so, I just bought the expansion pack and I’m already stuck with the “train mastery to advance” meme. Now, how do I do it? Well, I do anything that grants XP, right? The problem is I keep finding Group Events that are impossible to solo. There’s the wounded pup event where you have to collect plants to heal it while defending it from a literal army of mobs. Then there’s this wolf that literally killed me in one hit despite running my tankiest build. And the real problem is that despite the expansion pack being what, 2 weeks old, there’s no one near those events. Sure, the map isn’t empty, but everyone is busy with their own stuff, and most of the time when I’m not alone, I'm wasting my time rallying downed people…

so, could you please lower the numbers, HP, and damage of those events a little bit? I know they are group events, but come on, they’re grossly over-tuned.

Have you considered opening the LFG to join a "Levi farm" squad or a "Arena squad" or a "chill event squad"?  It's literally 6.45 AM in the morning my time, and there are people advertising stuff in the LFG. Not to forget how many easy events there are to do. The adventures give 30k exp on silver, and even more on gold. There's a fishing competition event at the northern shore where you probably receive gold reward for catching one or two fish. Felling trees with your Warclaw (east Lowland Shore), repair the bridge (Autumn's Vale), the fish-related event chain (also Autumn's Vale) and the "super compelling" gathering event at south-east Janthir Syntri. The list goes on and on.

All in all I think there are as many solo events as group events. Thing is almost everything you do on the first map is an achievement, that you probably want too.
For group events tag up and use the map chat.

Solo events - first half of the map (eastern side):

  • Collect edible shrooms
  • Cut woods
  • Kill wasps/grubs near the honey trees
  • Gather honey
  • Catch the pups before they eat the cabbage
  • Dance with the kodan (only at night) - though maybe it takes long alone? Never was alone.
  • Help with gardening
  • Escort a bear poisoning valravn nests (spawns a soloable boss at the end, if more ppl are around it'll scale up to champ though)
  • Clean the ocean
  • Fishing tournament

Also there are often people in/near the arena where also group content.

Second half of the map (middle and western side):

  • Collect frogs (not sure about that because of the rather short timer for soloing)
  • Catch fish (you can't solo the follow up event, kill drake champ though)
  • Prepare fish (if drake champ wasn't slain this event may not pop up)
  • Collect wood to repair the bridge
  • Infect yourself and get examined - repeatedly
  • Clean the ocean
  • The two pre event for the borg queen are probably soloable too (escort some Kodan and squish some maggots with the warclaw)

Also get XP buffs. Like from your guild hall, boosters, food and the other buff thing. Bonfire if you still have one. Gobbler. Resting bonus (from soto or eod)

Cheap XP food is: Soul Pastry (alternative: Bowl of Candy Corn Custard)
For the utility/potion buff thingy sort the tp by cheapest, they all offer 10% xp

Truly compelling content.

Peak content! I mean, felling trees, building a bridge, collecting frogs and picking poop are the kind of breathtaking heroics I expect the commander to be doing multiple times a day, for weeks in a magical world. High stakes!

so, the only thing I can do is participate in these incredibly boring events? I mean, overpower champions, timers and do-the-same-100-times? Sure it looks like the devs really made an effort to take the worst features from previous maps and make them even worse…

Enjoy the expac!

You're right, this game sucks, you should stop playing ; p

It's an alright time-waster while I wait for other games. This expac is subpar in both content and story. OK, the homestead is alright, but I'm waiting till all decorations release before I keep spending materials.

Eh, I'd say it's more about how you started a thread about how you couldn't get xp bc no one was doing group events, then when you got the answer you would have been looking for if your complaint was legitimate you pivoted and decided it's not that the events aren't getting done it's that they're lame. But please, if you have a complaint you're willing to see addressed, feel free to express it. Just be aware your motives are transparent . . .

