Why are some of the armor looks revealing only for female character?

There's more than just the time and work that'd be required to change old armors, doing so would also screw over anyone that like any of those armors as they are.

There'd be ways to do it - introduce a new female appearance more closely based on the male appearance, and vice versa, and people who currently have the set unlocked get the new versions for free. Maybe even give every currently existing piece with that visual a one-off free transmutation to the other version.

Still, even if we write off the existing sets, there's no excuse to propagate the problem.

I don't agree that there even is a problem, as has been show many a time whenever this topic inevitably rears its head again, Anet's done a decent job of having armors that are gendered, unisex, revealing, and fully covered with varying combinations of there of for each gender and I rather like it that way.

The Saints Row series has proven this to be false. You a cocktail dress with high heels, earrings and bangles looks just as good on a  hairy, bulky, muscular, male character, than on a hairless, muscular, voluptuous female character.

Not everyone may enjoy either look, but they objectively look just as good.

Nevertheless, the fact is that gendered clothing is démodé.

It's better to make all looks available to everyone, and let them choose what they like.

It's a joke and comedy series. It's not supposed to be serious. And I disagree with your statement.

Well I guess its time for anet to add a new toggle to armor. "Clothing Type" male or female. Then both male and female characters will be able to choose witch version they would want to put on. Then there would be no disparity.

I can just about imagine the amount of cross dressing we would see haha!

(I know this an extremely hard task)

Or, you know, just make a male and female character like you are supposed to.

This is not just "hard", it's prohibitively difficult, we're talking twice the amount of work to make a set of armor..

I had a good laugh yesterday on another thread, where someone complained that my suggestion of a fitting armor set/outfit for the new forest cape did not have enough coverage and protective value:

I mean, like, for real? 😂

They seem to be expecting this game to be able to create a true cloak for characters to wear that can wrap all the way around like a real world cloak.

Doesn't address the problem of having a look that you'd really like on a particular character, with reasonable adjustments for sex, but you can't have it because that's one of the sets that's completely different.

The proportions of those however are very different for each gender. Male versions are predominantly unisex or fully covered, while females are primarily gendered and revealing. If the proportions between those 4 categories were similar for each gender, we probably would not have this discussion at all.

Is this responding to anything I said or you're just using the link from my post to talk about something else (buttcapes/skirts)? 😛

Now you're just complaining about irl fashion standards and try to blame it on the game. Kind of hard to give heels and skirts to male characters and if you want non-revealing or less revealing appearance for female characters, you do have those options. One could go ahead and easly make a claim that there's more diversity in female fashion (both irl and ingame) than there is for male characters. But that's bad because... Make everything unisex or it's sexist? That's just false.

There's still a revealing option. You know, the thing that male Norn players have been unsuccesfully begging Anet for since the beginning of this game.

If anything, that list shows it can be done and proves the lie to the claim that male clothing that's as skimpy as the female sets just can't work. Now, just make every 'battle bikini' style set for female characters be matched with something like that for male characters. While if the male characters get a set that's more 'dignified and elegant', the female characters should get that as well rather than a 'covers just enough skin to avoid breaking the T rating' set.

It's kinda off-putting when a reasonably solid breastplate on a male character turns into an armoured halter top with a 'stab me now' opening for the stomach on a female character. And that's a relatively recently introduced heavy set.

Now, that's not saying that they have to be identical. It's reasonable for the female equivalent to a suit to be something like an elegant dress. But I don't think we should be seeing what is effectively lingerie as the female equivalent of a suit.
