Kung Fu Tea Promotion [Merged]

edited September 14, 2018 in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Update: 14 September 2018:

The Kung Fu Tea / Guild Wars 2 promotion currently is paused while Kung Fu Tea works out issues with their distribution network.

As indicated in the Kung Fu Tea blog, they will resume code distribution as soon as they make corrections to their systems.

Just read on Black Lion Daily Herald about this promotion!
It is only going to benafit a select few players !
One thing I loved about this game is the fact that everyone was treated the same .
I had the same chance as anyone in game to get anything in game .if I worked hard enough .
Now you take that away with this promotion .
Closest place to me is 4 hours away !
Not Cool Anet Not Cool at all !!

  • What's the Black Lion Daily Herald? What's the promotion?

    Ahh...never heard of it.

If it's an online promotion, I'd guess one would not necessarily have to visit a store?

I live between a few, about 30 minutes to an hour. My drink I got was pretty ok, not great but ok.

Not really not everyone will be able to get free stuff because this company is in only a few places .
    Large cities .
Closest one to me is 4 hours away .

  • So, buy something online? Nothing about the promotion on their web-site...yet.

  • Umire.4596Umire.4596 Member ✭✭

They sale drinks what they going to do mail me a drink ?? LOL

  • Well, the website states free shipping on orders over $25, so I'd have to guess they do ship.

  • Umire.4596Umire.4596 Member ✭✭

Downloaded the app you only get points for buying drinks at the store not on line orders .

There's a KFT in Tempe, so maybe 30-40 minutes from work, if I cared enough to go there, which I don't.

  • Well, the quote said online promotion, so ...I don't know. Not that interested, and there's a store, evidently, a few minutes away.

What Dean said. To further back it up, I also saw this:

"Kung Fu Tea customers who link their Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook accounts through the Kung Fu Tea mobile app can claim unique in-game codes to download a dragon-themed character outfit, in addition to the Guild Wars 2 Heroic Edition. The Heroic Edition is not available at retail and expands upon the Guild Wars 2 game, offering a unique set of armor, an 18-slot inventory box, and 10 experience boosters to jump-start players’ adventures in the world of Tyria.”

Oh look. I have a signature now.

  • Well, there you go! I already have the Heroic Edition. I wonder which Outfit is the 'Dragon-themed Outfit' or if that is something entirely new.

I also wonder if it's a new outfit or if it's the dragon-hip-drape plate armor outfit I already have, or maybe the Ancestral outfit. There's a KFT within 20 minutes of me, and it's near a place that makes real NY style bagels, so I could make my way there. However, I don't drink tea, I have no idea what "bubble tea" is, and I don't have nor will I have Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. The "unique set of armor" in the Heroic Edition, btw, is the Krytan, Profane, and, um, whatever the heavy one is. Not anything new.

edit: Danikat remembered! Heavy is Primeval.

Hopefully it's something which is already in the game, like the Champion of Tyria outfit, and is just being given away free to people who participate in the promotion. Otherwise it's pretty unfair to all the GW2 players who live outside the USA (which is a lot of people - remember there are 27 EU servers, and that's not counting people from elsewhere in the world who choose to play on NA servers).

The Heroic Edition definitely falls into that category (assuming it is just the upgrades and not a second account) - that just gets you a choice of the Primeval (heavy), Krytan (medium) or Profane (light) armour from the gem store, a normal 18 slot bag and 10 XP boosters.

It's just this dragon themed outfit I'm not sure about.

There's a lot of variations but bubble tea is typically milky tea (of various kinds - usually black or green tea) with tapioca balls in it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubble_tea

I've had a few which were ok, but I'm not a big fan of milky tea. (My preference, depending on the variety of tea is no milk or what's known in the UK as builders brew - strong black tea with a little bit of milk, so it's kind of coffee coloured.) Not a big fan of tapioca either, but it's better in tea than tapioca pudding in school.

