You mean Anet should punish those people who supported them with money and award those that cried and kitten on the forums?

They would make it even worse for everyone. Those people who were desperate or crazy enough to spend 9000+ gems made that purchase under the reasonable assumption that this would be the only way to get the mounts. Anet now changing terms completely would be a big fu** you to all those who supported them. Why the hell should they do this? So that people like you get their pleasure out of the thought of it?

Unlike you they don't want to punish unreasonably generous players.

Edit: I find this argument in particular funny that when I think back to GW2 going f2p or things like that, the same people would cry about Anet "not caring about the veteran players" and that they want free stuff because now the new players get all the free stuff.

Should the original new Xbox owners get mad when the early adopters that bought it even when same as in this case people went online and whined about the no trading and the always online and having the kinect always connected? The thing is these early adopters got that product and was fine with it. Later certain parts were "updated" and removed, but certain factors did not.In the end now, they now have made what... 2 or 3 versions of those new Xboxes now? Supposedly better than the original without all that tacked on crap. Many of those wanted the system but they paid extra for even that little camera device that they didn't even want, but they wanted to be an early adopter.

Can you tell me at which point did Microsoft say "Let us reimburse you early adopters for paying for a device that you didn't even want and was told it still needed to be connected anyway but now you can let it rot in the corner"? Because I would really like to read that.

The thing is the 1st buyers of things are always the lab skritts. Where you hear cases of broken devices, scratched screens, dead pixels, buggy/faulty products, bad programming and weird situations. They would later maybe fix the problem, but they never bother with the beginners.

The early adopters bought into this, they got exactly what they wanted out of it. And the dealing/transaction already went through. It's not Arenanet's fault people were too hasty with it.

This is ... just no please. I would love to buy some of the normal mount reskins (no cosmic or fire theme) and would pay for them but putting them behind a roulette wheel to maybe get what I want is bad. I would be upset if I got the cosmic griffon, unlike others who are hoping for that exact mount. I also don't like the idea of really just wanting a raptor I can recolor and getting 3 springers in a row.

Seriously hate this.

We are not entitled to anything for FREE, but we do get a ton of FREE updates to the game. You want FREE optional cosmetic items that have zero impact on gameplay? Exchange your in-game gold and get them for FREE.

Don't know where you are drawing the parallel of vanity items to "p2w" items. Sad.

I can't buy my desired mount skin. The only option is gamble. Do you go to casino to buy some stuff for yourself?

There are a lot of questions I have about this new system Anet has developed. I would like a Dev to be able to answer these, if they can.

1: The new mount. Does it come with new masteries? What masteries does it use? It is going to have skins too?

2: Are there repeat skins? If I say, decide to buy the $100+ stack of RNG, is there a chance some of those boxes will be wasted because RNG gave me a repeat skin?

3: If there are repeat skins, are we compensated for that at all? Overwatch for instance gives currency for repeated content from lootboxes. Will this have a similar?

4: Do any of the skins have a higher percent chance of dropping then the others?

These are some rather important questions. Knowing exactly how it works helps prepare people for their potential financial commitment. Considering the psychology behind pay mechanics like this, clarity is greatly needed.

I will say I do not like the lootbox system. I do not approve of the gaming industry turning to gambling mechanics in order to make money. I find it an abusive practice considering the psychology behind it and how many people, especially young people, who are vulnerable to it. And I am greatly saddened that Anet, a company I have trusted to have the players at heart at all times, has done this. It feels like a betrayal. I don't know if the people in charge of this decision are aware of how many kids they are exposing to gambling and getting them addicted early, but they really need to do more research and reconsider.

@Oglaf.1074 said:People are not mad about the skins being premium content, no.

People are mad because they were implemented as a form of gambling.

Had you been able to pay 400 Gems for each skin - knowing full well which skin you are getting - it would be business as usual. This, right here. Anet, just sell the skins. Enough of this gambling nonsense. I won't pay for something if I can't see what I'm getting, and I sure as heck won't pay for 30 of something when I only want a few of them.

