  1. I don't - I watched the thing live, and as far as I know it's still available for viewing. It was the ArenaNet dev who first referred to LS5 as a 'saga' (as did most of the marketing from ArenaNet afterward) and the host was the one who asked her what the difference was between season and saga, not the other way around. In truth, there was no difference and that's why the dev sat there with a haunted look on her face. Not that it matters, since he was an ArenaNet-sanctioned host and not a random guy off the street. He was chosen by ArenaNet for the stage reveal, so acting like he's an uninformed outside party to try and shift blame off of ArenaNet for any confusion that might have resulted is just attempted damage control. In any case, I only brought up that IBS stage reveal because the hype for IBS is inherently tied into the hype/marketing of EoD. We can talk for a long time about what IBS could have been had things happened differently, but that's irrelevant to the point I was making which is that IBS was ultrahyped and then didn't deliver and therefore people may expect the same thing to happen with EoD.
  2. Yes, that's what I said. 'Water' in GW2 is mechanically determined by the fill level (as far as I know), but there are also purely decorative puddles, decorations, etc. which do not qualify. We'll find out what Windswept Haven has by late February.
  3. I'd be open to guild halls being created for areas in the core maps, but I think they should prioritize tidying up the guild hall system first. A number of people have put forth laundry lists of improvements they'd like to see made to missions, rewards, decorations, scribing, and other guild content, so an update to address these paired with a handful of new halls seems like good packaging. Going even bigger with this idea, they could also put out a chunky patch of QoL updates (visual noise reduction, more settings) and core game TLC (repairing stalling/disabled events, broken metas), as there are quite a few things that have been broken/incomplete almost since launch. Using the living world as a tool to draw people's attention back to core maps might also help with the delivery of this imaginary update. It'd be a big investment of resources to be sure, but if you were to bring guild halls to central Tyria, I think this would be a good way to handle a lot of related items at once.
  4. By the Six; did we finally find the thing you want them to spend resources on?! I agree with you. I hope they do it at some point and give us a nice library.
  5. Trufax. I remember a friend showing me how to climb all the way up into the sky platforms after I lamented the map not being in its night cycle. As I recall, it involves starting on the Dust Mite plateau and carefully working your way up through the vines, mushrooms, and updrafts. Once you're up there, you can get anywhere in the map that a chopper would take you, it just takes a bit more finesse. As for the twisty nature of HoT maps, it's a valid complaint. I really enjoy Verdant Brink, but it's easy to see how someone could get lost or frustrated during their first few visits to HoT maps. Without mounts, it takes longer to get from place to place than some players are used to or comfortable with, but once you get it figured out, it's not only easier, but you're able to enjoy the scenery more as well. I'm glad to hear OP is taking another look at these maps.
  6. It's hard to say without knowing what you typically enjoy in expansions. There was another thread a bit ago asking if the expansion was worth buying, and people had various responses to that, so maybe some of them will help you. In terms of what EoD offers, you'll be getting: - A Canthan-themed guild hall - A turtle mount that seats 2 - A boat that seats a full party - Fishing you can do anywhere in the game with qualifying water (triggers swim skills/is on the water fill level of a map) - Some new Ranger pets (Imperial Phoenix, Tiger, Mud Wallow) - Story & Related achievements - Probably 4 maps - Several Canthan-themed armor sets - 9 elite specs - Gen 3 legendaries (Able to be traded/sold, will have a variant version to represent each elder dragon) You can review their streams to see if you like what's included in each of these points and whether that's worth it to you, but those are the main things coming with EoD.
  7. I think they're talking about the attempted hype from ArenaNet. If you remember back to a certain stage performance where it was proudly (and repeatedly) announced that IBS was going to be expansion-level, mind-blowing, best thing since sliced bread, etc. and then look at how IBS ended, you might then understand why, when they began to say things like 'we cut IBS so EoD can be amazing!!! All hands are on deck! All resources have been diverted to make EoD the best expansion we've ever made!' some of us sat there thinking 'Right, but last time you promised something earth-shattering, it wasn't really.' Since then, ArenaNet has been using very grand terminology to describe their upcoming expansion, and I think that's a dangerous gamble after what just happened to LS5. If they were willing to cut something off at the knees that they were blasting as loudly as IBS and the thing they cut it for doesn't match the hype they're trying to generate, that might be a nail in the coffin for some users. I don't need EoD to be the 'best ever' (I'd honestly settle for 'just kind of okay' at this point since that seems realistic) but if they keep tooting that 'it's gonna be epic' horn, I can see how that's gonna turn out. I'm in the camp of 'play it first, then decide how you feel about it', but when people say they say they're concerned the hype won't match the product, that's why. Also, as not to get too far off topic from this thread, I kinda agree with the OP that we shouldn't expect too much from the story. I'm not very often moved by GW2's writers. They've had some really good moments (Trahearne's fate + after quest, Claw Island, That one cinematic with Team Rocket Aurene), but usually I just kind of shrug after a story segment and wish there were more consequences for people's actions. I'm hoping EoD will have some bright points in it, but I'm not expecting them.
