Let's just accept that build templates are fine as they are. They started thinking on this since 2015. It took 4 years to get implemented after lots of development and testing. Fixing all sorts of bugs, reducing prices, refunding players, rethinking gear and legendary mechanics, adding options for PvE/PvP.WvW, making skills slots to be remembered (revenant?) - this is all a huge amount of work to be done. It's simply better to leave it as it is, and let them focus on new content, otherwise we will create another expansion hype that we might regret later on. Always, be careful what you wish for, it might just come true; we requested build templates, and we got it; now the game needs to move on.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

  • The template costs and limitations are completely at odds with the direction in which skill/trait balancing has been going. There are more and more cases of nerfs being justified by statements like "we wanted to offer a meaningful situational choice," and balancing is becoming more play-mode specific. I like both of those directions, but the problem is, we still don't have an acceptable way to make those "situational choices." Before these templates it was just way too much work to switch builds and equipment for each situation. Now, even with these templates, we get only a tiny gain in convenience for a huge financial cost. The best we can do is spend $360 to get a measely 12 builds and 12 equipment templates per class to cover all 3 game modes and all of these "situational choices" within each game mode. The builds and equipment templates aren't even tied to each other, so it's almost as much work as it was before to change everything. It's even worse than before when switching game modes because you nixed automatic build switching.

With the recent Scourge nerf I need to double my number of go-to builds now, one set for using Shades and another for avoiding Shades. Add to that several other factors each with a handful of options and I quickly exceed that limit of 12. I'd love to be able to adjust my build & equipment on the fly, but it's sadly way too much effort and expense and disruption of gameplay to be worth it. I'm resigned to just whittling everything down to one or two good-enough builds for each class and then picking the least of two evils in each game situation. And I'm going to cringe every time I see one of those "we wanted to offer a meaningful choice" explanations in balance notes. If you want to offer a meaningful choice, then offer good and affordable template mechanics!! Otherwise just please give me all my Scourge Shade mechanics back.

  • Would it be possible to make legendary gear sharable across all account characters? So that it wouldn't need to be unlinked from all character builds in case of giving the legendary gear to other character.

I really don't understand this system at all. It seems like a classic case of over-engineering. Why on earth are there seperate tabs for gear and traits? Why are build templates account wide? I don't get it and I don't think I've seen any other game ever do this.

they needed to monetize it and the best way was to break it up into 3 different revenue streams. All they were interested in was sales.

Its kind of what they do when they have a black lion key sale. normally keys are 2k gems for 25 but when they have a sale they put the regular price up to 3150gems so it seems like you are getting a deal

  • I guess I'm the odd one out here who happily spent gems on the built template package and am happily using it. Sure, you need to press 2 different key combinations to switch builds and gears but that takes me just half a second to do; the benefits for me definitely outweigh the negatives.

We want to acknowledge that we are reading the feedback expressed in this thread and the other forums threads about the Build and Equipment Templates. We are discussing this feedback internally to determine how we can address it.

I can understand you want to take your time with this but its been one week now without a word, so I sure hope we will get some info before the weekend.

Even if you havent found a consent yet on how you would like to address certain points of feedback, it would be nice to know which main concerns of the player base regarding build templates you have identified and discussing internally.

Like, if you had to summarize the feedback give in this and the other threads to give to the relevant people, how would it look like?

  • This template is useless, just another way they found out to earn more cash from the players xD. Besides it doesnt work at all, I tried but i didnt get to work.. Would be useful for Elem but it doesnt really work.

    SHINY!!!

  • Are we going to get a detailed response to these complaints or are we just going to let it drift into the background and get covered up by the newest release?? My money’s on “Will never get addressed properly because newest episode comes out.” Extremely disappointing Anet; it’s been almost two weeks and you guys even had a month of feedback before that as well. SMDH 🤬

  • Things I want changed about loadouts:

    • Call them loadouts or add a save button to make them templates
    • Change slot purchases to be account-wide instead of per character (especially gear slots - for fashion wars purposes)
    • Over time, add additional slots to the gem store for purchase as is currently done with account-wide inventory slots
    • Unlock a slot for each game mode with each slot purchase
    • Automatically switch builds when you enter PvE/WvW/PvP maps to whatever you were using there last time

These changes would make me more comfortable with the current price and marketing of your feature and would encourage me to buy more. Also, the system would feel smoother and improve my gaming experience.

its been 10 days now and still silence from anet. As a customer i feel disrespected now.
Is this being swept under the rug?

of course it is that being said constructive suggestion is to roll back the system and rework it. make them account wide and reduce it to 2 revenue streams by linking build and equipment into one. reduce the price, and we would appreciate a response from steph

  • The feature in itself is cool and opens the door to a lot of cool additions.
The price of the additions is a bit strange.
For those who like trying multiple playstyle/built, they have to compete with extra character slots and should be price accordingly. As it is, there is no way they would consist a viable alternative.
For those who have a main and stick to their main, that makes a little more sense, but it is still not a no brainer.
IMO, they should be sold in batch of 5, with a price balanced around the price of character slots.
An interesting alternative would be to allow the slots to hold an out of profession build, so the persons sticking to a main would be able to have other playstyles available, and would be able to "maximize" their main.

