  1. yup savage =).. altho yeah, i didnt mention the 24man raids that happen during a savage tier's mid-life cycle, i mainly listed what each of the two extremes (raiders and super-casuals, savage and story) the PvE playerbase of FF14 usually look forward to. but yeah going back, if we didnt get Living World Seasons eps in gw2 (which is how or story gets expanded in between expansions) there'd be a lot of complaining too. we rarely get new fractals (new 1 coming soon yeah?), new raids, new spvp maps, new wvw whatevers..... if no LWS, then we're only left with balance patches and bulky gemstore outfits that make you look like an oilrig at night....
  2. Then they should play sp rpgs. Living story would be cool in an indie sp rpg but not a triple A MMO. real example: FF14 is a sub-based triple-A MMORPG and it gets story updates (similar to our living world where it continues the story of the current expansion and eventually prepares you for the next expansion) on every major patch in between expansions (usually around every 3ish months, with a new raid wing every 6ish months) EDIT: story content belongs, and has been in most/many modern MMORPGs, because it's what many players want (alongside other PvE content ofcourse, such as raids, instanced dungeons, mini-games etc. etc.)
  3. Nah. An in house DPS meter can be hard-coded to give out just the account user's DPS/Heals and no one else's. Unlike the 3rd party ones that give out the entire party's DPS output from raw server data. It's not all or nothing. Dont know why it hasn't been done. There's the training grounds. Are you trying to promote the idea to ANet ? Because it sounds like it. Sure, why not? Anet, just like any other business is profit oriented. If they produce a product I like and want, I will buy it. So getting it for free is worse then either liking it and buying or not be able to use it at all?i believe everyone here wants it for free (if they would ever implement a built-in DPS meter) but some just wont mind paying as long as it's good quality. i do really hope on the very very unlikely chance that Anet would give us a DPS meter, and it's as bad as the build/equipment templates, that ArcDPS wouldn't go away (or stop development) and instead continue as a third party alternative to it.
  4. Mike O' Brien's new game doesn't seem especially competitive. Of course, it's still early. True but I think its because he gave up on the competitive scene for the time. I doubt he has the resources to risk making a game like that considering a good majority of gamers hate that kind of play and want PvE only. There is an audience for competitive mmo-rpgs but its not as vast as the PvE crowd so of course he would make the first game, a PvE centered game. Its just good business so you can reel in the more likely to spend crowd (Most whales are only interested in PvP games, if they can buy power directly.) Name a single pvp only MMORPG that is not a niche game. The only successful non niche MMORPGs with pvp usually have working and far larger pve componenets and a majority of their player base plays there. I really don't get where people get this idea that pvp is in such high demand. There is no evidence to support this in the MMORPG genre.yeah even New World (Amazon Games) kinda rolled backed on their PvP and went more PvE oriented. there's just more PvE content/demand in MMORPGs. Even Crimson Desert (the announced sequel/successor to Black Desert Online, not the BDO private server) will have a chunky PvE portion too. people who want PvP already satisfy themselves in MOBAS, BRs and Competitive/Team Shooters.
  5. if you have a 2nd screen/monitor:have resource monitor or task manager open (or any hardware monitoring app).. i would look/monitor for RAM/Memory Consumption, Swap Usage, CPU/GPU temperatures and CPU Usage while playing the game. to me, it sounds like your system is running out of resources while playing and thus, freezing/hanging. if you can monitor your system resources, you can find out if it's gw2 or any other application/service/malware?/random_thing_running_on_the_background using up system resources and attempt to troubleshoot from thereon if you think it's your HDD (i doubt) try defragmenting your drive?
  6. Oh, I’m not concerned, I just wanna use this character instead of making a new one (silly I know) You can join their story instance no problem aslong as its not the same story step your on and you accept credit, you will not be affected in anyway. That I know, I’m wondering if I can join their quest outside an instance and also have the tracker there OP, not really sure i get you clear but as what others are saying: you both have to be in the same place at the same time,if it's an open world thing: both of you have to be on the same zone/map to experience it together.if it's an instanced story or dungeon/fractal/etc.: both of you have to be in it to experience it together. if it's your personal story, you progress - your friend doesn't ||| if it's their personal story, your friend progresses - you don't.
  7. if you use any addons, try disabling/uninstalling them first and try again. if it's ArcDPS download the new update for it.
  8. However, I think that you are also onto something. In my experience the game did not use to be this "quiet" at all. To me that is more of a recent development and I would assume that it is tied to the kind of development that the game gets. More of more of the game has been designed in a direction of "playing alone together" (or simply playing alone) and one result of that is activity in things like chats. This was a game that initially was built to be highly social and now quite alot of aspects of it is outright antisocial or circumvent the needs of socialization. I disagree. I think the prevalence of third-party voice chat has all but neutered in-game chat. People didn't have these options 7-8 years ago. That has nothing to do with any perception of the kind of development that the game gets.this is also one of the things i noticed. pre-discord era (teamspeak and mumble days), more people talked in-game, in most online games i played. when discord rose to popularity, in-game chat declined sadly. i don't mind having a discord, and it was really helpful for call-outs during hard content (like when doing savage raids in ff14) but outside of those uses i still prefer to "talk" in-game by typing
  9. ArcDPS is actually pretty stable (not for all users though), when it does work for you... as of this writing, it's current borked by the new patch and yeah the arcdps dev has a life too so you cant expect it to be updated the second the patch hits but it does usually get updated relatively quick. though im with you on that i'd love a UI option to to display DPS and have it's own menu hidden away somewhere where you can review the whole encounter/combat history. may or may not need an option to "hide your stats/opt-out from party/raid/public parse" so other people would not whine about having their dps checked.
