staff (the only place where the weapon is good) and in PvP d/p is still doing good. Not many Daredevil mains like the change that Blinding Powder got, but the build still stays viable and is far more effective than that braindead Deadeye that gets countered by both core thief and Daredevil. Its weapon that lets thief to be good in gvg or even running with zerg(kina, spellbreaker and others are much better) but its also good in roaming. Dmg is good, its kina slow weapon, but blind from Staff 4 with autoattacks is rly strong in good hands. In pve(raids and fractals) its easy to mantain good dps (in critical strikes thers a trait that gives you healing in Exchange for some dmg, that is rly good in playing with pugs), with good cleave and self sustain from Dodges. In wvw i play daredevil nearly all the time (staff, d/p, p/d condi) and Cant complain about other classes being op.I dont play that much pvp(cuz its most fking boring mode ;() but d/p is good as roamer

Shade.8971
Daredevil is my favorite PvE profession. I find it more fun than DE boring auto attack backstab routine. Rotation is simple and like Mirages, dodges are used in rotation. Most of all, it's the survivability I like. Endless dodges, condi clears, utility in stolen skills, cleave, mobility, break bar damage, and again so many dodges.
Axl.8924
I think core isn't viable for pve though, although maybe its because i'm condi thief with shadow instead of acro.I went with condi since i truly lack any power gear and i'm too poor to afford it. Scratchpaw.1069
I have alto-ism so I spread my resources over all professions, however, I was getting sick of this and decided to go with 1 main from now on. Decided to go for Daredevil Staff DPS and I don't see myself going back to any other class anytime soon. The DPS rotation in PvE is childsplay. Even just autoattacking in freeroam PvE puts me around 4K DPS. If I use the rotation, I go to about 8-14K DPS solo. And it's easy af. Great if you want to play relaxed, but also want to kill mobs with just a few hits and move on.Then there's the general mobility of a Daredevil. 3 bars of endurance which can be instantly recharged with Signit of Agility and staff/bow skill 5. Every other class just feels like a slug compared to a Daredevil. Also, stealth. Fun to use when exploring and looking for that one HP you need to commune with surrounded by enemies you don't feel like fighting. Just stealth in there, commune, bail out. It's the easiest class to play general PvE with and is also viable in end-game group content because of its high DPS. I almost always jump into a mob of enemies without thinking because if things go south, I have confidence in its mobility and just move out and back in the fight as I please. Haven't played any PvP tho so won't be able to comment on that.

I love my DD, and was inspired to roll one after a random player helped me kill a Champ HP as one. I'd never seen one in game, and they looked so awesome! My only problem with the DD is that you have to be constantly moving and dodging to maximize DPS and survivability, and that has caused me issues in Fractals, especially on maps where you are in tight quarters. Cliffside, final boss in Thaumanova, Deepstone all come to mind as instances where I jumped off something, or jumped into something, and it ended badly. I'm sure it comes down to practice, but in addition to that, Thief brings powerful abilities, but not much in the way of group utility. Its one profession I rarely see in T4 fractal groups (only seen 1 in the past 2 weeks)But for general Open World or Meta events, they are super fun to play, have great survivability, and great DPS (as dodges are also part of your DPS). lunaticdawn.1860
Daredevil is a class that is super hard to master imo. All Daredevils I have met in Fractal T1 & T2, are dead within a second in fight most of the time (especially the Joko Fractal), sometimes I have to let the Daredevil stay on the floor and fight the boss because relive him/her is such a waste, he/she will just fall again after relive. Later I have leveled a Daredevil with full Berserk Armor and try solo some PoF hero points, it took me forever to do it, I have to keep dodging to stay alive while I don't feel my skills are doing enough damage. I then switched to Deadeye and everything just die before they touch me.I would say its viable in open world and dungeons, the dodge and staff play style is satisfy, but I wouldn't have the confident to play Daredevil in Fractal or Raid, if you fail to dodge you die, a heavy burden to a team. Tinnel.4369
Staff is still a hoot in WvW. I play it with p/p, or sword on swap. Both pistol and sword are good for those outrunning your vault.