Yeah, it's just gambling at this point, which is fine in game with in game items (ecto skritt, etc.) But once it starts involving real money it becomes more problematic. There's a reason the US (and most other nations) have such strict rules on gambling. Casinos, lotteries, etc. They all prey on people who are either easily addicted or desperate, so they restrict gambling to only operate within small specially licensed areas. Unfortunately, these rules don't apply to online games yet in the US. Hopefully that changes soon. I've seen that issue pop up a bit recently and it's kind of gross that arena net took advantage of this loophole to push gambling. So I definitely see where the issue is now.

@Natto.5819 said:We are all paying players. I think we're entitled to good items because we've paid money into this game. We should get mount skins for free , but if Anet is going to step into Asian MMO luck of the draw content, they should just go full throttle. Bring out 2,000 Gem swords with x2 damage, or 400 Gem tickets that give a 0.5% chance at x4 damage weapons. Just like peeling off a bandaid, do it fast or it'll hurt. When I was an addict, I was forced to go cold turkey or I might not be alive today. If Anet does this RNG content too slowly, the players will be feeling the pain longer.

I don't know... when I used to wear bandaids, I used to wear them until they just slowly came off.

I guess you never played an Asian MMO or even a mobile game. It's a natural progression from mount skin RNG loot crate cash grab to full P2W RNG loot crate cash grab. This is where it feels like we're headed.

Think of it this way, how much did you pay for your PoF expansion? Now how much will getting all mount skins cost?

These mounts don't have single price, so you can;t tell they are worth their price.

All the skins are AWESOME!!! Don’t worry about gems, just buy them and enjoy!!!

Did ANet pay you to make this statement? Seriously, there are people for whom 120 EUR is a lot of cash. Most people, actually. It's a total rip-off.

No, Anet didn’t pay me. So silly of you to think that.

The skins are optional, and do not have any impact on gameplay, so let’s not be all mean to Anet over this.

you must be new here.

No, while the skins are optional, yes, you have two separate issues here.

First, and most insidious is the deliberate preying on individuals with addiction issues that will end up spending the money to get all of the skins via compulsion, even if they shouldn't be spending that money. I'm sure you could look up the correlation between addictive personalities/behaviors and MMOs. This is predatory behavior on Anet's part and it just doesn't look good on them.

Secondly though, and probably the easier thing to understand here is this:If Anet simply offered each skin at say 400 gems a pop and maybe the new one at 800 gems and these people on the forum and elsewhere all eventually bought the (lets say for arguments sake 10) ten skins they most wanted and even the new one (cuz its cool) that's roughly 4800 gems for lets assume here 50 people each. Thats 240000 gems, or roughly 3000 dollars american. Now, this is just a small sample, but I'm willing to wager this number is WAY higher in reality. We're talking serious money. The problem here is they have made it an RNG system which has left such a bad taste in these 50 people's mouths making them opt to not get any skins. For those keeping up, that amounts to ZERO dollars american. Now, from a business perspective I'd rather we get the first number and not the second, but apparently anet thinks their whales will float them on this one, so let them have at.

I'm sure their quarterly numbers will tell all. And it won't look good.

You mean when it would get all black and rot away because you just left it on? That's not a good analogy for this game.

No update is free. Everything is paid for by box sales or microtransactions.

You pay ZERO in monthly access fees for this game. ZERO. You can get every item off the gemstore for FREE.

Tell me more about these Asian mmos that give free monthly access and a path to every item on their item store for free?

But, skins have absolutely no impact on the game itself; it doesn't alter the mechanics, it doesn't change its core, you can purchase them if you want or not, your choice. Also, I've played Gacha games and they are 100% P2W, you have the whales with a gear score of 400K and then there's me, idling at around 220K. There is a reason I stopped playing; I was getting literally nothing for my money. Zero, zilch, just dupes and rares. I understand the anger, but I don't understand the link between Guild Wars 2 and Gacha games. :/

@Preyar.6783 said:1: You do a long "quest" with collections and everything after you have done the PoF story to gain it. It then unlocks masteries too. You can get skins for it without having it unlocked so beware of that.

2: No

3: No repeats

4: No, else Anet would have told so

1: not talking about the Griffon mount. Talking about the 2000 gem mount in the gem store.2&3: where'd you find that info?4: I'm really not so sure about that.
