Wouldn't be the end of the world if it isn't full of projectiles. But I wouldn't be surprised if they even found a way to cram projectiles onto a scepter.

Hammer is the dream though. Hammer and boon rip. Or just good damage and CC.

Boon rip,  so it makes hammer a complete garbage for regular PVE, redundant for instanced content (since we have tons of boon ripping already), and only useful for PVP and WVW? No thanks.

We need hammer to become for the first time BIL weapon for any class in regular PVE, so damage galore, please.

Put your PvE blinders off, will you?

Druid is strong in PvE (well, spirits are, druid is a good spirit bot) while being an awful support in pvp/wvw. Soulbeast is the best damage spec ranger will ever get in PvE. Nothing will beat it. It trades the worst part of ranger when it comes to dealing damage for extra stats and skills. A hammer spec won't kittening outdamage it anyway.

No thanks? You know what I say no thanks to? A third elite spec and still having my main class shunned away from WvW content.

Scrapper hammer has been the best weapon for engineer with scrapper.

That is definitely true although for ranger hammer would need to play with an skill set closer to GS with CC in focus.

Boon rip could come with the utilities skills and definitely ranger needs that.

It would be nice (although I don’t know how to effective) the pets would combo hammer attacks like if the ranger hit with a CC the pet automatically does a dps attack to the target.

Let’s see I have my suspicions the ranger reveal will be the last…. Which I am not sure it’s a good sign.

I think the same. And it will become a rifle ranger with 5 great projectile skills ... tadaaa. But sry guys, we don't have time for proper beta event or changes, we must release a week later 🙂 ... *cough* 3. heart of thorns beta *cough*

But on the flip side two of the specs are already melee focused, so the danger is there of getting another range spec for us =\

I chose the Ranger and Elementalist as my two initial / main classes because I like the archer and wizard fantasies and playstyles.

Even the name, it's not even "hunter", it's range-r.

Point is, how many actually like druid and soulbeast as opposed how many have to play it to feel appropriate. I didn't recognize anything but longbow rangers in the outside world yet.

Of course, if core ranger is / will be completely fine and accepted (downplay from "wanted"), it's fine with me to have additional specialisations I don't really touch. Four playstyles, pick your poison.

... Okay, the problem is the interaction design, people don't heal health bars but cast area of effect with a small radius so absolutely everyone must play melee and clump up while providing same utility. Gotcha. (Hyperbole. But I suspect this might be a factor both in design and execution.)

Guns would make sense as... you know the incoming pun, I don't have to write it.

Scrapper has never been a decent class for PVE, so we are still waiting for a PVE decent, if not meta class, that has Hammer as BIS weapon

For reference, my posts are almost always coming from a competitive standpoint.

Core ranger is far from 'fine' by the way--I realize you may only see longbow rangers in open world because open world you can use anything.  This does not mean the spec is fine in the least.

I'd do some research on GW1 Warden to understand where those of us that want a melee weapon like hammer are getting our perspective from.

It comes from the ranger/warrior build called bunny thumper. The elite skill of ranger increases the attack speed of pet and your ranger. The ranger uses the hammer with adrenaline skills from the warrior. In this way he can attack without using energy and so he can use all his energy for pet healing and the expensive elite skill. The increased attack speed produces more adrenaline, so the ranger can use expensive adrenalin skills more often than a warrior.

It has nothing to do with the wardens. Rangers need some kind of aoe and some kind of non-projectile weapon. Wardens are just some enemies from the kurzick echovald forest.

They did have time to destroy the trait lingering light thou  and replaced the orbiting orb and the fun mechanic behind it for a bland passive buff. And with that simple chnage they needed to change a lot of stuff about the celestial avatar because of smart choices. Gosh that tickles me on the wrong side so much....

I have to say to give addrenaline mechanic to the ranger it wouldnt be that bad of an idea. Having access to the F1 for insta win button would not be that bad and is not like the pet needs that F1-F3 actions, with one switch F3 to attack\return to me action would be enough.

I'm not sure if you've seen the livestreams regarding the three revealed specs but you may want to check that out.  The willbender specifically references existing Canthan lore, and all three of them tie into Cantha somehow.  So Warden would be the Ranger's tie into the lore, in both name and function.

You're the one quoting me to say "no thanks". The objective fact is that ranger is fine in PvE and less fine outside of it.

There is no saying a spec with boon strip can't do respectable damage in PvE or that the boon strip needs to be tied to the weapon. Either way, won't outdps soulbeast if you want to be optimal about it, that spec will always remain our best power damage spec for pve unless things are drastically changed.

This is a given, isn't it?

They mentioned from the beginning that all elite specs coming with eod will have lore ties to Cantha in some way.

This being said, no elite spec so far has referenced something from GW1 Cantha in their name directly. So maybe the name of rangers might be different, even if they have lore connections to the wardens.

That's right, but the hammer build "bunny thumper" has nothing to do with a warden. And nothing on the icon looks like a warden to me. I've mentioned in anotehr thread that it looks much more like the new siege-turtles with the 2 laserguns 😞

If the new e-spec can transform, I think it would be more possible, that he will transform into a Juggernaut from kurzick side. Maybe there is a pendant on luxon side.

Ya I get bunny thumper, I'd just be far happier if it were like the Wardens--just some crazy forest protecters with giant hammers 😄

Well, the only thing that I really want is a class that can use Hammer as BIS weapon to play as "near-to-meta" in PVE. It seems that if that happens with EoD, it will be with ranger's next spec.

More relevant definitions to the profession of ranger....

Range - a large area of open land for grazing or hunting

Ranger - a keeper of a park, forest, or area of countryside

Pull of your PvP blinders.

More people play PvE and PvP only specs have never been well received.

What blinders? The ones that make me able to tell you that ranger has gotten two specs in a row that is more than decent in PvE? I'm not asking for PvP only spec, I'm asking for anything that means it can excel in competetive modes, doing something different than what ranger already do and which two elite spec did nothing to change (at a viable level, compared to other professions). Ranger is one out of two classes without a WvW zerg meta build (immobbeast is too niche). It is still stuck being a sidenoder or a second rate +1'er in PvP.

Tell me, how is a hammer ranger gonna outdps a soulbeast? Because that's what matters. You can casually play a "PvP spec" (you say specs in plural, but the only PvP spec in this game is spellbreaker and that spec is keeping warrior alive in competetive modes - I think they're okay with that) in PvE and do just fine. But when you join a fractal or a raid, people would want you to play soulbeast anyway. So what difference does it make to you?