The key to Daredevil (really any thief build) in PvE fractal/raid content is running Critical Strikes GM trait and not spamming evades. A big issue is because of your high damage burst output is mob aggro in general (no matter the teammates toughness) so hold off on spamming Staff 5 until a few seconds into any team fight. Rafbrah.4850
I just came back to GW2 and continued playing my thief. I had serious troubles with D/D in PvE within the first Balthasar Mission of PoF (where you infiltrate the camp).I died approximately 10 times and I dont know how to handle dmage and survivability. My lack of skill at the moment is definitely a major reason for my struggle but would you recommend S/P for open world pve or daredevil staff?I havent accumulated 250 hero points yet so I havent leveled my first specialisation yet but would you recommend staff or D/D?A friend of mine who is really experienced and plays since release told me if I wanna participate in raids with him I should go for ascended daggers and an ascended staff. Any hints for a again-noob thief?

Any hints for a again-noob thief?Well like anything in open world, its you vs. the world, so if you're not yet comfortable with thief/daredevil, just add some defensive gear - anything with Soldiers or Valks should help until you get better at dodging. One reason I much prefer daredevil vs. core thief is that you get an extra endurance bar, and your dodges now also do considerable damage. It allows you to be defensive and offensive at the same time. I highly recommend Daredevil.Between D/D and Staff on Daredevil, I would always go for Staff, even though I find D/D super fun (love Death Blossom) it doesn't have the same cleave potential as staff. Staff #5 is also a fantastic AoE / Evade / gap closer combo, much better than Dagger #5 imo.I only have a few hundred hours of play time on my Thief, but I recently started the S4 story with her to unlock Istan, and was amazed at how much easier it was to deal with the 1st mission (the one with the crystals) vs. when I did it on my Guardian. It was almost effortless by comparison. I'm stubbornly sticking to my Guard as my main (HE is the commander on my account) but in the back of my mind I wonder if I wouldn't just have an easier time in LS missions on my Daredevil. Rafbrah.4850
Thanks for your opinion Turkeyspit. I appreciate it!Perhaps I should just bump my 204 hero points into daredevil and unlock the rest of the talents while I progress. Just that I can fetch a staff and look how it goes. One reason why I started with D/D was because I knew it was kinda meta back in the days when I remember correctly and a thief has to wield daggers in my eyes. Pretty irrational opinion, I know but call it cosplay or role play "thinking" :p Since I would like to go for a real Ninja Roleplay & Look I guess staff is also very viable. What would be your recommendation for the offhand? Somewhere I read P/P is kinda fun combined with staff...Back in the days I started him using S/P - Shortbow but I remember that as too static for my taste. Sword 3 is just standing and smashing thats not thief-ish for me so really looking forward moving to staff and daredevil skills!Cheerio

It's otherwise straight terrible and will stay terrible until Death Blossom is reworked entirely.

Looks are kinda awesome with the right setup but I felt D/D to be too hard for me in solo open world, PoF missions and stuff. I died too much and often switched to the short bow because I prefered less damage/ more survivability over 10 deaths in one mission.Yeah like I said, its been a long time I used my thief. S/P was the pve meta when i remember correctly back then. Also I noticed that I didnt have full berserk armor pieces but valkyrie, that was also meta back in the days when i remember correctly (pve). But now I'm full berserk, got my staff and I'm running staff/shortbow. A lot of fun I must say. steal/2/5 are just awesome skills in my opinion and the daredevil heal skill is boosting my evasiveness even further. Exactly what I like about being a thief :)Thanks guys for the tipps, have fun!
Bunny.9834
Yes. I love playing them in sPvP just because of their versatility. You can carry your team pretty well if you're familiar with the mechanics of each map. In WvW, i see more DE's roaming with D/D and Rifle, but you can counter them if you're good. I only use Staff now for PvE just because it synergizes well with CS and Signet of Malice for sustain. Also if you watch WP, there's a build that let's you distract Qadim.
