Need help figuring out something?

Recommended Posts

So I've hit level 80 and started doing a bit of endgame stuff like world bosses, fractals and I've noticed that the people in the groups/parties I join look way cooler than I do, cosmetic wise? I know that weapon skins you can buy for a lot of gold? And some people have legendary weapons which is also a lot of gold and than there's people that have super cool looking outfits, they usually say they bought it from the gem store or something? So was wondering what I have to do to get cool/ or atleast somewhat cool looking outfits and weapons/weapon skins? Is the only way to get this is by making thousands of gold which is can take a long time or are there some other ways of getting cool outfits and weapons?

Theres a lot of decent to good looks depending on armor type that are non gem store. Some of the Dungeons have good looking pieces. I've found mixing and matching to typically give the best look.

Like Indigo said try the wardrobe in the bank to experiment with what's obtainable and see what you can find.

Options

Outfits - gemstore (means using real money or converting gold to gems). The black lion voucher isn't farmable, so getting those isn't really an option for youArmour and weapon skins - drops, collection rewards. Always keep an eye on your achievement panels for new skins you like. A small number are available for gemsLegendaries - takes a lot of work, grind and/or gold. Long - extremely long term goals

You can preview colors too. Only it's a little "user hostile" as you have to open the Trading Post, go to the Others/Dyes and then right click and Preview. (Be careful with clicking, accidentally buying unwanted stuff has already cost me loads of gold.) You can place the dye in 4 slots in the preview window to see how it looks on various parts of armor/outfit. But when you want to check another dye, you need to clear the slots first (right click and Clear) because only the first dye changes without it. And don't use the Reset button if you have any armor skins in there, it would clear the whole preview.

If you want to try how outfits work, I suggest you get an Endless Common Clothing Tonic from the Trading Post and exchange it for Common Clothing Outfit at a Black Lion Exchange Specialist. It's not that fancy, but you can get it in-game, it's quite cheap and it let's you try if you actually like Outfits at all.

All kinds of places. It's not really possible to answer that question because there's hundreds of places in the game where you can get unique weapon and armour skins but each place generally only gives one or a few styles, so it really depends on what you want to get.

For example each dungeon has a unique armour set which is only available there, and each one is different. So if you want that style you have to do that dungeon and then buy it from the vendor with the tokens you'll receive (or do the WvW or PvP reward tracks which also give dungeon tokens). But you will never be able to get anything except dungeon armour from dungeons. So it's no good someone saying "do dungeons to get cool armour" because if you don't like the 1 set available from the dungeon you choose then that's useless advice for you.

Look at the armour galleries on the Wiki: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_male_heavy_armor (Use the menu at the bottom to choose your race and armour weight). Pick one which you think looks good and then click on the name to find out where it comes from. Don't forget you can mix and match different sets to customise it. If you like the shoulders for one set but not the chest piece you can just get the shoulders and choose a different chest piece to combine it with. You can also use the wardrobe menu in the bank to see how it would all look together and on your character.

Same with weapons, there's hundreds of different skins available, but all from different places so you need to decide what you want first, then find out how to get it.)

(Outfits are an entirely separate system which is nothing to do with armour. They're one-piece 'costumes' which hide your armour. That has the advantage that you can keep the same look while changing your armour, and can wear things which don't fit your characters armour - for example a light armoured character can wear an outfit which looks like heavy armour. The disadvantage is you can't customise them at all except for dye, you have to wear the whole outfit together, and they only come from the gem store so you have to spend real money or a lot of gold to get them.)

Yo thank you for that long reply it actually really helped and I respect the fact you took the time to write all that thanks a lot bro. So I looked at all the images and I liked this armor called Nightmare Court armor its heavy armor, so I think it should be fine for my warrior? Could you help me figure out what dungeon I can get this set from ? I'll probably just work on this set, looks nuts xD Here's the link to the image as well

All heavy armour will work on your warrior, yes. :)

That one comes from the Twilight Arbor dungeon. So your options are to do the dungeon paths (it must be explorable mode, not story mode) to collect tokens and then buy it from the Dungeon armour and weapons vendor in LA, or you can do World vs World or PvP with the Twilight Arbor Dungeon reward track selected. Either way you'll need multiple repetitions to get a full set of armour, and neither is really better, it's just up to you which way you prefer to do it.

If you want to do the dungeon I recommend making your own listing in the LFG menu. You might see one already which you can join, but if not you can create one and it will usually fill up quickly. Advertising the group doesn't mean you have to lead it or anything, it just lets other people who want to do the dungeon know there's a group they can join.

