How will voice program usage (teamspeak for example) look like to guildless people in WvW?

Arctisavange.7261Arctisavange.7261 Member ✭✭✭

So with the servers being removed and people who arent in guilds then can someone explain that how will those people suppose to manage to help public raids due to servers individual teamspeak becoming obsolete?
As someone who has been playing this game since day 1 and has been a public commander for many years then this is quite a concern to me. I myself have allways been attached to the community in my server rather then bind myself to a single guild. Aside from being forced to join a guild to not loose my community i have the other option of being a drifter who goes from matchups to matchups with new random people. So if id choose that second option then how am i suppose to solve the issue of communicating with random people via voice chat such as teamspeak which is a must have for anyone doing large scale organized fights in WvW?

I hope they add a VOIP option for alliances

  • Seems very shady. It looks very disastrous for people not belonging to a guild.

I don't understand what the question you are putting forward is, but I am assuming you are afraid guildless people don't have access to the voice comms that a guild uses. Well access rights can simply be open to them by the guild, the only problem is where the guuld to guildless ratio is too high which will more likely lead to closed raids and exclusivity.

Guilds can get a teamspeak server easy. Guildless people cant due to servers being removed amongst with making servers teamspeak worthless.

To make it easier as an example: im a pug, i play on X server atm, i visit X servers teamspeak all the time cause its open to everyone located in my X server. New changes kick in, i cant use X servers teamspeak anymore due to worlds being deleted. What am i suppose to do now?

Indeed. Discord makes it very easy for anyone to setup a channel. And there's all sorts of advantages (with the main disadvantage being a wonky client for some people and some issues for /tts users). ANet has said they plan to update the API, so authentication on a per 'Season' basis is likely going to be as easy as authentication is now. Unaffiliated players might have to request authentication slightly more often.

In short, for voice, I don't think the situation is all that different now for many of us, who have to figure out how to accommodate our linked partners.

Hype is the path to the dark side. Hype leads to unfulfilled expectations. Disappointment leads to anger. Anger leads to disgust. Disgust leads to "oh, new shinies! I'm back!"

Honestly i feel greatly that the voice chat issue will have to be solved between players only cause anet definetly wouldnt be looking into it.
Discord is PC consuming af and teamspeak is still far more popular in GW2 compared to discord.

    ^^^Mostly this.

The WvW "pride/identity" notion will shift from being server-based to being alliance-based, and that will likely be definitional to the concept of "community" thereafter; similarly, VOIP will follow in suit. Granted there will be more alliances than there currently are servers, but in the WvW context, that may actually promote more diversity of choice and experience in the long run.

    Time will tell. :)

Many pugs I've seen never join voice Comms, unless they make the effort to join the Discord server, which are like the old community sites we had.

It shouldn't be a problem, since most servers should at least have a Discord, but you still have teamspeak servers running, which can still be used among the same group of players in the new alliances. It shouldn't be too different to how it is now, since most alliances, will likely have the same players, wanting to play together in the same alliance.

  • I'm guessing most alliances will have a pugmander too, at least they should after the chaos simmers down in the beginning.

I like Discord, hate Teamspeak, because one hides, while the other shows your IP. Also it's easy to create & join a Discord server.

a server cannot survive without one. =)

been to t1 and to last tier and a good pugmander makes a difference.

  • server ts will convert into alliance ts more likely. either way alliances will have a ts that can invite people over. they did the same with links (api helped too and hope will help again)

Most servers will have alliance TS (old server ts).

Discord, a free app, can also get API verification and is pretty easy to use. Less problems than with teamspeak (just people need to hotkey and turn all the BLIMBLOM sounds off again, which seems pretty hard for lot of people).

I guess if someone is dedicated enough, he can also make discord that accepts people from all alliances and sorts their available channels by their submitted API key which seems pretty simple.

Imagine people from all servers using same discord, serverwide communication (or spying) has never been easier. Lul.

Hoping people wont make it too complicated (because people are selfish, "MUH ADMIN RIGHTS")and start using 5 different teamspeaks for different commanders on same server.

Edit: Or same teamspeak, I guess.

  • Heya Yeah as @Threather.9354 Mentioned. i have been Setting up the Vabbi/Underworld discord and Zyphex normaly sorted out the permissions.

Been setting it up and i am quite please with the Result

It's for me easy to mentain and as Riba Mentioned I have verfication trough api based on an Program in C#. (Making an new one with Django/python program.)

altough i am reworking soon the bot since the Alliance will come into place. (Whenever the new api will get released i am going to start work on it with an group of people.)

Acording teamspeak in my opinion its outdated and has better alternative as Discord (also concidering their api)

I could also provide screenshots how i setted it up.

He's been making posts like this up and down several other threads, "Anet hates solo players who don't want to join guilds or talk to anyone or play with anyone except people on their current servers". It's a broken record.

Discord is also used by communities, via text chat outside the game too. Who doesn't have Discord, unless they refuse to use it, to keep up with things happening in their community.

I even see pugs in chat, asking why do we still use TS, when there is Discord.

YMMV, but for me, Discord crashes more often, causes more problems with my system, and the sound quality is inferior to TS.

Also there is no channel chat, which is a huge PITA when you have to be muted but want to respond to the other people in the channel.