So someone could make a throw away Twitter, link it to Kung Fu app and get a free Heroic Edition account code and outfit code then delete the app? If that is the case I can see a lot of people using it for another alt account for daily login rewards. ;)

Huh. I have all three of those armour sets. If the outfit is one of the existing outfits, then my money would be on Ceremonial Plated, Champion of Tyria, or Harbinger of Mordremoth.

But it might just be something new that would be worth faffing with. I wonder if a member of Anet staff is prepared to pass comment... @Gaile Gray.6029 ? Anything?

It's the most likely choice. The "dragon themed outfit" they originally gave out during promotions was the dragon t-shirt, but it would look rather boring if they're trying to advertise to new players. Keeping with the logo theme, the champion outfit would certainly make a bigger impact.

For sure it would be boring, in a way, but I'd do the faffing-about handle-turning for that one. I have the hat from launch time, but I couldn't get a code for the T-shirt.

So in september you can link a fb-account with their app, get the heroic edition key and activate it on a f2p-account and then you have basically a free alt-account for daily login rewards? Sounds good.

The picture at the top of that page? I'm pretty sure that's a Mini Mystical Dragon in front of a player, who I think is wearing the Falconer's coat (human tier 2), but I'm not sure.

The fact that each article I've seen is using a different image and none of them seem to be a new outfit is the main thing which makes me think it's not a new one. Otherwise I'm sure Anet would have provided pictures of it to go with the promotion.

ANet might be saving that for their own announcement. They've been fond of dribbling leaks to game-news sites before, but we'll have to wait a few days for the official unveiling, probably.

The blurb does say you get the codes by linking to the app, so that's hopeful. It does not say an exclusive outfit. Maybe it will offer an outfit voucher rather than something specific, that would be sweet.

There's a Kung Fu Tea in my state, whoa! Three hour drive, though, not going that far for a drink. Even though I always kind of wanted to try bubble tea.

Seems like a cool way for two companies to advertise each other.

  • The main prize is a Heroic copy of the game (all expansions). That automatically comes with a special outfit. In addition, there seems to be some additional outfit.

What's unclear is whether that outfit will (or won't) be available through any other methods.

PS this isn't at all new. ANet's given away stuff before at conventions that couldn't be otherwise obtained in game.

i hope this is my moment to get the Dragon emblem tonic

  • This begs the question: why rebrand an existing drink? What about...

    Dragonfruit tea

Choya-inspired boba (could be made with cactus or dyed green)

I'm actually disappointed to find out from Google that amethyst cake is an actual gem stone and not a cake. I got all excited thinking about how they could have pulled it off (I'm thinking jelly...jello in America, or maybe sugar crystals for a smaller cake) and then I find they didn't, they just cut a square slab of rock. Considering branded plants tend to be poisonous (or venomous since I'm sure some will attack) I'm not sure I'd want to eat a branded cake, but it would look pretty.

I agree though, an original product would be more interesting. My vote would be a dragonfruit smoothie. I've never seen it sold but I've made them at home and they're really nice. Not sure about tea, although I can imagine dragonfruit and green tea working well, maybe chilled rather than hot.

Oh, it's boba (tea/fruit drinks). We have that everywhere here (except it's called boba, not 'bubble'). I like it well enough, though not enough to go out of my way to get it.
It seems amazing they are giving away Core (Heroic) copies of the game just for this. I thought it was just a code for the goodies that come with the old Heroic upgrade. Hope we don't get a rash of RMT spam. Also hope we get more information soon.

Dang, I've never even heard of kung fu tea until now. I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Nearest place is like 6+ hours away from me. No way in hell I'm going that far just for a drink.

  • Ashen.2907Ashen.2907 Member ✭✭✭✭

Hmm, nearest KFT is 15 minutes away...why couldnt it have been Jamba Juice?!

    😁

  • I am not sure what bubble tea is, but fortunately it is about 3 miles away from me.
I will check it out, just for kicks.
