An even easier fix, if you already have at least one active character and can play the game, is to use the Friends tool in-game. Type in the name you want and see if it's already taken. Then create your new character.

I would check the wiki (still being brought up to speed for EoD) for the various currencies and what they're used for, because different people want different things. Are you gold farming, collecting armor skins, finishing collections? It really depends. If you plan to make one or more Gen 3 Legendaries then I agree that getting the AnSuStones - to avoid its unfortunate acronym -- would be good.

I think a lot of the initial confusion came from ANet saying in a live feed that acquiring the Siege Turtle would be "comparable to getting the Roller Beetle." That's almost a direct quote. Now, you and I and everyone can debate the vagueness of the word "comparable" because, really, anything can be compared to something else. I and others assumed -- wrongly as it turned out -- that they meant getting the ST would be as quick and easy as getting the Beetle. So I guess they meant something else and probably regretted the "comparable" statement because the arguments have been ongoing for a month. Honestly, I don't have a dog turtle in this fight any more. I cared at first release, but then decided that I didn't want the ST anyway, and upon seeing STs in the world I'm glad I didn't get frustrated trying. It's not my style and not something I would use. Sour grapes? Probably a little bit, but I'm OK with that.

Agreed. 4. Something that was salvageable last week or the week before no longer works. 5. Sometimes the item is consumed and gives ZERO research notes. Seriously, I would love to read a calm, direct message from the devs about the purpose of Research Notes. Were they meant to use up Trading Post junk? Inventory junk? Were they supposed to encourage crafting? Did they really want people clicking on stuff ten thousand times? Did we REALLY need a bajillionth currency in the game??

The potion thing does appear to be a nerf. Didn't even the minor ones give 5 per recipe? They nerf and nerf the things we can craft and salvage for Research Notes -- it's almost like they don't want us to have them. Am getting fed up.