  • What servers are we actualy talking about where discord has replaced ts? And by that question im asking what servers use discord for commanding over teamspeak?
Im in EU SFR where we have discord but absolutely nobody uses it for commanding for planty of reasons so im bit puzzled where its actualy popular.

Underworld and vabbi. Basically new servers because it is easier to setup/join, has better quality and its practically free. Even Desolation had some issues in the past with their teamspeak admins so they were considering transition to discord but discord was still at development stage so it still had fair amount of issues back then.

Servers like Desolation, SFR and FSP do have their own community discords so their transition to discord wont be very hard if some of them end up with alliance that uses Discord instead of old teamspeak servers.

    Main issues with discord is:

    • it makes stupid blim blom sounds everytime someone joins channel and it is practically impossible to tell if your mic is muted or not from the mic mute sound. Meaning you have to turn all those sounds off. Also the kitten popup notifications when someone types something needs to be turned off if you dont like them...
    • People who join it first time typically have open mic because they haven't setup the settings yet.
    • It is little cartoony and the vocal channels are not highlighted as much as chat channels unlike in teamspeak. But overall this is good because teamspeak way of doing it makes written communication pretty awkward whereas it is easy to do both on discord.

Better sound quality, mobile accessiblity, usability on browser (but no recommended), easier joining (click the + button, no need to bookmark the server) and the fact that it is capable replacing server browser forums are all worth the 2-5 minute setting setup that every user has to do (which is actually part of teamspeak as well).
Also all new games use discord to communicate. Most likely your favorite streamer also has discord where you can communicate with other same streamer fans.
Want to look for PUBG group on PUBG discord server while listening to commander on your server discord server? Possible
Want to check what your guild is talking on other discord server chat? Possible
Want to check whats going on other servers voice chats, are they online? Possible.
Want to send your friend message while theyre offline/online on discord? Possible
Want to ask if theres good fights without distracting voice comm channel? Possible
Want to make/check a channel where commanders announce when they tag up so you dont have to be online always? Possible
Now these things are up to certain extent possible on teamspeak as well if you make multiple identities so you dont get muted when you join etc etc... But it is pretty awkward with multiple tabs, bookmarks, identities, mic disabling and everything

Discord is what younger gamers prefer because all streamers and new games use it to communicate and setup groups. So it is capable of replacing things like Skype, Twitter announcements when streamer starts, internet forums etc at the same time. Also it has better quality. Teamspeak is what oldies are used to.

And their is no commander functionality on teamspeak only an picture of an commander tag wich the teamspeak server uploads from an serveradmin.

And ofc People think like okay TS is better yeah it's old so let's stick to it. The amount of verified ppl doesn't lie on vabbi discord: 650

I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend, but do you even know what "commander comms" is? It's not just giving someone a "role," or "title" (if you will).

Commander comms is just what we call it in GW2. It's basically a function in TS that allows people to talk in more than one channel at the same time. The people usually given this capability in server-wide TS are people that are commanders. It allows them to be in the channel, and talk, with the squad they are leading AND another channel that the commanders from the other BL's (or the same BL) are in so that they can coordinate attacks or defenses.

Discord does NOT have the capability to talk in 2 or more channels at the same time. Until it does there will be no mass exodus to it.

TS definitely (not defiantly) has better quality for me, hands down. Cutouts and overall static are far more prevalent on discord for me than on TS. I've been using both for years, and that hasn't changed.

Also the lack of channel chat is very aggravating for someone who frequently has to mute themselves for various reasons but doesn't want to spam some general chat channel with a one-sided conversation that is just responses to what people are saying in channel. That is a major issue for me.

Yeah, I'll go ahead and throw this out there.....just because something is new and shiny and oh "IT'S FREE EVERYBODY," doesn't make it better. Discord is a social app that has voice capability, which honestly isn't that great. TeamSpeak is a voice program, which means that's what they do......voice.....that's it. If you think facebook with voice is gonna be better than TeamSpeak for actual voice comms then you "younguns" go ahead and keep using discord, while those of us that have wisdom stick with an actual voice comm program, and proceed to wipe the maps of WvW with your stubborn-know it all-I know better attitudes, because you have to type in team chat to talk to a commander in another BL for help.

  • Odinens.5920Odinens.5920 Member ✭✭✭

While I'm at it, why don't you go ahead and poll those WvW streamers. Tell me how many of them are using discord for the squad you're watching them play in, and how many of them are in TS.

Discord is also used by communities, via text chat outside the game too. Who doesn't have Discord, unless they refuse to use it, to keep up with things happening in their community.

THIS is what Discord is good for.

I even see pugs in chat, asking why do we still use TS, when there is Discord.

THIS is because people don't seem to have a clue there's a difference.

  • i think teamspeaks will work the same like they do now. today a single player needs to ask for registration on a server teamspeak. this teamspeak is hosted by someone from server community. in the future single players will also need to register on teamspeaks. just it will be hosted by someone from the alliance. since the alliance has interest to reach all players they will offer teamspeaks. it can be some guilds make it mandatory to join them as they want to play competitive and keep the same players in the alliance on match change to avoid that randoms get shuffled each new matchup and need to be introduced to an alliance game behaviour all the time.

so i think everything will be available, noone will have an disadvantage. people will be more in a situation to seek for an alliance which shares the players mentality and gaming ambition.

And there is only one thing we say to Death: 'not today'.
