Just a reminder how fast Anet is at fixing bugs and problems :)

Recommended Posts

I always love it when i encounter bugs in this game and then look in this forum and see posts about this exact bug from YEARS ago. Like this bug:https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/6541/is-there-a-way-to-replay-the-way-forwardOctober 2017... its now almost march 2020, 2 and a half years later, and absolutetly NOTHING has been done to fix this. The only thing that happened is that the linked thread got locked...Simple bugs not being fixed in literal years... just sad...

Bugs are scaled on how game critical they are and thus when they have to be fealt with, a very common practice in sofrteare development.

For example, the recent bug where warclaw mounts speed golems in WvW, obviously unintended, was addressed within 24-48 hours since it is a rather critical bug to the game mode.

The bug you are talking about is so minor and insignificant, it probably has not made the list, and also might never do due to the continued developing nature of this product.

You are obviously free to assume and complain as you see fit. Maybe dealing with minor bugs first and leaving critical bugs unattended, as you seem to be suggesting, is the better approach.

EDIT:The edit button worked just fine for me. See?

I love GW2 and am still enjoying the game a lot, but I have to agree with this sentiment. Guild Races are another example. They have been bugged since the launch of HOT (they will often end prematurely when the first guild member crosses the finish line - but not always).

I think the reason is developer turnover and Anet's general tendency to do something awesome and then forget about it as they move on the next new and shiny thing.

The best example of this is the shooting gallery mini-game in Divinity's Reach. Since the BETA WEEKENDS (7+ years ago), an npc in Divinity's Reach will give you directions to a minigame that doesn't (and HAS NEVER) existed, going so far as to put an indicator star on your map to lead the way. That NPC is still there today - still giving directions to something that has never been in the game.

Anet is great at coming up with great ideas - they aren't so good at supporting those ideas long term.

Do be aware: Some 'bug-fixes' will break more things than fix, and that is one reason some bugs don't get fixed.
Some are in a queue for priority, and may always stay near the bottom. Some are fixed before they are ever seen.

As for the 'Edit' button, you must have the requisite rank to edit. If you had only one star when first creating this thread, you would not be able to edit. As you seem to be a new poster, that was probably the case.

The corner wall sections on DBL garri is probably still missing, or did they fix them this patch? They've been missing for... 4 years? 5? Oh I cant remember anymore. You'd think it would be easy to just fix a little static object - it's not even a destructable wall - but no. Apparently it is not. Fixing a wall has literally been taking longer than producing an entire AAA game from scratch.

What you call a bug I call a feature. They give you the reward for a guildie getting through the race. I don't see this as a downside. People terrible at races can get a reward. The guild doesn't get credit until you get 15 people through however. The race doesn't actually end. This to me, for a guild that doesn't need any currency ever is just a time saver.

Same with treks. Treks give you a personal reward as soon as you do one trek. To get guild credit you have to do all five, or all fifteen or all thirty. I don't think that's broken. I think it's fine the way it is.

It is impossible to chase down every single bug of a game as big as this. The real question is, do bugs affect daily play or are the mostly negligible or rarely encountered in a severe fashion? I'd say the latter, don't think GW2 is much a bugged game compared to games. I did run into rare bugs tho a few serious ones too, like events get stuck until new map server and reported for years. But nearly always i don't have problems. It won't help anyone with doomsaying of how they "don't care", the reason you believe in that is you need to get a positive view on things in life again instead of letting the negative overwhelm your vision and slowly drown out all your faith and belief in others. Start looking for the signs of hope, rather than the signs of doom. Searching for the signs of doom is just a distraction from facing how you feel about yourself and how your life is going.

Most bugs are very minor. Do you really want them to use dev time to look through 10 years old code on core maps, to fix an event that maybe 2 people in the world care about? Because there is a 10% chance of it triggering? Without knowing what would even cause it to begin with?

The answer should be no.

Not a smart decision at all.

Contemporary content is where Anet's focus has always been and they need to focus all their time and money on making sure that is the stuff that doesn't completely bug out and makes it unplayable. We have seen many cases where some new collection required old events and they were suddenly flooded, causing new or very old bugs to come out of the woodworks. That's a shame, those are the ones that get fixed.

Minor annoyances do not need to be fixed, if a company does it they do so out of their own good will (or rather a dev has a passion project or simply really cares)

no, every bug, even from 7 years ago, has the right to be fixed.don't try to hide behind current fixes of current problems when bugs that exist since launch are ignored, so yes i responded correctly.

and none of them are things they should've fixed months ago, you're looking at stuff they fixed for that one patch, not for old bugs they never bothered to fix.also, all of the fixes they did would cost them if they didn't fix it, they even add stuff to hide their own lack of support.

That wasn’t your post. Your post wasn’t ‘old bugs being fixed is a rarity’. It was ‘bugs being fixed was a rarity’. And that’s what I responded to. Perhaps you should edit your post if you said something different than what you meant.

no, every bug, even from 7 years ago, has the right to be fixed.don't try to hide behind current fixes of current problems when bugs that exist since launch are ignored, so yes i responded correctly.

If you assume infinite available budget and dev manhours then of course all bugs should be fixed but if budget and manhours are finite then the most important bugs should be fixed first and longevity of a bug is not the most important criteria. The impact of the bug on players is far more important and I doubt people would be happy if the devs spent time fixing bugs based on how old they are instead of how important they are.

Not to mention that it has been stated before that fixing some bugs may very well break major things, so they have decided not to expend resources toward them.

The acceptance of *playble product.

It's absolutely insane to believe games can be bug free, especially not ones with thousands of variables that can change from day to day like an MMO. What if one skill interaction from a class that wasn't originally released just happens to break this one part of the game that's been that way for 6 years? There is no "perfect code", devs work on making things run as flawlessly as they can, but just like the balance of an ever evolving combat game it's an impossible task.

Something like this. If we didn't accept that some bugs are inevitable and that they can be addressed by priority, we'd be stuck with software from the 80s.
