  1. if it's not a moba, battle-royale, or team-based competitive type of game then PvP of any kind is usually a niche audience especially for mmorpgs. for modern mmos, usually PvE or co-operative play is the more popular game mode. all the big names out there (FFXIV, WOW, ESO) know this and have it as their primary focus and GW2 is no different -- because it's what earns more money.
  2. DRMs will never replace fractals, not unless they do something to match rewards and the gold you earn from doing T4s. in fact DRMs really suck for rewards... i just mentioned DRMs to the OP since they wanted single player content that could also work for groups, which DRMs already provide
  3. LOL yeah, with the bladed and the bounty hunter sets (HoT ~ PoF) im not very optimistic about the ingame armour they plan to include at the expansion's launch. elonian/spearmarshal (PoF) was nice and warbeast (PoF) looked nice on light classes but that's about it in my opinion, the rest of the sets on HoT/PoF launch were unremarkable or ugly. but yeah maybe they might give us really good canthan inspired (asian) and kurzick/luxon style armour sets so im not completely 100% negative about it lol
  4. i think DRMs do a good job for single player content that scales up to 5 people. they just need to rebrand it to another name in EoD and change the setting to a dungeon-like experience instead of openworld and maybe tweak the rewards system or something but the core foundation should already be present right now in-game (DRMs)
  5. you can try setting Shadows to "Low or None" and Character Model Quantity to "Lowest" just those two. if you've got decent hardware with atleast rx580 or 1060 tier graphics, then everything else can be maxed at 1080p with just those two mentioned settings at Lowest and the game should run pretty much at 60fps consistently except for zerg-y WvW or PvE, 80~100+ people where the game struggles a lot also, recommend you to join those discords like VKx, Lutris, GamingOnLinux etc. as they may be able to help you with your keyboard locale issue :) and if you hang out in the VKx discord or something there's also other people doing the same as you (compiling their own linux kernel and such), i wouldn't call them crazy though lol more like someone who wants the bleeding edge newest stuff as soon as possible to bother doing that. lastly! if you're considering GW2 addons, like DPS meters or TACO, there are mixed results here for different people, some crashy some stable some just don't load at all, personally i only use ardDPS and i get rare crashes here and there when changing maps, still lazy to enable logging and check if it's a dxvk related issue (since it's a d3d9 dll hook) or if it's fsync or futex2 related, etc.
  6. 1) you can use any winebuild you want, you can even use steam's proton (but no reason to really) and there isnt much difference (performance, in fact you might not even notice a difference assuming you use fsync on all builds you want to try) between all of them more or less. ArmoredVehicle's package is just for convenience for the most part and to help non-technically inclined users on linux (like those who freshly migrated from windows) have a one-click package without much fiddling such as setting up wine manually. once GW2-Steam (in the far far future) comes out it would more or less do the same thing as AV's package if you install via Steamplay/Proton personally, i compile my own wine build with tkg and staging patchsets which also allows me to use futex2 / fsync2 which is sort of "faster" in some cases vs esync/fsync. there's also development on WINESYNC or FASTSYNC which is meant to be an alternative to futex2/fsync/esync but it's still in the early stages and isnt faster than any. 2) not much experience with that since i only deal with standard us layout. can't help with your rebind everything issue, sorry. if you want performance gains (very minimal) you can try installing gamemode and lib32-gamemode + install/build a custom kernel like xanmod or linux-zen
  7. afaik this setting only affects call outs your character makes when you get buffs/debuffs or use certain profession skill like marking a target as deadeye or using mantras or ranger commands and shout skills -and- the shouts and command type skills other players use like if there are other rangers or tempests near you. objects like the super adv fun box don't count as that i believe agreed. visual and audible noise from other players or objects should be something you can turn off at your discretion
  8. im pretty sure "model quality" setting doesnt affect NPCs (they dont turn into basic models) but you're right with the "model limit" setting though and pretty often includes the boss (unless it's super huge like claw or drakkar) for npcs that go invisible when player population suddenly spikes in one place like boss fights during metas if not for a setting for npcs, maybe atleast give them priority over players to not turn invisible NPC→party or subgroup→squad→everything else
  9. there is also the fact that many things are account bound like masteries (mounts, gliders, autoloot) and all your currencies earned (wallet, karma, gold, etc.) so starting "fresh" or a reroll in that context (as you were able to search) is never fully possible with GW2 unless you create a new account
  10. all servers are merged and only differ by region (NA/EU) when it comes to PvP and PvE/Openworld. but that's only with regards to "seeing each other" or being together in once instance/zone. --- you can actually join an EU guild for example and just chat with them but be unable to group up or see them in pve/pvp/wvw. what do you mean by "reroll" project? like a fresh start server? if so, then no, gw2 has never had one such thing (partly because of the megaserver thing as mentioned so it's pointless since everyone plays on the same "server" and also because there's no demand for such a thing---- maybe in the far future if we ever get a GW2 Classic just like WoW lol)
  11. this. with a decently put together build, you can solo most of the DRMs even with all 3 challenges turned on. the only one i can think of where you'd probably not be able achieve the timer is with snowden and it's super short challenge timer + thunderhead keep if you're a bit slow on the trashmob cleanup after the morale events. solo-ing is actually faster in some cases and mobs are scaled to 1 player so they aren't super sponge-y/tanky compared to a full group.
