Is it just me or EOD meta events are boring?

Recommended Posts

I still remember the HOT metas. They were awesome. I did them countless times.

So far I did the Seitung and Kaineng metas once each. It was very boring. Running around killing trash mobs with a not so great boss at the end. The overall difficulty of the events felt relatively low. Maybe I just got gud. No interesting mechanics. No side events. Not even another lane in Seitung for replay value. I don't know if the other lane in Kaineng is different.

There are three lanes during the Seitung meta. But yes, the EoD meta events are lackluster in terms of fun. They are a mere grind for currency. Only the Dragon's End meta is designed in an interesting way, but then again you have to spend about an hour doing pre-events until you get to the fun part.

Yep, they're pretty boring. But the HOT metas get old after a while too. Grinding gets boring man.

Tbh, when I first saw the 100 AB metas chiev, I thought it will be insanely hard to do. It's not.
HoT metas are also very well timed, so it's really easy to chain them together without a need to spend a lot of time on simply waiting or doing some minor events. Despite those facts, they are still pretty rewarding for the time spent on the maps.

Open World isn't the most exciting thing in the game in general.

Seems like someone didn't reach dragons end yet. And missed the endless topics about its difficulty and too hard mechanics 🙃

While the first three maps do not include difficult or challenging meta events, they are on par with most other metas around Tyria. HoT has always seemed to be the exception when it comes to interest, and good rewards are a big part of that.

People keep comparing to HoT and forgetting that PoF metas don't compare remotely to what HoT offered.

Map 1 has recycled Four Winds "collect floaties for 20mins" as a meta.

Map 3 has the ok Augury/Dopple.

Map 4 has meagre Junundu event and broken and just utterly dumb Maws.

Map 5 has meagre forge dogs and the longwinded, unrewarding Serpents Ire.

If core metas are bad, PoF metas are bad, and EoD metas are bad, maybe we need to come to the realisation that HoT is the exceptional case here. And maybe Anet needs to rebottle the magic that was HoT metas.

It’s not just the metas, but events in general are lacklustre and uninspired even compared to core

I remember a random event asking me to haul crates near a dock using my mount. I was like "what even is this?" and then I stopped. And left without even finishing it.

That’s one of the better ones. I actually enjoyed that one 😂😂

I don't think they're necessarily bad, the bosses are ok for the meta standards. The biggest, maybe only, issue I have with those events are the escorts -without change, following npcs around is kind of a snoozefest. I think eod metas would be improved simply by squeezing their events into a smaller part of the map instead of escorts taking 50-80% of the maps where we're basically just running and stopping to wait for npcs to catch up. Although due to the thematical stopping points of the events along the way of those escorts, at this point it's rather hard to expect anything about that will change.

Totally agree. I don’t mind escorts and I understand their existence as lead in, population builders and map storytellers, but they have become too long, too many and too unengaging as a result. This was the issue I had with North Drizzlewood. By the time Claw of Jormag turned up as the epic climactic fight… I was bored and restless.

DE is great, best meta currently in game imo and Seitung has a few interesting enemies.

Hot metas have great mechanics, multiple lanes coordination. The design is great but the powercreep caught up and now you spend most of the time waiting and staring at the wall because the bosses just melt in a minute. Its strange if bosses dont die in the first burn phase.

Wait, you call HoT main events META?

VB — waiting for a boss, then killing only one of them. This is not a meta.
AB — waiting during the "challenges" and then just smacking the DPS golems.
TD — one pre-event and then boss.

Only DS is real meta event there, because you have to do something in order to reach the final boss. So... EoD has already 5 real metas.

I think people are mixing versions. In the original versions of HoT, to gain access to full loot, you had to build map participation. Those events, in a way, built a story in the "open world". Hence the perception that the HoT was not just waiting for the boss.

Yeah, like I said in an other thread, metas peaked in HoT and we've been on a downhill.

And then there are metas like Dragonfall and Drizzlewood. They are profitable but I hate how chaotic/tedious they are. Teleport here, rush there, now go back, etc... Bleh! Mechanic-wise, I like Dragon's Stand the most, too bad it's not that profitable compared to the chaotic metas.

PoF certainly had the worst of all three, although I did enjoy Augury Rock.

But, yes a little of HoT magic would be great, just not forgetting maps need more than just metas. HoT did the meta or world boss or whatever semantic name you want to give them, to perfection, but forgot about smaller events and had to go back and add some in later. It’s about balance.

When they said EoD was going to be the best of HoT and the best of PoF, I thought the quality metas of HoT and the quality and variety of local events of PoF was going to be the result. We got neither (imo)