  10. this. i wish all the outfits/armours with shiny/glowing bits could be turned off by dyeing the 4th channel as Black/Shadow Abyss. -or- (imo) just not have any shiny bits at all if it looks like it doesn't need it.
  11. i would've been happy with just this along with the other "meh" changes. lol but yeah no change is better than nerfing our PvE damage
  12. a graphics engine update (like other games going from UE3 to UE4) alone wont improve the "graphics" without new assets/files to go along with it (new hi-res/HD textures, new high poly-count models, maps being retouched a lil bit for the new textures, etc.) - while it's something i'd really want for the game, it's also something i personally do not need. ---- this all translates to much more work that you think, they probably know and realise that the graphics are ageing a bit but it's too low on GW2's priority if it exists at all. what we do however need is better multi-core support and more gpu utilization (game is too CPU heavy) ---- this is something the d912pxy mod kinda fixes, if you have the hardware for it (you'll gain tons of FPS improvements compared to not having it, again, if you have the right hardware) Well the Dx9proxy does also have some new asserts partial because there was no way around it I think especially the water shader broke with dx12 , so they have their own. In theory you could make your own texture pack ^^. Dx912pxy real advantage is it running smoother because of multi threading but it has a lot of overhead because it is a proxy you have basically all textures and shaders twice in the memory . You have some performance lose because you making a dll call after dll and possible ArcDPS is in between which is another dll call on top of that you have 2 garbage collectors running instead of 1 and if it would be me I also would change in an upgrade matrix transformations with AvX2 code support(by the way AvX2 support is mandatory for win 10 systems because Dx12 us it internally) With this you would have another 20-30% more performance available if you support dx12 directly with gw2 then with the Dx912pxy. I think some people have the wrong impression what needs to change when you upgrade Gw2 from dx9 to dx12 wait you mainly change is the dll calls from the dx9 api to the api from dx12 . Yes there is also some setup work because you have more control over the grapic card and you need to transform you shaders I think this would take 2-3 people who know what they are doing 4-6 months. I don't know how this will end at the moment the content updates become more and more slower in Gw 2 on one hand and on the other we have Arena.NET training their developers in the UE4 engine.yeah it doesn't address the issue completely but it does help somewhat. a native dx12 gw2 would be the dream. they can even keep dx9 as a legacy mode for those who don't have the hardware to utilise dx12 or not running windows 10/7(just like how WoW had dx11 &dx12 now -and- how FF14 had dx9 & dx11)
  13. things i'd love to see soon/someday: shared inventory discountstrider's armour setexo-mounts version for skyscale, beetle, and warclawequipment storage tab discountlava lounge/noble's folly permanent passshrine guardian mount skin
  14. Well we haven't tried it here. Also it will only be in a special instance. Players can still play in non pk maps. I also came from a game where pk is the way. :3 was fun hunting each other at certain times Well, it’s not gonna happen here. Then go play that game where “pk is the way”. :3 one can dream . It’s a waste of a dream, especially dreaming on the forums when we’ve been told no multiple times already over the past 8 years. You should go take advantage of other games where you can farm pve players that don’t want to do pvp stuff. No. :3 I choose what I want to dream of. People just don't have to agree with it. But maybe others would like it too.you might want to try and play Archeage, or go back to it if you were already playing it before. you can definitely achieve your dream in that game :)
  15. Steam does this automatically if you try to buy a bundle (with/without discounts) and you already own part of it, Steam will automatically less that to the total cost all while maintaining the bundled pricing. like what @Friday.7864 said though, you can probably solve this with a support ticket, but it would also be really nice if we all didn't have to.