    "Directly interferes"? How?

I kept my legendary armor in shared inventory slots and used arc templates to swap builds on multiple toons. Can't do that now.

Ok, I understand that. How did you manage before Arc?

I've taken a while to reflect on the system & conclusion is this:

    • As far as I am concerned they could turn the build & templates system off, (or give players the option), to revert to auto build swap between pve, wvw etc and simply sell more shared inventory slots and it would be vastly better.
    • Templates & build system has reduced my interest in progressing on making legendaries, reduced the game goals that previous drew me to log in more often.
    • I feel less attached to 'main' characters I cared more for, and should just have many alts that sit on their own ascended gear sets & builds.
    • The rabid monetising of such a negative system has made me concerned that the people behind monetising this 'feature-set' are better suited to making trashy phone games to milk people's phone bills via their kids. Normally I'd make a minimum of what I'd consider a traditional monthly sub via gems, but this system has left me not wanting to buy other things.
    • It's a bad system & needs a ground up replacement designed to be some sort of shared accountwide legendary & ascended equipment vault with with build+ gear loadout.
    • A positive system could be monetised for increased capacity with no problems.

    In other fronts.
There's a really positive step that A-net has faced up to the fact that balance has been going wrong for a while and has taken some action. Admitting there is a problem is often half the battle.
At last we have the realisation that competitive modes don't play the same as PvE & you need people adept at competitive balance to be independently doing competitive balance. Hopefully someone will finally listen to the amazing new idea that competitive fights of up to 5 v 5 have fundamentally different mechanics compared to say 50 v 50 v 50. Reflects, blocks, boons, strips, cc, stability, sustain, combos, retribution, aoe target caps - everything scales totally differently in wvw compared to pvp. Making every class/spec bring value in PvP is fundamentally different from doing the same in WvW.
So having a separate competitive balance team is a vital halfway step towards the beta suggestion of having a working system of 3 separate pve, pvp and wvw balance teams.

Most else seems in a holding pattern for now:
WvW content is essentially - another year has passed, but please bear with us another year to work on features heavily suggested during beta, 7 years ago or so, to address coverage & player pop.
PvP content is in a rut, but there may be swiss & some interim eventy tourney stuff to stop off season killing pvp a bit more each time, etc at some point.
New expansion/classes to restore interest seem far off at present though.
There's some new story coming soon though so that's something at least, hopefully with a new stat set to give some interest beyond the play through.

My primary question is, why is it cheaper to buy more characters than it is to buy more template slots?

To defeat the dragons, see the good in them.
Zhaitan reunites lost ones, primordus creates fertile land, mordremoth spreads the green, and jormag..
    ..jormag? Who's that?

So now the official trailer for the next episode is out and you guys still haven’t responded to the build templates issues we’ve been talking about for a month and a half.

Easy to just sweep it under the rug and not deal with it when there’s a new release on the way, right? You even unpinned the thread so that you don’t have to think about it and just hope people stop talking about it. Disgraceful behavior honestly

    That's a different subject altogether.
The story content isnt run by the same team that's responsible for the templates.

(I'm not whiteknighting, but you're barking at the wrong tree here)undefined

  • Anyone else but me thinks this comes across as a really scummy "got'em" moment from Anet? As if they intentionally created an artificial inconvenience in order to push people to spend money. I fully understand Anet needs to make money, but this was such a disrespectful way to go about it. Hope they rectify this in the future, but until then, I cant help but feel disappointed in you, Anet.

They just re-used the existing load outs. PvE, sPvP, and WvW each had their own build load out which we got. PvE/WvW and sPvP both had equipment load outs. They expanded sPvP to match that of PvE/WvW.

We technically didn’t lose anything other than the load out switching automatically when going between game modes.

I guess thats true, but we also didnt gain anything if (and only if) you play more than 1 game mode. They just handled this feature so weird and unusual for the sake of monetizing it. I think they could have done better and still made money off it if they didnt so obviously make monetizing the feature their focus.

At this stage I take it that there will be no response, they have the feedback but choose not to address the issues people have raised or to comment. Same as the Legendary Upgrades and countless other issues that have had feedback threads. They no doubt count on fickle gamers being distracted by the next shiny.

  • Are we to take it that now that thee mods have unsticked this topic they are done with it, and we are not going to get any official feedback on this issues raised in this topic??????

Don't say what you mean, it will get you in trouble.

  • Can we have a separate pvp weapon/sigil/rune template???

Yes we did we gained a second equipment set since before we had 1 shared in pve and wvwvw now we have 2.
