  1. This is a toxic take, and I'm not a person who typically uses that word. Calling other people weak because you don't understand their situation or value their feelings is pretty much as cold as you can get, especially when what's being asked for is basic or standard in most online social spaces. Being willing to endure bad actors on the internet (or anywhere) doesn't make you stronger or better, it just makes your sensibilities different and also isn't a good argument against improving the GW2 social systems.
  2. It's also very prominent in the new Ranger, Engineer, and Necromancer specs in such a way that it overpowers whatever visuals you've got going on underneath all of the effects. Rangers (or their pets) are covered in a gummy, sick green. Necromancer's got fart legs (which is funny, I'll admit, but probably not for very long). Engineer gets a giant robot made of glowsticks. The problem I'm having, both with the green in the specs and the green in the maps we've been shown, is mostly a matter of ratios. Bright colors can look amazing in a design - when used artfully. A bright green outfit with a dark trim will stress my eyes, but a dark outfit with a bright green trim is far more tolerable. A wall of eye-catching green mosaic tiles along a plain wall will draw my attention, but a massive 40ft tall wave of neon peppered with wood planks is going to make me want to look away. All final judgments to be reserved until we're actually over there and seeing these things with in-game graphics in their finished state, but I can say that currently I am aesthetically concerned for EoD.
  3. Not a fan of the oversaturated green and the clumpy shape of the waves shown in the trailer. Looks more like solidified goo than anything else (no sea spray, foam, texture, transparency etc). There are some citing nostalgia as the reason for their displeasure, but I just don't think this looks like petrified water regardless of color. If I had a hand in development, I'd be encouraging devs to try and match closer to the green/teal used in the concept art for this region and add more character to the flowing shapes. I'll of course wait to see what it looks like in game, but if it's this vivid all over the map, I probably won't spend much time here. Some of the map looks like it'll be okay though: That cave (or what I'm assuming is a cave) is neat. If it's a relaxing spot where I'm not constantly evading enemies, I'll just live down there, thanks.

