Yes it is the same person. Yes he was decent. But this was 2013, people generally sucked back then compared to now.

Yeah, people sucked now when it were tournaments with 400K $ on the line; now that pros are playing for pennies they are way better.

Yeah, there's no reason to think that someone who has practiced for 10000 hours would have more experience or muscle-memory than someone who has practiced for 100 hours.

Its not crazy to think players are better now after 9 years of learning the game...i dont know how thats hard to understand just because the stakes were higher back then does not mean the quality of the competition is equally higher. Thats like saying Game X is harder then Game Y because game Y has a higher prize pool.

Or i could just compare Dota2 to tekken 7, both are difficult but tekken 7 is definitely more difficult even though dota2 has far higher prize pool in the millions vs tekken 7's 50k.

It goes even further, not only are "pros" better but "regular players" are also better. "Pros" being better now is evident from watching vods from 2013.

Yeah then why ROM, which is amongst the highest ranked players in EU at the moment, was comenting this noon in his streaming that He was better then, when was able to play FULL TIME every day than now, that has a family, more obligations and therefore can only play/stream a limited amount of hours a day (and of course not every day).

Pros in 2013 already had thousands of hours of experience just in PvP, and in WvW the leader of Red Guard was already level 9999 at that year; saying that the level in PvP  today is better when there's less people playing the game mode than ever, as the Glicko numbers prove, and less organized teams, and more problems with bost than ever is just silly.

The "people generally sucked back then compared to now" line which I quated is just a plain dumb statement. If all, the level is now worse due there's less people, less strong teams, less amulets, runes and sigils to make a difference (and yes, the game has now more skills and traits, but that doesn't translate into a huge variety in the meta (some classes don't have a secured spot in the roster despite having a core class + 2 specs).

1. Rom is not one of the best players now. He doesn't even play in tournaments. Ofc *he* was better when he didn't have a kid and could play all the time.

2. He is most probably talking about Pro-league and World Championship days, which was 2016. Not 2013. The first big money PvP tournament in GW2 was WTS Beijing, in December 2014. Nobody played GW2 professionally full-time in 2013.

3. "less amulets, runes and sigils" does not have an impact on player skill.

The game was pretty different in 2013 so saying players now are better is a stretch.

No, it is objectively correct.

Go back in time and prove it. Objectively of course.

Right?

Personally i've gotten a lot worse at PvP since CmC introduced his revolutionary pool-noodle combat overhaul; because despite playing it for years prior, I play it a lot less now because its boring.

Believe it or not: removing and/or nerfing pretty much everything is the opposite of fun