I agree some events didn't need to be group ones. I find though, mentor tag up and/or call out for help and people will come most of the time. It's one of the best maps we have ever had and now the intial burst through is over, people are around playing them more

its an MMO. ask for help.

seriously, just ask in map chat. or look in LFG (or, shocking idea I know, put your own LFG up).

people are really helpful and once you realise there are others who probably want to do the same thing, or are just passing by and feel helpful, and you get over the inhibition of posting in map/lfg, then getting stuff done becomes almost trivial most of the time.

Just ask. solves most problems.

you started a thread here, if you'd just ask in game with far less effort involved, you'd get stuff done.

btw, you want to train masteries quickly and consistently? rifts. chain run rifts.

Anything which gives XP will train masteries. If you have enough people to do them quickly group events can be the fastest way, but they're certainly not the only way. When I got to that step, where I needed to unlock the spear mastery, I went around the kodan village completing the heart and doing some non-group events along the way, then I went back towards Moon Camp aiming to get some POI's I'd missed and did events I found along the way. It probably wasn't the quickest way to do it, but it was the simplest, I was just wandering around seeing what I could find.

Also as several people have pointed out it's a multi-player game so if you find things you can't do alone the solution is to ask for help. You could ask in map chat, or if there's enough time left on the timer for people to see the message and get to you LFG or your guild/s as well. It is more convenient when people just show up when you need them, but it's far from the only option.

I spent the afternoon doing my fishing cheeves in both maps and they were both very active . . .

I will say that something probably needs to be done about the general ignorance of players regarding the lfg system, bc simply explaining it in chat doesn't seem to be working . . .

EDIT: And this was a Sunday afternoon fwiw, probably more active than a typical weekday or late night session . . .

I am finding a bit of the opposite.  WvW/PvP player here, running a druid roaming build...balancing sustain, damage and mobility....Running on a Sunday afternoon there were almost always 2-4 tags up doing bosses. Your experience, obviously, has been different so as others have said it may be related to the hours you play.

I just explored the new world. I attack bosses as I encounter them....As soon as I got a boss down to 3/4 health or less, helpful people came out of the woodwork to join in the kill. Then, I just tagged along with the others WvW style. Having said that, it would appear people are apprehensive to get into these boss fights unless they are going the right way.

Rallying people....you are running an insta-rez skill  in your utility bar as  as part of your downed player rotation, aren't you?.

Sorry WvW/PvP support talking there, but I was truly happy and surprised with how well my WvW build performed in this PVE content. I did not have to rebuild my main. Yes , there is a zerg like quality to some of the boss fights. In WvW/PVP being too glass or too tank will get you killed. I found I really needed to use my mobility and positioning in a familiar way. It felt fun, and I might get more into PvE. I want  challenging  game play...not just a reward for slogging through content. It's the travel not the destination for me. Having said that, a balanced pet build did help. This content may not be the best balance for your profession and your build to run solo.  However it did fit my build and saved me a lot of time and gold, that I would normally have had to spend revamping  my character to access a few useful items in the expansion.

Talking to wvw people, they will pick up the expansion eventually. So I fear there will be a trickle of people over time rather than a large sustained push for completion with this expansion.

So you're the one running around ganking bosses! 😄

The only event you cant do solo is Meta.
If you die easily, you dont have proper OW gear and build.

Proper meaning = you need to have max boons solo especially 25 stack of might and deal 25stack vulnerability in a short time to mobs, in the meanwhile, you need to have condi cleanse and sustain, I mean passive heal. While you provide this, you need to deal max damage to opponent.

If you cant provide some boons on yourself or vulnerability with traits, there are relics and sigils to cover you. Not all relics and sigils are trash.

For instance, I play in JW maps with Hammer Catalyst. I can provide almost everyboon except alac. Sustain is coming with trait and heal signet. If there is champion I need to deal with, I take water elemental elite to get extra heal. I covered condi cleanse with relic. (My biggest problem to cover) . I have very good OW mirage too but cata has better AoE damage for fast progression.

Long story short, look over your character build, gear, anything. Every character has this kind of builds.