  16. a graphics engine update (like other games going from UE3 to UE4)And again just to point this out there are literally engine developer tutorials and tools on how to convert to UE4 from UE3. GW2 uses a custom Anet built engine, its nowhere near a similar situation and it is impossible to compare.yup im not comparing at all... im just saying to the OP that creating a new engine for the game to run under will look mostly the same unless they make/update/refresh the assets to match it's new potential. again, just wanted to point out that GW2/games/things wont magically look way prettier by just "converting to a new engine" and just re-using all the assets as-is
  17. but if you delete stealth and evades.. will it still be the thief described in: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Thief ? as a PvE-only person, imo to begin with, what thief really needs is to have initiative costs looked at. then the dps on least used weapons (like sword for PvE) so they'll be more viable. outside of stacking stealth, we don't have much group utility or buffs to offer and the ones we can share, other classes/specs already do and do it better, so just a small DPS increase across the board for us is what's needed imo. and of course keep PvE changes away from WvW/PvP and vice-versa
  18. a graphics engine update (like other games going from UE3 to UE4) alone wont improve the "graphics" without new assets/files to go along with it (new hi-res/HD textures, new high poly-count models, maps being retouched a lil bit for the new textures, etc.) - while it's something i'd really want for the game, it's also something i personally do not need. ---- this all translates to much more work that you think, they probably know and realise that the graphics are ageing a bit but it's too low on GW2's priority if it exists at all. what we do however need is better multi-core support and more gpu utilization (game is too CPU heavy) ---- this is something the d912pxy mod kinda fixes, if you have the hardware for it (you'll gain tons of FPS improvements compared to not having it, again, if you have the right hardware)
  19. imo, it's the medium armour frustration in general... everything is a trench coat or has a buttcape. light armour and/or heavy armour classes may or may not have better options (depending on your taste) as for a body suit i don't play char, but try the Elegy Set see if it works or the strider's set (gemstore) ... there maybe more but that's what i could recall for now
  20. this is definitely one thing, i remember playing ragnarok online (at it's heyday) and it's definitely one of the things people did, since there was no pressure (either from the game or the community) to do things fast/immediately/rush (well, aside from hitting max level) people had time to sit down in town and chat with randoms in GW2 it's just not that kinda game... there's always something that's pushing you to do something (like dailies... metas... etc.) of course you could stop that and do your own thing but not everyone will be like you unlike in other games
  21. this basically. translation is not free. especially if you want fully voiced everything. other popular languages like Dutch/Russian/Hindi/Polish/Japanese/Vietnamese/etc. aren't offered too. an MMORPG or any game for that matter has to choose which languages it would support with it's budget (current and past). you could argue "but the Chinese version of GW2 is translated" there, but those translations are funded and handled by their local publisher. so unless Brazil gets a local publisher for GW2 and releases a data centre for that region, that chances are very very very low. with the Anet team's size and budget they'd prioritise resources into things that would apply to all of their clients/players. not saying it's impossible, just that it's very unlikely to happen
  22. have recently come back to the game to finally resume the story and this is what i felt as well (well i did login each time a new episode was released just to get each for free) finished ep1 and got to ep2 and kinda got bored and just went back to doing meta events on the older maps that i miss doing.
  23. this isn't much of an issue (the obsoletion/phasing-out of the platform).. iirc, FFXIV did an upgrade thing when it dropped ps3 (free upgrade to ps4) from it's platforms and just kept ps4+pc cross-multiplayer... and if it (FFXIV) will not be replaced by a newer FF mmorpg in the next 6 or so years, it might do the same and drop ps4 for the ps5 and offer ps4 users a free upgrade the one problem i always see is that ppl compare FFXIV to show it's possible but fail to see why its so, GW2 was never made for console use and it will take a huge overhaul to do so while FFXIV is specifically made for console/pc play.i only mentioned FFXIV's way of upgrading because the previous person mentioned "Why limit the game is to a platform that will replaced in a couple of years?" GW2 can be made for the console (not with the current PS4 though with the engine we're using right now and with Anet being busy with the current saga + upcoming expansion) and the slow GCD in FFXIV isn't a reason why that game can do cross play (this is the argument of many: slow gcd so controller people/console can be on par with keyboard mouse users/pc). you can have a faster GCD and the hybrid action/tab combat of GW2 in the next gen consoles... control scheme isn't an issue too since you can always just require the user to buy a keyboard and mouse if Anet would be lazy to implement proper controller support (though if you're porting to console, then why not do it anyway?) as for hardware, the specs of the upcoming PS5 and it's Xbox counterpart is probably on par or even way better than many of gw2's current users. that said, you are right that it will take a huge overhaul mainly because they need to write a new engine for PS5/Xbox's SDK and APIs .... so a console port, if ever, wont be seen atleast until 3 to 4 years from now. on the pc side of things unless they would drop directx9 in favour of directx12, there wouldn't be a need to overhaul the current client, they just need to add in new code on the networking side of things so the PC clients and the servers can "talk" to the console clients (how huge this would be would depend on how they code things)
  24. feels like path of exile leagues or diablo 3 seasons. i don't mind your idea/concept but i doubt many people would want to use this feature on the main/live servers. it has to have more purpose for existing. if they open a PTR/PTS where you can test an upcoming update/feature/content/story patch, this is viable:create a character in the test server > play > when updates get merged into the main servers, your test server chara will get merged into the main servers > pts/ptr will close until the next "testing season" ---> just like how Path of Exile does it.... doesnt need to be a 1-79 thing... can be a whole "season" for testing sorta thing but yeah i don't think we have a patch test realm/server so im not sure something like this could happen. (edit: also i know and read that you said that only until it reaches lvl 80 will these characters be merged with your other characters in your initial post)
