Why is daily activity in the PVE category? They're usually PVP events.

I had the daily activity 4 times now, and every time was Crab Toss. It doesn't feel very random.

ps. I don't mind the activity daily, just feels wrong getting the same all the time.

Before they put the Wizard's Toilet into the game, it was Crab Toss most of the time as well.

Yep, most days I can pick something else (of the 4) when we get 'daily activity' but after reset yesterday I was forced to choose between spirit vestibule OR 'activity.'

I picked the lesser of the 2 evils just to get 4 dailies done even though I loathe activities. I have enough anxiety outside of game without being forced into competitive activities because they deem them to be PvE.

The one plus, if there is one, is that for most activities you don't actually need to participate in it to get credit - you need to push some buttons now and again so you don't get kicked for being idle, but you can otherwise basically sit there an ignore everything and get credit.

Last week sometime, I think I had southsun survival as a daily activity.  I popped in, was in wisp form (game already under way), wandered around for maybe 15-20 seconds not doing much, and someone won, activity was complete, and I got credit.  Best daily activity ever.

Anet should really just remove activities from the dailies - I'm not sure what purpose they serve.  Sure, it attracts some content, but if that is the only reason people are playing them, maybe that says something about the content itself.  I thought I saw something that the revamped system was supposed to make it so people got their dailies through more normal play and were not needing to got out of their way to get them, but the jumping puzzles and activities is totally counter to that.

Or instead of it being activities, make it mount/skiff races - those are on enough maps, and something I would actually done in some cases (especially if not tied to a specific map, but maybe a region), as I've not got gold on a bunch of them, but would certainly be willing to revisit it if part of a daily..

I usually just AFK Southsun because I hate that one. Crab Toss is just a goofy meme of an activity, so I generally do that one. Sanctum Sprint, I used to live in back when it first released lol; been finally running into other people who are really good at it, and that's been exciting. I hate keg toss.

However, yeah, most of the activities are "This would be really fun to do with my friends while we all hang out in discord" (especially Southsun and keg toss) and not so much with randoms.

And, yeah, it'd be nice if Anet would add the adventures and races to the daily list, too.

I don't mind doing them because they only take a few minutes and I can often get other dailies like dodging done at the same time. But I agree that more variety of dailies would be nice. Some of the ones from the old dailies I think could be added back:

  • Complete an Adventure (ideally not specifying which, since some are annoying to get to or locked a lot of the time)
  • Complete a Bounty
  • Complete a Dungeon
  • More mini dungeons - I don't know if it's a coincidence that the same ones keep coming up, but it would be nice if more of them were included. (Maybe sort it so shorter jumping puzzles and mini dungeons go into the daily list and longer ones in the weekly.

I thought about including world bosses, but those appear in the weekly list. Also I often have bad luck with the timing, it took me until Sunday evening to get Claw of Jormag done even though I was home from Thursday because whenever it was up before then I couldn't get online, so if it was a daily instead of a weekly I'd most likely miss it.

The other side of the coin is that now there are a lot of afk players in the activities. For serious players (are there any? I'm not),  I'm sure it's a pain to have afk players on your team.

If the activities were even remotely interesting (even the jumping puzzle one is better than the pvp variety) I think more people would engage.

Speaking of the PVP version, why do I zone in as a ghost half the time in the Southsun Survival??

You zone in as a ghost ins Southsun Survival because the game is already under way, and some other players have already died.  When you die, you turn into a ghost, so I guess the theory is that they wouldn't want someone to zone in later in the game and be able to win without have really done anything but zone in at the right time.

Indeed it should be PvP. There are lots of other things they can add. e.g why not more kill or complete events in Tyria?

Oh pls don't put activities under spvp achievs. We already have jumping puzzles, dead maps no one played for years and escorting silly cows in wvw. At least keep spvp achievs about playing spvp. And yeah I agree some activities are technically pvp and if pve players don't like them, that is completely understandable. But lets keep them out of spvp.

If Sanctum Sprint is PvP then I suppose all the mount races and the Celestial Challenge during Lunar New Year are technically PvP as well, since you compete with others there as well.

In Sanctum Spirit, you attack other players. In mount races, you don’t interact with other players.

Anyways, the reason activities are under PVE is probably because final placement has no effect on anything, so players are not really "competing" against other players.

Technically, we cooperate during the Celestial Challenge. If I remember correctly, we need to fill bars by passing through the bubbles during those races.

Getting more points means you get more rewards. More people fill the progress faster, but you compete for the amount of rewards you get.

Of course, PvP event in PvE dailies is only an issue in the fact that you have to choose what type of dailies you want.

In the old system, doing an activity would show in the PvE area of dailies, but because there were WvW and real PvP dailies to choose from, one could often find a less annoying/more enjoyable daily in one of those other categories.  But now there is only 1 extra, so one can get stuck with 2 not so great choices.
