Please, create a proper fight for Zhaithan !

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

When GW2 vanilla was out, many of people (and me) was disappointing with the fight of Zhaitan, actually he is the only Elder Dragon to not be defeated by us, the players. But with the total reworked of the season 1, I think it might be good for the devs to create a proper fight with Zhaithan. It could be placed after the fight in the air and take place in the Ruined City of Arah, so you will have no others map to create and use this map. Maybe it could be like an escort to the dragon or something like that and have a proper kill.

If you like this idea, then like the post and comment to show the devs that we want it.

I'm sorry if there already was a subject like this.

Yes, the fight with Zhaitan needs some revisions:

1- Let the player fire the MEGA-LIT cannon at him instead of having it be automatic.

2- Make the "press 1 to win" phase on the cannons at the end more dangerous. If this is the only method we get to bring hm down, at least make it more interesting and not a snorefest.

3- After he falls to the ground, at least add an epilogue of the player stomping him like with Shadow of the Dragon and Modremoth, to drive home that we're the Dragon Slayer.

4- If possible, add a (brief) ground fight in Arah like in Claw Island and Tequatl.

5- Maybe allow us to physically collect his tail for the Priory as a sort of nod to continuity?

Also, for some reason Zhaitan is also strangely missing any chatter entirely in Dragon's End, even though his minions were masters of talking kitten to the player all through the campaign. This is especially noticeable in Harvest Temple, so it'd be nice if they could fix that, too.

A new map set in Orr for a future story would be cool. Maybe Zhaitan’s corpse fell there (or was moved there for some reason, maybe by Unchained or sylvari/pact folks), and it’s called something along the lines of “Dragon’s Rest.” Could give us another look at Orr post-reclamation by the sylvari, and perhaps the devs could find an excuse for residual death magic to partially reanimate Zhaitan’s mindless body as a meta event? New content that gives us what we missed out on originally.

I’m reaching, but it could tie into the Risen in Raisu Palace somehow.

I would like to see something like Dragonstorm that counts for story completion at the end. The solo final mission is kind of a slog and it couldn't hurt to sneak organic group play in there as an introduction to it for someone who just beat the personal story. Optionally, of course.

Something like the old Arah story mode I guess, but with the timer-based "draw people in organically" of Dragonstorm.

Just because many (a few hundres) would like to see more ... doesnt't mean they just spend resources on this - when there is a lot of other stuff to do that is more important. A lot more people are happy with how the things are now. And the more important thign always had been - for me - the cleansing of orr with Trahearne. Such a great mission and sound and directing.

You don't need to kill every dragon personally. And it is more important to introduce the characters well. S1 in fact will have a big challenge here: Not focusing on battles only. But on the dialogues after the final battle. (Afaik Taimi only got introduced in the last part ... that I did not play back then. There we need all the dialoges - even after the final mission.)

Core personal story had all the the important stuff - most important: The last dialogues after returning to fort Trinity. The onyl problem we still have is that the last chapter was the story mode of the dungeon. They made it solo so you can solo the story. (Cause previous parts were soloable as well.) Some people might miss the Destiny's Edge story - not understanding about the argument Logan and Rytlock hat. (I only saw this in videos. Have not yet managed to get myself to play the story mode of the older dungeons ha ha.)

Also keep in mind that Zhaitan had been weakened a lot through the previous attacks at his champions (Mouth, Eye and stuff)  in the story. Well told and not as rushed as the later dragons where it felt like the writing was a lot worse and they just wanted to create a fight. It isn't always about fights only though.

I believe all of the dragons have unique fights.

Kralk: go inside his brain and kill facets

Mordremoth: go inside his brain and kill your friends and his avatar

Zaitan: air battle

Jormag and primordus: get them to fight each other(or kill champions around the same time) (this fight was copied and pasted into a faze of the ecovald meta),

Each have frustrating aspects.

Most of them you don't even fight the Dragon himself

Well Kralkatorrik you go into its body to fight since I dont think dragons got their heart in the brain.

Other then that a good list.

Actually I always thought that you need two fights to kill a dragon

Mordremoth : into the dream and the Meta.

Kralkatorrik : kill his heart and the Meta.

Jormag/Primordius : Kill the champions/ they killed eachothers

Soo Won : the Meta and then kill her.

Only Zhaitan have one fight and 0 meta, when we could have both.

Updating Zhaitan would be particularly valuable *before* the Steam release, showing newcomers a more realistic view of how amazing and epic GW2 boss encounters can be, and more likely guaranteeing continued play by said players.

When I first bought this game (after also being a long-time GW1 player) I saw this:

Though the trailer was an unexpected style, it previewed to me what I thought was going to be an encounter that was radically... Better. The setting was outstanding and looked legendary. Improving the encounter, and maybe even the rewards (to, say, at least an exotic--because you just killed the first freaking elder dragon) would keep newcomers playing longer and better reflect the epic encounters that GW2 has to offer in future gameplay. I also strongly believe it would show a massive return to old content by veterans, be it for the gameplay experience, reward, or both.

As it stands, I know many a player that has left the game after Zhaitan because it was just... A letdown, especially compared to the rest of the amazing content ANet has released that has kept me playing for ten years.

I was always disappointed that we fought and defeated him directly as we did. Eldritch horrors of a scope as vast and alien as elder dragons were originally hinted to be should never be something you kill with a big gun or guns. They should be defeated by preventing their full awakening, by defeating their champions bent on waking them, so that they can drift back into their ages long slumber. Defeating an elder being like this should be about delaying the inevitable moment when they roar their presence into the world signalling the end of an age.

I would agree that Zhaitan needs an update. And perhaps a strike mission/cm ;).

The biggest issues is that Zhaitan needs the ability to win the fight. Its the final boss of the core game, while it doesnt need to be super challenging, it needs to be able to win. A really soft DPS check so the airship or all its guns can be destroyed (and a continue button to reset the fight) would help it. Plus having mechanics that use the AoE indicators seen in future fights, (again not tough mechanics).

It doesnt need to be super tough, you just need the ability to fail.

I also think there should be strikes/cms added to pretty much all major story beats in the game, this way players are introduced and constantly reinforced on the strike/cm idea.

Were getting a strike for LS1, then the next strike you get is in 2 expansions and 3 LW seasons later, a huge gap.

We should have a Strike for Zhaitan fight, LWS1 finale, LSW2 (mord's dragon minion?), HoT finale, LWS3 caudacus fight? or defending the egg? or draconis mons finale?, PoF finale, and LS4 kralk fight. Doing this will better reinforce the 'endgame' of gw2 earlier and get more people into endgame content.
