2v2's are coming

So we all know 2v2 swiss style tourni's are coming.. hopefully they prove popular and will become a regular thing.
Aside from fb+scourge, what other comps could work?

    How you play? It's just few simple steps:

    1.You make condi scourge/bunker firebrand
    2. You go duo-q in with other scourge/firebrand
    3. You win against everything that it's not scourge/firebrand casue there is nothing that can kill scourge/firebrand duo
    4. You spend few hours fighting one scourge/firebrand duo

    Did I missed something?

    Nothing ....that's the exact scenario

    Viable:
    Fresh Air + Scourge
    Ventari + Scourge
    Scourge + Scourge

    2v2 only has potential if the balance team gets their kitten together.

  • Scourge + firebrand? You guys speak like it's a glorified one node conquest mode, it's 2v2 in a open arena/map. Chrono power mesmer + holo anyone? Spiking the target down while double moaing the support might be a valide and quite a strong combo against any comps, especially one witha necro.

    I dont expect much

    Perpetual Mirage + something else composition

    Mesmer will continue to be a busted class on every game mode until ANET has the guts to do something about it
    Its been like that since pretty much launch

    Why do people insist that 2v2s would be good, when they were forced way back in 2013, and even then casters would lose track of all the garbage happening on screen? It was just 4 people on a single point, and they would sometimes lose track of what was happening. Or explain how anybody watching this would find it engaging when every GW2 caster EVER has only ever said "Oh, Player X is going in now," or "Player Y is +1'ing [capture point]," or "and Player Z goes down," for no reason except for how it's impossible to adequately describe in real time the passive/instant-cast torrents which vomit out of every player in every engagement? GW2 is not built for enjoyable viewing, and it's not built for skillful duels.

    What will the arena be like? Will there be capture point to worry about?

    If the arena is super small or there is a capture point to contest, scourge will obviously be super strong with a support. However, if it is open space w/o capture point, scourge is actually not that strong at all.

    Mirage is like opposite of the spectrum. It is poor in contesting caps but an expert in open space.

    I'm glad this is happening, balance isn't right yet, but maybe it will force them to balance around it long term.

    I'd rather it exist and them get data on it, than be like "we internally tested this, it's fine!"

    @Daishi.6027, this might mean the oposite... since current game powercreep and spam is way to much towards 5vs5 combat, it made the combat exremelly lame, they might add a 2vs2 combat but within time will add more power creep, its a snow ball effect, more like a placebo than a real balance.

    This sounds like more a test than anything else, powercreep was the result from reducing the 8 players team play to make each players on the team of five with the capabilities of a 2-4player gank or spike, since this game dont evolve towards armor stats, but does towards power creeping with skills end €xpan$ion to get better gimmicks, maybe 2 vs 2 might become real...
    If this is true... it confirms more power creep and aoe spam...over and over..to amke palyers envolve their characters with buildd and awfully bad designed trailines.

    .. the truth is they never will balance the game wich is more than expected and they are throwing random pvp modes to try to keep the players.... w/o actually fix the problem on it root.

    This game stopped being about countering as soon as they added uncounteredable skills (unblockables anyone?) and builds, and when they stop adding big skill tell-signs to the game. But even taking that in to consideration you would still be countering in a 1v1 or you die.

    Ban Magi/Mender from 2v2 and re-tone the weakness duration os scourge and you'll have a much more balanced 2v2.

    But I sitll think 2v2 balance might be impossible to attain. 3v3 would be much better because with teamwork most cheese comps could be shut down.

    No need to moa the support. Moa the target at full hp. If power mes and holo can't burst the target before moa over they have a huge problem between their ears.

  • anything i mean anything! but circlequest. I am so kitten tired of having to babysit little rings on the ground. That's not pvp that sitting or dancing around 3 little points. For the love of The All Mighty Flying Spaghetti Monster please let us move on from circlequest and have some real pvp with TDM.

    There's no need for a kitten capture point in 2v2. Don't downgrade it like that please Anet.

    (Oh and btw, I’ll destroy any Scourge with my Mirage. Don’t make a class overpowered in your mind when it isn’t, specially not when holding a point doesn’t count. Scourge is shihhiit.)

    For this game mode, a few considerations:

    • Duo queue or should it be solo queue only?
    • Will certain amulets be disallowed?
    • Depending on mode popularity, should opposing parties be invisible before start and communications between them be muted? (you think win trade is bad now)

    With how GW2 is balanced, and considering the mechanics of the game, I foresee a lot of egos being bruised after the best meta is discovered. Players will not be able to so easily pass off a loss as 3 man pug trash, especially if they could duo q with a player they considered to be highly skilled.

    If the best players are truly the best players, then it would seem if they have good chemistry the best 2 players will consistently hold the top spot.

    Perhaps the best players have quit, and will come back to prove they are the best. Perhaps the true best players will rise in this mode.

    I see only three possibilities:

    • The best players are the best and the top spots will be held consistently by those 2 players as long as they are active players
    • The "best players" are not truly the best because 100-1000 active and non -active are relatively equal skill and it will come down to focus and ping.
    • The game mode will also become a place to win-trade and the best will have paid the most gold.

    I won't be playing it. I know where I stand, but I will spectate if they have that as an option lol

    Predicting the most broken 2v2 combo that will overshadow all others : Druid + Mirage, both condi.

    You can quote me on this in future.

    Ooo, in Quaggan opinion, mostly likely any heavy hitting power build + Firebrand, thats because Firebrand himself is weak against power damage and you just have to avoid might generation, so Scrouge won't have free perma weakness on boon corruption.

    Mirage Condi is already quite OP 1v1 but... Codi Druid??

    Condi Druid is so under powered, a paper clip and rubber band will counter it :/ Condi Rev performs more than Condi Druid and that's saying something..