LFG could definitely stand to see some improvements, but the issues in Drizzlewood are purely related to the Return To achievement rush, much as they were in a recent thread regarding Forging Steel. Luckily, as with Forging Steel, these achievements are going to get a lot easier once the rush crowd moves on. I understand the frustration now, though. Here's what I observed when doing Drizzlewood today: - People AFK waiting for others to work up to the meta for each half of the map - Cache keepers being obliterated by people camping their spawn locations - Map population dropping sharply after the cache keepers (either because that's all they needed from the map or because they were trying to snag keepers in other IP addresses) leaving roughly 15 people to complete the entire north meta (which we did, it just chugged until the Claw at the very end when people who had been AFK woke up to tag credit) - Inability to join most groups in LFG (went to Drizzlewood manually instead and was lucky enough to get there just as a new map was being created) Because this map closes after each completed north meta, it's entirely possible to have a hard time getting a south meta at all on top of whatever other issues people are running into. Not a great feeling right now, but hopefully OP has a better time once the frothing settles back down.
  5. Harassment is not a modern issue. It has always existed, as have requests for features to help combat it. This isn't new. People asking for basic tools to curate their social experience in an MMO isn't a big ask, and many games already have these as an industry standard. Why GuildWars2 chooses to lag behind in this regard is peculiar and worth discussing. I understand the kneejerk reaction to say 'well, people should learn to socialize' or 'can't you just block them?', but that's not what this is about. This is people looking for practical ways to deal with those who can't behave themselves without having to resort to requesting intervention from a higher power. The current social system in GW2 has weaknesses that have been well-documented in this thread, and to me that seems like a solid reason to consider changes. If adjusting the way the friend/follow/block system works would remove stress from users without introducing new stress, I can only see this as a win for everybody. No one should be against this, and thus far I've not seen a compelling argument for why someone might be opposed to the introduction of something that's normal in most virtual social spaces.
  6. Heads up, but this post is virtually invisible on dark mode. I like using shields and outside of combat I consider them a free cosmetic back item. As implemented, they serve my needs, but I don't feel strongly one way or another about how they function, so if people have ideas for improvements, I wouldn't be opposed.
  7. This is a great idea, and I can already envision community groups holding fishing competitions for real life charities (with streams and such). I hope the fishing minigame is engaging (and doesn't murder my wrists), because that will be a huge determining factor when it comes to how popular this feature is (or isn't).
  8. I agree that an upgrade to the friend system is overdue. There are plenty of valid, harassment-related issues to support such a change, but also there's simple QoL missing that might have the additional benefit of alleviating some of those interpersonal problems if it were to be added. For instance, it'd be nice if you could: - Tick a box to show/hide the character model/effects of those you have blocked - Add notes to a person without having to block or friend them - Mark yourself offline without the friend panel broadcasting that you're still actively playing - Customize your whisper preferences and unchain them from your online/offline status There are plenty of things that could be changed for the better in the chat panel as well (ability to copy text & right-click names in /e, for example) but that's more of a deviation from the topic. I see no reason to hold onto a system's current iteration just because we've had it for a while.
  9. That moment when you realize your t-shirt is actually made from plant materials. But no, you're right, it's weird. I don't know why it be like it be. All I know is that the pinched little butt in the Sylvari opening loading screen is hilarious. The pinched little butt will always be primary canon, no matter what armor you pick in character creation.
  10. Look at how the legendary armory and related compensations were handled for people with duplicates. You'd probably see something like that. I wouldn't be against compensation for people in your situation, but it probably wouldn't be anything amazing just based on how similar things have been handled in the past. Their TOS states that they can change items (or their value) at any time without notifying users, so even though it'd feel crummy, they'd be within their rights to do this. I also think they'd make more by having the initial set (or share slot that comes with your first set) be an accountwide upgrade, but it's just what I think. I don't really have data to say so for sure, y'know? But yeah, if they did that and maybe tweaked the pricing on additional sets to make them a little more attractive as impulse purchases, I can definitely see people starting to collect the skins and glyphs more frequently. Making gathering tools accountwide has been a pot banged on for a while now, so I hope eventually they take a look at that since GW2 encourages having (and actively playing) multiple characters.

  12. In support of the idea, but it's down to the implementation. Right now, you can buy a set of infinite gathering tools and move them between characters as you please, so in a sense they're already legendary. What we'd be adding is a way to use them across all characters more efficiently, ie: by having some kind of accountwide slot that these tools would click into (or by adding them to the armory to be withdrawn at will on any character). Right now, some people opt to buy multiple infinite gathering tools (at a profit to ArenaNet) instead of going through the hassle of unequipping tools and sending them manually between characters, so I think ArenaNet would probably monetize those accountwide tool slots in some way to try and make up the difference rather than just making the tools available accountwide for free. Conversely, making these tools accountwide for free might increase the amount of people across the game who buy the tools at all, since the benefits of doing so would jump massively. Hard to say which would be more profitable in the long run, but I do think profit would be a deciding factor.

  15. I don't think a whole lot was shown in the teaser, so I can't fully weigh in. I also have no idea what those poll options are supposed to be, so - Lukewarm reception? I will say, however, that I was under the impression that the Echovald region was like a dark spooky cathedral forest and I didn't get that vibe from the trailer so much as a ramshackle jungle ruin/outpost. The room with the catwalks and chains looked kind of neat, but I guess the map just doesn't feel as mysterious and foreboding as expected. Opinion may change once we can actually go there and look around. EDIT: Finally got the opportunity to sit and watch the Guild Chat stream as well. I see now why people are saying this feels like a Heart of Thorns map, because it very much does, maybe with a bit of Metrica Province Inquest presence thrown in there. The fog and general shape of the map seem fine, but the overpowering green makes the place seem more lush than creepy. I guess I was expecting sort of a muted, ashen palette with yellow or cold lighting in the places that light could be found.