  8. Wanted to thank you in an actual post instead of just slapping you with a trophy (which I will also do). Most folks who post a duplicate thread don't realize it's a duplicate, and it was kind of you to point them toward a recent one that already exists instead of going on the attack. I hope more people follow your example in similar situations.
  9. They say you'll be able to fish 'anywhere with water', but that doesn't just mean any place that looks like water. 'Water' in GW2 is determined by a fill level set across the entire map, as I recall. So anything that pops your swim skills would be water, but the fountain decorations, decorative streams, and ankle-deep spots wouldn't be. By this criteria, I'm actually very curious to see if you can fish in the diving buckets, because even though those are tiny, they pop your underwater skills and as I recall there are even some in WvW maps. With regard to Windswept Haven, I think you might be out of luck unless you break out of bounds and hit the water level that way.
  10. Thanks lads, but as it turns out I was already aware of this. None of those options are a gobbler called the Cold Turkey. I'd also support a gobbler for Hatched Chilis, but I haven't got a snappy name ready yet. Any ideas?
  11. Hmmmmm. Solid maybe? I'd probably have to see data I don't have access to. I say that because I'm not sure how much gold gets taken out of the economy by waypoint usage and how helpful that might be to the game. If it's negligible, then you might as well make waypointing free, but if it's significant and useful, probably better to leave it be. Damaged armor used to cost money to repair until ArenaNet decided to make it free, so I wonder if this wouldn't have a similar noneffect? It is a mystery~
  12. Yes, but difficulty isn't the topic; fun/enjoyment is. The OP found the process tedious/repetitive compared to other mount journeys, and others have said similar. Improving the experience to be more variable and fun is the intention here. If the Skyscale experience can't (or won't) be improved, then the feedback in this thread serves as consumer input for future mounts/systems that may come further in GW2's lifespan. I tend to agree here. Whether it's the Skyscale journey, the way living world gets advertised/packaged, the introduction (or lack thereof) of new game mechanics, or some other speedbump to enjoyment, new and returning players seem like a demographic you want to watch carefully. At minimum, you want to be aware of what those people are saying when they try the game (or come back to it) instead of acting solely on the opinions of diehard fans.
  13. Changing the expansion logo's color is kind of an odd tactic if recognition is important to what you're selling. It's possible they intend to rotate through all the various specs with a different color assigned to each (as Sobx suggested), but even that would be an odd choice. And really, of all the colors they could have picked, I'm kinda surprised they didn't change it to neon green and call it a day.
  14. I dunno; whenever there's a lottery and someone wins the jackpot, usually every news outlet available makes mention that 'someone' won. More relevant to GW2, when players run raffles and giveaways, I normally see them issue a 'thanks for playing' message when it's over. The benefit of this is to offer closure to those who participated so that they won't be left hanging in addition to the disappointment of not winning. Sometimes, this is also when competition runners announce their next upcoming activity/attraction, so for example ArenaNet could announce the end of one contest and announce a new one (or make reference to an upcoming trailer/stream/expansion) to keep the energy going. It's not really something to be demanded, but I always appreciate knowing when a competition I entered is over so I can move on. Kinda like if you went on a job interview and then never heard back about it - closure isn't strictly necessary, but it's appreciated.
  15. This is more about introducing a bag that functions differently as opposed to just holding more. In fact, aiming for 32 slots would probably be a better bet than 40, since legendary gear is, statwise, the same as the next tier down and so, for a bag, having the same slots as an ascended bag makes sense - it's really the flexible filter-changing and entrance into the armory that'd make it legendary. I suppose it ends with the reasonable need - probably whatever criteria ArenaNet took into account when they first introduced the 32-slot bags. If the average character with completely maxed bag slots is still running up against storage issues (even with something like a legendary bag in play), you might then see requests for additional purchasable bag slots per character and/or a class of bags larger than whatever the current maximum is at the time. However, I think most people's on-hand storage needs can be sufficiently met with the amount of bag slots and 32-slot options we have, which is why the request is for a bag that works better, not bigger.
  16. Yes to this. Also, if we got a gobbler for eternal ice shards called the Cold Turkey, I wouldn't be opposed.
  17. Fixed an issue in which loadouts were being mistakenly marketed as 'templates' in the gem store Fixed a server crash In all seriousness though, I do wish they'd look at the whole system again and either try to improve it or remove and re-implement it in a better way. With the money involved in the things already sold to people and with resources so thin within the company, I understand that any solution pursued would cost time and effort they may not currently have, but this seems like a big enough issue to enough people to be worth pursuing at some point as they move forward.
