The Mechanist....

I like the pet style of it, but I wish we also had the ability to mount the mech, on it's back or shoulder maybe, and use our own attacks while driving it around.

I suggested this in other threads:  Put the mech summon on F5, and make F4 mount/dismount the mech.  When you're riding the mech, you control it like your own character, you still have access to the F1-F3 and 1-5 skills as well as your utilities, and the mech's hitpoint pool becomes a sort of barrier for your own character, similar to how necromancers in shroud use life force as a health pool before taking actual damage.  If you take enough damage to kill the mech, you dismount and the mech goes on cooldown.  Would give the mechanist a way to tank even.

it took them what 2 years to change gyros into wells? if anything similar is to happen with the mech its not gonna be anytime soon

They came out in 2015, took until 2019 for them to be changed to Wells and actually be useful 🙂

unless we convince them to change during this beta period before EoD releases.

Not gonna happen. The specs will very likely stay as they are until EoD release. The devs take feedback for bugfix not for redesign.

NB.: Also, if you try using the asura powersuit, you'll be able to see how cluncky a "mech" would be... You don't want something at asura powersuit level of gameplay, believe me having this thing as a "pet" is the lesser evil.

It being a pet is cool. If it was usable, it would have ended like asura power suit.

Would have rather had a golem like a WVW omega siege golem transform that boosted your vitality to 11K-24K in PVE and power to 3K with crit 48% (and +2K toughness if traited for it). A golem in that fashion would be able to do condi or power depending on trait and stats.

WVW Siege Golem numbers:
* #1 Punch = 1.8K tooltip, with 1s cast time / Rocket Punch 2.3K tooltip with 1s cast time
* #2 Whirling Inferno = 4K tooltip, 4 burning stacks for 2s  , 90 knockback with 450 range, 12s cooldown and 5.5s cast time
* #3 Healing Shield Bubble = projectile block with heal
* #4 Pull = 800 range pull , 30s cooldown
* #4 Rocket Salvo = 1.6K tooltip, 1s knockdown , 30s cooldown
* Eject = drop out of it

Asura Powersuit elite: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Summon_Power_Suit

* Punch = 1K tooltip (3.5 power coefficient supposedly)  --- with full zerk +scholar at 2557 power and no traits it is 2028 damage on gw2skills
* Launch fist = 800 (2.8 coefficient) , 4s cooldown --- 1621 damage on gw2skills
* Gatling Fists = 2.2 coefficient , 18s cooldown and 7 cast time but ranged --- 1420 damage on gw2skills
* Whirling Assault = 140 knockback , 1.75 coefficient supposedly , 30s recharge --- 1014 damage on gw2skills
* Self Repair = 8% per pulse x 5 pulses, 30s recharge

7 series golem only has Gatling Fists  and Launch Fist. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Summon_7-Series_Golem
D series does a punch and shield bubble : https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Summon_D-Series_Golem

Yeah there would be absolutely nothing OP about running around with 250,000+ HP in PvE.

Honestly it wouldn't be nearly as clunky if we didn't lack the "attack" command... They seem to have combined the attack command to your no.1 so no matter what you have to have it attacking the same target as you which makes it feel kinda clunky if you're trying to put it on a different target while you focus on a different one.

You may have to wait till the next elite spec for that, after all some engineers have wanted a killer robot pet for quite a while and I can't see them changing the fundamental design of the elite specialization.

I would expect a mech suit would work more like a shroud mechanic than anything as it would make sense for the suit to have it's own healthbar which would be the shroud equivalent for an engineer.

Mr.  robot frequent missing in action,  or running off somewhere, or busy fighting a mob half a screen away.  I was excited from teaser, now it's ... meh.    This thing might be decent against a single target, but it's very awkward in large fight. I had to trait it to be range attacker specialist, so basically it's a mobile turret.  Damage isn't that bad, but the game play gets old quick.

This is actually what I think will happen for most players. Think the mech is cool and all, then they play it for a while and... start to get bored very quick because of the limited build choices (in the sense of: there are not alot of utility skills which you can viably use with it) and because of the passive playstyle of mostly watching your mech fight.

Then they move on to another class/spec and mechanist is forgotten.

My guess is that it will be somewhat like the Minion Master builds.  It may or may not do well in competitive modes but a lot of casual players that aren't interested in complex rotations will enjoy playing it in PVE, which is where a majority of players spend most of their time.
