Participate in Defense Event in World vs. World requirments

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a question about the participate in defense events in world vs. world in Wizard's Vault. Last week the weekly (think was 10 tower defenses) and completed that at the last day. I was playing WvW everyday for about average of 5 hrs, solo and with a commander. And defended many towers succefully. Today there is again a Participate in 1 Defense Event in World vs. World and just completed a tower defense and also recieved 11 lootbags from killing players, but no Tower defense? Can somebody explain to me what the requirements are for recieving the reward?

In my experience- sacrifice your first born and pray to rngsus to make it count. I have yet to find any consistent rule for when defending an objective will count and when not.

Btw., iirc it's always "just" any defense event, not specificly towers. And the best way to get those is playing on EBG when your world holds SM. At least that's where I get defense events most consistently.

yeah, not sacrificing my first born for better rng in gw2. 🙂 but thanks for the tip.

apologizes, I meant for the weekly the part in Achievement WvW weekly achievements. I don't remember in the previous version (possible before release of Secrets of the Obscure) having any issues with completing dailies. But those did not have any WvW defense, only capture or kill, if I am right.

Has nothing to do with weekly defense, they were there since quite a while ago.
They simply changed Wall Repair to Not Give Defense Credit, and now proccing defense requires KILLING enemy players who fit the attacker criteria, something hard to judge or do when you are 3 v blob or if they simply didnt kill your guards/teammates.

You need to kill a player that is considered an attacker. How the game decides this is approximately witchcraft.

It is easier to get defender from keeps or especially SMC probably because it is easier for enemy players to aggro said guards and be considered an attacker while towers have all kinds of blind spots with no guards.

In general I recommend ignoring tower defense completely. You do not need it to receive the 8 gold weekly because you only need 6/9. And honestly even if you can't get 6 elsewhere, 8 gold is not worth that sort of effort.

I usually only get that by the end of the week, when I can get the WV defense weekly in 1 day and the other defenses and pretty much any other wvw achievement long before I get tower defense.

Also you should give boons to allies whenever because it's easier to get credit for kills if they kill someone in the vicinity.

The following is my understanding, however, due to the nature of the "participation" it may not be 100 percent accurate.

You get this achievement if the following conditions are met or you don't get the achievement if;

(A) For an enemy player to simply aggro a guard (and do no damage) does not count if you then go on to kill the enemy player.
(B) The enemy player must do damage to the guards, however, the damage must be more than 1 or 2 low dps hits, if the enemy player is then killed by you individually, or you do more damage than 1 or 2 low dps hits on them and the group kills them, it counts.
(C) The enemy player must kill a guard and then be killed by you.
(D) If in a group, your damage must exceed 1 or 2 low dps hits to an enemy player who has achieved (B) or (C).
(E) Destroying siege does not count.
(F) The operator of siege does damage to the guards and then you individually kill the operator or get more than 1 or 2 low dps hits on them and they are killed by the group.

I don't think I've ever completed the defend towers weekly. Albeit I rarely go for weeklies on purpose and don't really ppt but if I'm close, Ill go and finish the 6. Some weeks when I play a lot of wvw Ill complete most naturally. But defending towers. I don't think I have ever been close.

Yea with a 6/9 requirement there is no point to aim specifically for that.

The best way to probably get it is to take a tower and defend it, or find a tower with someone afk in it, and only kill them after you take it. However, they need to aggro the guards or there will be no swords so you need ccs to knock them into the guards and sometimes this still does not work. It's a lot of effort really and doesn't actually involve defending since most towers are defended by preventing them from ever coming in the first place.

There has to be a timer up. You have to see the timer on your screen while hitting an attacker. If the attacker runs away and dies you might still get credit, but it's better to kill them in range of the timer. An attacker must die. If all that happens you have a random chance to get credit. It is possible to get the weekly/daily space bucks credit and not get a tower defense so they must be rolled separately.

Don't listen to anyone that says "kill siege" or "must be inside" or "must have touched lord" or "it's only the person that did the most damage". They are all just victims of cognitive fallacy or pareidolia.

I have killed 20 in a keep on the lord and gotten no defense and I've gotten one hit on a guy running away from a tower and gotten credit.

Anet is too cowardly to just tell us the truth, this has come up countless times and they have never once just told us how it's supposed to work.

This. Sadly, very much this. The defense mechanics have been broken for quite awhile now. Folks on this forum have been asking Anet over and over again to fix those broken mechanics. Anet has not responded in any way to such requests. Their silence on this issue is deafening.

The defense Event needs to recognize a player as participants.

But, if all tower Npcs are dead and the wall is down, what could an attacking player do to trigger them being part of the event?

Basically nothing.

There is no difference of them standing in the tower or in spawn at this point.

The game has no reason to make them part of the event.

The game has no reason to make you part of an escort event when you run past a dolly for 1 second, yet it does and at the same time doesn’t. It’s Schrödingers event.

The game checks for the buff on the dollyak.

Which checks for players nearby.

3 refreshed of the buff is bronze (if I remember correctly) Which the minimum for event participating.

So no. 1 second next to the dollyak never worked.

Have Afk farmed Wvw using the dollyak event for weeks a few years back.

So please clarify, what actually triggers the defense event?

What does Anet need to code to define the attack events that haven't been released?

If you don't know I enjoy your viewpoints and snark but you need to give some as well as snark. Its matter of balance when you see me reply. So where is the defense events breaking and how can we help Anet define failed attacks that are of value? Thoughts?

I'm pretty consistent on defense achievements, I'll start by building siege to help along with the structure upgrading. If a player/players comes by and just look without participating in setting up I'll speed up my building. It won't be long after that an enemy will show up, if it's a good size zerg I'll engage and put out the word of their location. Once friendlies arrive and engage I'll jump into the fray. It's worked for me on a verily consistent basis, but sometimes the enemy just refuses to even show up on our side of the map.

I've seen times where for 4 hours the enemy don't touch our side of the map except for a few roamers while locked in a structure with one of our commanders with now casualties taken for like 30 minutes at a time. Wouldn't dare go check it out it, usually ends up being a ambush with everyone running out and way pointing as soon as I enter the structure especially smc.

It probably requires someone getting credit for killing a guard.

This is probably accurate.

In order to get credit for taking any objective you need to either kill a guard or capture the circle(damaging gates or walls of towers and keeps used to sometimes work but seems nonexistent nowadays).

In a tower or keep defenders would likely have to kill someone that has killed a guard because it wouldn't be a defense if they met the 2nd way attackes get credit(cap the circle). This potentially could be the secret because if a zerg of 40 show up how many of those 40 killed a guard at the outer, unless they are sharing credit like the labyrinth or something.