  18. That's a poster using sarcasm and an out of context quote from a separate thread about a separate topic to try and make Gibson look like a hypocrite here in this one. On this topic, and in this thread, I don't think I've seen anyone trying to use 'but the children!' as an actual argument against swimwear - that's why Gibson's telling you no one has done that here. You were right in your remark that it's a silly argument to make anyway, because it totally is. In the thread that quote comes from, Gibson expressed relief that their daughter, who doesn't enjoy skimpy clothing, is no longer automatically put in a skimpy outfit after character creation. In this thread, Gibson is cordially invited to join my beach volleyball team when swimsuits are released. We still need an opposing team though, so if potential rivals will please RSVP no later than the end of February, that'd be ideal. Note to self: Wear swimsuit while playing Crab Toss... 📝
  19. Do you have any source(s) for this? Everything I've seen so far says they were working on projects, but not what the projects were or whether they had anything to do with GW2. That'd be pretty huge news if it were confirmed that GW3 was in development and then shuttered.
  20. Yes, but it's also worth noting that after they pop out of the pod, they get seen to by a pod tender and then handed off to a mentor who schools them in the basics needed for survival as well as instructing them about Ventari's teachings and trying to fill in the gaps left by the incomplete nature of the Dream (as Sylvari all get different information/levels of knowledge from it). Then, once they leave the Grove, some of them seek further education under specialized mentors - you can even see a Sylvari out in Astorea crying because her mentor told her she doesn't have the aptitude to study what she wants and instead sent her to go learn Thief (?) magic. Lots of interesting stuff regarding education is hidden in ambient dialogue, and really the only examples of formal schooling you see are the academy in Vabbi, the "Queensdale Academy" outfit in the gem shop, the classrooms of the Priory (and Salma orphanage), and the Fahrars of the Charr. The rest is just NPCs talking about getting lessons or kids rebelling against their parent's teachings, so I imagine that while Tyrians are born with magical ability, they still have to hone it with the help of family, mentors, or paid institutions. In that regard, that's probably why you still have simple farmers relying on you (the player) to fend off bandits and wildlife, because they don't have the magical knowhow to do it themselves.
  21. Which is fantastic. I like when we have choices! And speaking of choice, part of the reason why I haven't voted in the poll for this thread yet is because it just asks for the Kasmeer and Faren bikini pieces instead of an array of swimsuits (which would be my preference). If ArenaNet does the thing, I hope that in addition to being an optional purchase it also gives options in terms of style (Bikinis, trunks, one piece suits, wetsuits, etc.) so that swimwear isn't just a buns-out kind of deal. People can be thrilled (or not thrilled) by the idea of swimwear, but at the end of the day, what's being requested would just be another fashion choice. The difference between a t-shirt being available at a shop versus someone chasing you down and forcing the t-shirt onto you (as was the case with the starter gear that got adjusted recently). As for the complaints that people would be 'forced to see' swimsuits, I'd direct them to the usual answer given with regard to infusions and other eyebleed: Set model quality to low. We already survive ungeared characters and light armor; we'd survive swimwear just fine.
  22. So, just to be clear, if someone isn't doing the meta, you will also stop doing the meta? The critical thinking on display here is astounding. Sounds like an opinion based on nothing, tbh. Do you have a 'weird furries & character species' chart you've been curating for the past 9 years? Please share.
  23. Agree with your post, but honestly I've even seen this kind of thing between roleplayers where a guild or group of individuals will claim a public space and/or harass other writers and demand they leave because they're in 'owned territory'. It's super silly, and some of them have been doing it long enough to garner a reputation in the community. You'll get psychotic players in every corner of the game, unfortunately, but make use of your block list and keep enjoying GuildWars2 in spite of them. I'll take a handful of RPers on a map over multiboxing autofarmers any day.
  24. I like to think they're just a thumb print mark the Pale Tree puts on them when they're done baking, like a peanut butter cookie.
  25. I'm glad you asked, and by glad I mean oh lord, here we go to butt town. The simplest answer would be the closest thing we have to swimwear right now, which is naked model underwear and Southsun minis (which can be displayed everywhere). In terms of legitimate full moons with 0% coverage, there were glitched items in the game for a time which gave a full front and back view of all of the everything on character models and you would not believe the tender love and care given to the back half. I've seen it. I can't unsee it. Now that I know what lies beneath, the buttcapes feel like a mockery. As for revealing clothes, most of the bootycentric garments are for female models (guys get buttcapes, bustles, or flat expanses of featureless sorrow; law of the universe, I guess) and either give skin-tight visuals, an easy view all the way up the thighs (as with the Elonian Elementalist outfit or many of the various core Tyria pieces like the Masquerade Leggings) or, by virtue of clipping, sitting in chairs, and interacting with objects, a full view of the bare backside. Apart from butts, we also have the fullbody glory (terror?) of the Starborn Armor which I've seen dyed to look like flesh. And let's also not forget the assortment of lightweight and Sylvari cultural armors , some of which are just a string of beads and a tasteful leaf over the booba. People seem largely fine with the revealing garments we currently have (visible legs, arms, sides, groins, thighs, lower backs, side of butt, clearly-defined-in-tight-pants butt, gravity-defying modesty leaf, and astral nudity). So, with this kind of thing already in the game (atop the fact that you can just remove all your gear and see one (1) scanty person), I don't see swimwear as anything more than yet another light armor ArenaNet could capitalize on. And buttcapes? I think a number of armors would look better without them, but that's a topic for another thread.