  12. in the event that this would happen to me, and out of options from both amazon and arenanet support, my last action probably would be to use the key on an alt account as Inculpatus cedo suggests and just gift myself all the gemstore stuff that's giftable with the free gems that come with it. (buy gift stuff from alt account to main account) with that, as mentioned above, you also have an alt account to acquire login stuff and help fund your main
  13. you can try these solutions: if you're running from a script make sure you have this line in itexport WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d9=n,b" if running from command line add it to the beginning of your wine launch command as an env varWINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d9=n,b" WINEPREFIX=/path/to/prefix wine64 /path/to/gw2-64.exe arcdps loads for me but can crash upon map change on wine 6.5 (very rarely though and most likely when there's a lot of entities being loaded in)
  14. this usually works, i have a key bound to it when clicking manually doesn't work but in the case of @Xeno.1298 where 100 interactables were spawned near the chest it still becomes a chore/annoying when you could've just looted and moved on and it just compounds and gets worse if those 100 or so were done on every chest.
  15. try to find one that hasnt started yet and just gathering people. bounty trains in pof usually do all bounties for a certain zone or all bounties for all pof zones. if you arrive just before they start, you'll eventually get bounties you need.
  16. that's when the said p2w game is pve-focused... on a pvp-focused/openworld pvp game, the pay-to-win is three-folds more toxic (super not fun) in comparison even if you try engaging in the p2w yourself - like as long as the other person has spent more money than you, they're more likely to one shot you before you can even try defending yourself out in the open world and they just blaze past you like you were the ambient/grey-tier creatures in GW2 lol.
  17. the OP has 4 stars next to their arenanet id which indicates that yes, they've been a pretty active forum goer -- so i assume it's the former, they're just trolling lol Ive seen a discussion today in the LA map chat, with many different opinions.my bad then, sorry for assuming! :)
  18. all of this is just because you find it boring. just like how some people find it interesting. if it was boring to every MMORPG player, then FF14 for example wouldn't even add it or consider it when they remade the game into a Realm Reborn. ESO wouldn't have it and many other games as well. not trying to force you to like it though just so we're clear -- just giving you a reason why people who like housing, like housing there's no changing that just like there's no changing you who thinks it's pointless. i even said it on my post:
  19. mostly because you need to be hopping multiple guilds in order to visit guild halls and you can't even visit as a guest without someone from the guild grouped with you and you have to enter from the openworld entrance. in popular mmorpgs with housing like FF14 (where housing is very high on demand btw, with people fighting over the limited land there -- some even camping for hours when a plot goes up for sale just to snag the buy first) there are community boards outside the housing district which lists houses in that district people have opened to public that you can potentially visit -- there's nothing like that for GW2 guild halls... you can't even advertise your guild hall in-game you have to go to the forums and make an attractive album or video of your guild hall which is just too much effort, adding the requirement to actually join a guild just for visiting, then yes no one would go around visiting different guild halls because it's too much trouble. another reason is that guild halls are too huge, they don't feel "personal" and for a single person/solo guild, building up your guild hall to become your "house" is too expensive and too time consuming (talking months maybe less than a year with all the materials and missions and stuff you have to do) just to get it to a level that's almost "personal" but not really getting there. same thing with the home instance, don't really have a "home" or "house" or "private space" there that has your name on it and you can't decorate it. housing is not a fail-concept in mmorpgs, it's actually an attractive feature that offers an alternative gold/time sink for many players. BDO, FF14, SWTOR, Archeage, ESO, PSO2, and many other mmorpgs successful or not, have included housing -- with FF14 and ESO probably being one of the better ones out there. if Arena Net could reinvent the typical mmorpg mounts and make them better than the competition, im pretty sure they can do a really good job with GW2 Housing if it ever becomes a thing
  20. the OP has 4 stars next to their arenanet id which indicates that yes, they've been a pretty active forum goer -- so i assume it's the former, they're just trolling lol
  21. assuming this is actually a serious question, if fashion wars is your endgame, then yes GW2 is pay-to-win. you buy the best skins and cosmetics on the cash shop rather than farming then ingame. if it's pve (raids, fractals, strikes, dungeons) or wvw, then throwing more money at arenanet wont exactly win you anything for your character or progression other than actually helping the game stay online for years to come -- which in return wins you a game to play and enjoy for as long as the servers are live.
  22. if you're completely defeated (full dead) best to waypoint because people who try to res you will potentially kill themselves since they can got locked into the res and not dodge-cancel it incase an aoe drops on your character. the other reason to just waypoint is because you're scaling the event while adding nothing to the whole group in the period that you are defeated -- this is the reason why you will still get ress'd even when you're completely defeated, commanders generally don't want you to be dead weight to the group so there's no reason not to come back and waypoint if the boss still has so much hp, it's understandable to wait for a res if you were defeated when the boss had like 5% HP but at 30%+ better just come back via waypoint instead of hassling the people around you. if you are downed (with decreasing hp) however, try your best to stay alive as ressing you will only take a moment and usually most people are kind enough to go out of their way and help.
  23. wine 6.5 is out with bugfix for GW2 launcher not being able to login (error 42, regression that started from wine 6.3 and 6.4 and some custom patchsets/builds of wine 5.20 and up) release info:https://www.winehq.org/announce/6.5 bug report:https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50738 waiting for the wine-staging package on my distro to test :) EDIT:can confirm. compiled wine 6.5 with staging and tkg patchsets and the game logs in just fine. no issues playing whatsoever with just a very very rare crash after a map change/loading screen whenever i run arcdps (no crashes if not running arc even after long hours of play) -- this could be more of arcdps not playing nice with the latest dxvk build
  24. strange. i dont have that issue on human and asura and i've purchased the khaki one. are you using the dx12 addon perhaps? that's known to cause some temporary graphical glitches that sort itself out after shaders have been compiled
  25. we have this though https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sacred_Pegasus_Griffon_Skin :3
