Elves, flying Rainbow Kitties, Top Gun sunnies ... yet no Horse mount skin?!

LOL! 😅 Neither Phlunt nor any other Asura has elvish ears. 😉 But nice try. 😋

This game is full of lore- and immersion-breaking skins. People are

  • wearing t-shirts, blue jeans, white sneakers, sunglasses, mini skirts,
  • dressing in futuristic cyberpunk gear,
  • now able to cosplay Elves,
  • using furry rainbow kitties for jade-bots,
  • riding tons of beasts that are not present in Tyria's fauna nor lore,

... yet we are denied a simple Horse mount skin

and are instead stuck with a horrendous lab accident of a unicorn/pegasus/griffon mix and a fluffy Kirin?

C'mon, ArenaNet -- have a heart! 🥰

Ok after the elf ears I now fully support your horse Ashantara.

Anet likely will not ever flat out say that they never intend to add content.  They did that with mounts, and then eventually made perhaps the best mount system in modern mmos.

They never said that about mounts. It was always "we are not implementing mounts at this time" until they did.

Out of curiosity, OP, what mount are you thinking would get the basic horse skin? There's only one that would fit, especially with the models.

Unless you're talking about a whole new mount?

Fair point.

I'm pretty sure Anet could modify the kirin jackal skin with little effort to offer you a basic horse. A horse that could teleport, though...

Mounts in GW2 are somewhat magical creatures so far. What makes mounts in GW2 special are those distinct abilities they come with. And that's quite an obstacle to take if you try to use common farm animals like dolyaks as mounts. A dolyak jackal skin? Wow, think of all the frazzled charr ranchers constantly chasing their herd porting away.

There's one exception: the warclaw. Warclaw abilities are limited to wvw, in pve open world they do nothing fanzy, don't they? Maybe implementing a new mount class in core Tyria based on warclaw would indeed be a good idea - a bit slower than other mounts, no special abilities, no mastery line involved, available for new players (including f2p) very early on after completing a certain quest, skinned as a basic horse. Optional skins for different horse breeds plus other common animals like dolyak, marmox and so on available for gems of course to monetize it. And the limitations might trigger some more PoF sale to get "real" mounts.

Heh heh. 😄 Well, never saw a Kirin teleport, either, so...

I'm flexible. The Warclaw would likely make the most sense animation-/motionwise, but I would be okay with a jackal or raptor skin, too. 😉

  • Ashantara.8731 changed the title to Elves, flying Rainbow Kitties, Top Gun sunnies ... yet no Horse mount skin?!

Just leaving this here since it shows that humans with elf ears exist in the lore. In any case, many Gem Store skins are basically just illusions (based on some fluff info we got about them), so I do not see how it is really lore breaking that a person would use magic to get these ears. After all, gender change is also done in lore  via magic.

If they say X will never be in game, then folks who want X may quit.  However, if Anet never says one way or the other then folks who want X keep hope and may hang around for years.

We were never going to return to Cantha, and yet ... here we are.

For the curious, that link is to a reddit comment dated 9 years ago, discussing not only the absence of Cantha in GW2 shortly after launch, but the reasons for its absence (and that of the Canthan District in Divinity's Reach) and the existence of the since-removed Great Collapse in what is now the Crown Pavilion.

That's not a human! 😄 It's a Christmas Elf. And if you really think they exist, then you must think the same about all the other gimmicks and skins in the game that were clearly not added because they exist in the world of Tyria but because the developer(s) thought it would be funny or cool to add them.

And I think it would be cool if they added a horse mount skin. 😁

That link does not say we are never going to return to Cantha, and in fact includes direction on how doing so might come to pass.

Josh didn't say anything about never returning to Cantha.  He just guessed about the reasons for the removal of the Canthan area of Divinity's Reach.  You should listen to the podcast.

My interpretation of the post was that ArenaNet never said one way or the other about Mounts (just the same as never saying they weren't going to add any particular content).  Thus, giving players hope for years...and eventually adding Mounts.

Actually, mounts were originally mentioned as one of the things they considered adding to GW1 and could not, due to engine limitations, thus resulting in GW2.

Mounts aren't really magical though? The only truly magical mounts are the Jackal, Warclaw, and Skyscale.

warclaw included because of the base version being a cat bound to the armor.

The poster's post and what he/she meant, not what ArenaNet said or didn't say.  I know what ArenaNet said, it's right in the Wiki.

"if you really think exist" I do not get your logic (or lack of thereof) because what I sent (and the poster below me) clearly shows that characters using what looks like your typical elf ears clearly exist in the universe. And at least one GW1 npc mentions elves (Brrrtie says hello). If it is added ingame, then it is canon, no matter how you might dislike it, and elves have a precedent from the original Guild Wars.

You did not read all of that did you.

So yea they did not say no to cantha but he cantha district in divintys reach was removed.

Josh notes that this anti-Cantha decision could have been made by some random over-sensitive executive in Korea, and may not actually pose a problem for the future, depending on who's calling the shots at NCsoft now.