There are some skins that you only get from reaching certain Achievement Point (look in Hero Panel for that section where you can see chests for bonus on your account). What you describe sound like skins that you only can get from progressing in https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Achievement_point_rewards

Another option which I haven't seen mention in post above, is when you use Salvage Kit you get both materials (for crafting) and unlock that skin. You need to save up Transmutation Charge that you will get over time from playing or can be purchased in Gem Store (can convert Gold to Gem, if you don't want to use money to purchase Gems). https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Transmutation_Charge_(item)

As explained you can preview item from Wardrobe, even change colour (dye) on each part of armour (weapon can not be died (yet)). Most items havea two option or four depending on what kind of option there is. You can also change colour on Outfit, Glider and Mounts. Some colour change a lot how they look depending on what kind of surface that they are to represent, so need to use preview to get an impression of how it would look on that item. Don't forget that different type of lighting in game world can make it hard to recognise what you have previewed and felt looked good and in game look very different.

When you change something in Wardrobe, you don't need to confirm or reset while you change skin or dye. For Outfit, Glider and Mount is free of charge to change look this way (only colour). Only confirm when are satisfied with your look and want to test it in game (outside of preview).

Collect dye or buy the cheaper one over time, so you will have enough of options. From Salvaging items you will have a collection of base skins (some isn't that bad when one start to use colours on them and you a free to combine skins).

Important: It is possible to preview most things, but when you equip items then they will for most part become soulbound (meaning only that character can now use that item; not even characters on your account can "share" that item) or account bound (meaning you can use it on all characters on your account, but not trade it or mail it to another account). ERGO: Never equip an item before you know if you want to keep it, and make sure what it is worth on Black Lion Trade Post (auction house) if you would want to trade that item into Gold instead (remember that you can exchange Gold into Gem).

You can always complete maps or do the things that reward a black lion chest key https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Lion_Chest_Key for a chance at getting a direct drop, or a claim ticket that will let you pick a fancy skin. There are also cheap or karma-bought skins that have effects. One thread listing them is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2u89k3/what_are_some_cool_skins_that_are_easy_to_obtain/

“Cool” is subjective, but might help you find something.

The Non-Gemstore Armor Showcase!

Since I'm blind I work with friends and family to get an aesthetic I want. It's an extremely long process with detailed verbal descriptions and a lot of me going "eh... I don't know is there something like this?:. The dyes are me describing the color scheme with someone doing the actual clicking for the dyes. I love all my characters to be completely thematic, from including armor, weapons, and mounts.

I have 18 characters total, with every race and gender combo and 2 of every profession. All the others are still in early stages of work. Again, this process is extremely long since I'm blind.

! Herald! Went for an Ascalonian Knight theme. Skins listed below.! Mist Scrim, Burden of Koda, Luminous Heavy Cuirass, Luminous Heavy Gauntlets, Body of Koda, Paws of Koda

! Reaper! Ascalonian Reaper with the following skins:! Devout Helm, Council Ministry Vestments, Vigil's Honor Gloves, Council Ministry Hose, Council Ministry Shoes (shoulders hidden)

! Elonian Dragonhunter! Went for a classical era look for my elonian character. (think Roman occupation of Egypt).! Pit Fighter Chestguard, Pit Fighter Wristguards, Pit Fighter Skirt, Pit Fighter Greaves (helm and shoulders hidden)

! Elonian Firebrand! Just a straight-up Elonian theme.! Spearmarshal's Chestguard, Spearmarshal's Gauntlets, Spearmarshal's Tassets, Spearmarshal's Greaves (helm and shoulders hidden)

! Canthan Chronomancer! Wanted a Canthan look for my chrono.! Heritage Masque, Stately Garb, Stately Gloves, Conjurer Pants, Stately Footwear (shoulders hidden)

! Canthan Mirage! Again, Canthan themed. Not happy with the pants, but it's the closest I gan get. Shoes as well.! Adventurer's Scarf, Elonian Vestments, Embroidered Wristguards, Embroidered Pants, Elonian Shoes (shoulders hidden)

! Canthan Daredevil! More Canthan themes. Happy with it.! Daredevil's Scarf, Assassin's Shoulder Pads, Assassin's Coat, Scout's Gloves, Elonian Leggings, Whisper's Secret Boots

! Deadeye Sniper! Wanted a cool sniper look. Happy with it. The helm is gemstore, but the Noble's Mask is essentially the same.! Magitech Helmet (can replace with Noble's Mask), Stalwart Shoulders, Stalwart Jerkin, Stalwart Gloves, Scout's Leggings, Scout's Boots

! Scrappy Pirate! Want a pirate theme, and this is a serious work in progress. Not happy with it but it's the best so far. Again replace the helm with Noble's Mask I want a pirate hat that doesn't fully hide the hair.! Magitech Helmet (Can replace with Noble Mask), Marauder Jacket, Vigil's Honor Leggings, Bucaneer Boots (shoulders and glvoes hidden)

Edit: The images don't seem to be embedded, can someone help?
