Name of voice actors that portrays the Modniir Ulgoth?

I was watching Galaxy Quest tonight and after hearing Sarris speak, (The primary antagonist, played by Robin Sachs) I came to the realization that his voice sounds just like the Ulgoth world boss. I have searched IMDB and the wiki and can't find any mention of the voice actor for the Modniir Ulgoth. I wanted to make an addition to the wiki and IMDB and give him credit but it would be great for someone from ANET to confirm this so the late Robin Sachs can be given a place in GW2 history.

Quck check on the wiki doesnt mention any Robin Sachs, but then again it doesnt mention Ulgoth either. I just find it highly unlikely a voice actor is used for a specific NPC and nothing more, so his name should still be on something. Otherwise if I where to guess maybe its Liam O'Brien?

Wow, this is weird. I just noticed that voice actor while in the Crystal Desert in the last couple of days. Sadly I forget which zone. and what character.

I immediately pegged it as Sarris and wondered if it was the same actor or a mimic.

Considering the location I heard it, obviously the actor is doing more than one voice.

Good luck on running down who it is.

Hmmm. If it was in the Crystal Desert, that does not bode well for the theory as Robin passed away in 2013 from a heart attack. He had such a unique voice and it would be interesting if there was another voice actor out there with that same reverberant, baritone quality. I will have to go and look around the zone now as well! :D

The short story: It's hard to find out for sure who did which voice. In this day & age, it's still something that's not easy to find online ... or even offline.

Apparently, ANet doesn't keep track. They have a list of requirements and they pay a casting director to find people. They obviously listen to and help with offering notes for changes, but they aren't intimately involved in the hiring. Because of that, ANet often doesn't know who did what voice. And as it turns out, the actors don't always know — they are given the name, but they do so many voices, that they probably don't remember unless it was special for some reason.

Recently, one of the devs has gone to the trouble of asking the casting agency for names from recent stories/maps (I think in response to some questions during AMAs), so we sometimes have more info... if someone bothered to add it to the wiki (which doesn't always happen).

For example, I've been hearing Sam Riegel all over Tyria these days and because I really dislike Braham, I started paying more attention to which voices he's documented as covering... and for which there's no mention. (Spoiler alert: he's the voice of Braham, the minstrel Marcello DiGiacomo, Tizlak, and Herr Gnashblade — quite a repertoire.) He also does the voices for some heart NPCs (e.g. Jackal area), a lot of the Djinni, and various minor guards. None of the lesser roles are documented anywhere that I can find, even when the characters have distinct names or roles.

I keep hoping that ANet's Community Liaison who handles all things wiki (the incomparable Stéphane) will have some extra time to ask the casting agency to send a list of names and publish after launch, but I can't imagine @Stephane Lo Presti.7258 has time to do the things already on his to-do list.

@Gaile Gray.6029 said:ArenaNet staff members attend voice-acting sessions, and we keep records of the artists who are involved. I'll ask one of the ArenaNet team members involved if she's able to answer this question.

Good to know. (I definitely remember an ANet employee saying otherwise; I'll chalk that up to a faulty memory.)

@Gaile Gray.6029 some people really like to add this sort of trivia to the wiki. Do you think that "one of the team members involved" would be able to liaise with someone at the wiki to get more of those names included? I know I'd be willing to parse lists to make the data more easily published; I'm sure there are more active contributors that would, too.

I shouldn't think it was them, but you've just made my next DS run rather more distracting. =)

Every time I feel like Randy Marsh is screaming at me.You mean Laranthir's VA Crispin Freeman? Sounds absolutely nothing like Trey Parker's Randy Marsh. Like, ABSOLUTELY absolutely nothing like him.

I think it might be Jon st John (Duke Nukem), He is listed as doing multiple voices.

Bulvox? I've never heard him having this for a name. Was it originally Bulvox before release that was changed to Ulgoth?(or is Ulgoth a rank of Modniir centaur and Bulvox his actual name?)

@Konig Des Todes.2086 - (Hiya!)Would you happen to have any knowledge you could share or link to on centaur/modniir hierarchy and naming?

Very interesting.

Thank you very much, Eve.

This name would be a gem if it was displayed in game.

@Dashiva.6149 said:Man, I was sure it was Liam O'brien who voiced him! Sneaky voice actors, always keeps you guessing.

GW2 truly have a bunch of great actors.

Edit: and the wiki on Ulgoth should be updated to include Peter Giles as his VA.

You can edit the Wiki, or if you don't feel your skills are up to it, you can leave feedback on the 'Talk' page, and another editor will attend to it, most likely.

Good luck.

  • ArenaNet Staff

There seem to be some misconceptions about the VO, so allow me to elaborate.

Narrative is important to us here at ArenaNet, and so we are involved in and guiding the process from start to finish. While we do partner with a vendor for booking and signatory purposes, we make the casting decisions. A narrative team member and a VO specialist are present at every recording session to guide the recording session because creative quality is important to us.