  17. Best guess is that they wanted to ensure people would populate Forging Steel for those who wanted to group up (both now and later when FS is no longer a highlighted activity). Second best guess is that they set the requirements for the achievements without looking at how many nodes are in the instance (or with the assumption that players would know where every single one spawns in). If nothing else, artificially extending the lifespan of content by asking you to repeat it is in line with the entire theme of the Return To cheebs. As for being the least popular strike mission? Can't say I agree. On the contrary, when I try to find a party for strikes, usually Forging Steel is the only thing people are advertising. Among friends, this mission is referred to as Cat Camp, and even running it with pugs has largely been a positive experience. That said, it's really just a 10-man dungeon in my opinion (a series of events and mini bosses leading across a map to a final boss) and therefore not a strike mission at all. I really enjoy dungeons, so my opinion of Forging Steel is probably more favorable than some people's. Currently, I'm chipping away at collecting the runic armor, and Cat Camp's a relaxing alternative to strikes when it comes to collecting the required prophet shards (you get these from the end chest in addition to other loot). You can also work on a neat cape while you're in there, so that's nice.
  18. Well, making threads here is the best bet you have for obtaining a dev response, though the chances of that are generally pretty slim. If I'm reading this correctly, you feel like your PvP amulet will be devalued by the PvE amulet and you want to be able to put them both in the Mystic Forge to receive a third, new legendary with a new cosmetic effect? I'm sorry, but I disagree. You did PvP and you got one amulet. People doing the Return To achievements are doing PvE and getting one amulet. There's no inequality here. Both amulets require you to play a single game mode a lot for the same tier of reward.

Boy howdy, this varies I guess. 20-50 silver is usually my go-to for someone just porting normal, non-challenging puzzles, 1-5 gold for really frustrating puzzles (sent to each Mesmer if a chain of them are helping people through), variable amounts of gold for someone who is porting and also doing so on a hilarious character, 1-5 gold for effective commanders running HP trains or other dedicated content. Tips, at least for me, can also be affected by someone's demeanor. If a person is aggressive or openly begging for tips, I'm not as inclined to use whatever service they're offering. Once, I had a person - sitting AFK in the Khan Ur cavern, offering in LFG to let people join their squad and use a TP to friend for faster access to the chests there - send me an angry chain of in-game mails several hours later demanding 10 gold for the service (despite their LFG saying 'tips appreciated :)' and nothing more). Most people aren't like this though, so don't let it put you off tipping helpful players. Your mileage may vary when it comes to tips, when to give, and how much is appropriate, but mostly people seem happy to be sent whatever whenever.
  20. Honest answer? The people quivering over the thought of not being able to respond anonymously or not having their emoji register in someone's notifications. If reactions are no big deal, it shouldn't be an issue to have someone suggest their removal or a toggle that lets you filter them from your notification feed. If people shouldn't care about reactions being here, why should they care about them being gone?
  21. Forging Steel is one of the few instanced pieces of content that scales really, really well. Try entering a squad version of FS by yourself if groups continue to bail and disappoint you. Not only can you grab gathering nodes at your leisure (the tank breaks down if left unattended, but you can just slap some scrap on it when you're ready to move forward), but you can actually beat the entire instance by yourself. It takes a little longer, but the scaling is some of the best you'll find in GW2. I was able to get all the Return To achievements in Forging Steel in two runs (one full to the end and then one just to grab the last few nodes/events). I agree that pugs can be frustrating and disappointing, but at least this go around you don't need anyone else if you understand what you're doing (most of the difficulty in FS is related to mechanics, not builds or DPS). Another bonus is that people ran Forging Steel pretty regularly even before this series of achievements; if groups are frustrating you now, you'll probably be able to find more reliable ones after the achievement crowd moves on.
  22. I don't hear a 'no' there. Dang, this relationship is moving way faster than intended. And to think all I had to do was want swimwear in a videogame that lets you swim. Your mom can also attend the BBQ and weigh in on GW2 fashion if she wants; she sounds responsible.
  23. Neat, we agree about something! You finally understand four pages of people telling you it's about the ridiculousness of an achievement comprised of 37 simple tasks and one quite challenging task with no in-between. The lopsided mixture of difficulties is what it's all about. You asked how I'd do the breakdown of rewards if we were to separate out the tough dive and I answered, but the rewards were never the point.
