There should be mech skins in the gem store

There are jade bot skins, but those are visible for a few seconds and not that often, it would be cool to able to buy skins for the mech like one in which the mech has an inquest style or one in which he has a branded style like the branded mount skins.

What do you think?

No, a mech is like a ranger pet or necro minion.  Those aren't skinnable either and would most likely require a lot of work to make so.

A necro minion is necro minion.

A mech is a mech.

Just because one sucks, doesn't mean the other has to be just as bad.

I agree that it would be really cool to customise the mechs.  However, I think the visual noise they create is a bigger problem, and adding flashy skins and dyes would make it worse.

Compromise idea, replace the Mechs with jade bots (lore wise, say the mechanist has just adapted the bot to fight in combat).  That way they'd be much smaller and less annoying to others AND you'd be able to actually make use of the jade bot skins.

Best suggestion for these 2 ideas I've seen yet!

Yeah, that'll go over well with all the Mechanists. I can see Anet's patch note already: "That Gundam you thought was so awesome when you saw other players running with one that you started a new Engineer, leveled it, and then leveled the elite spec, just to have one of your own? Yeah, we're taking it away from you and replacing it with a small flying ball."

I have a mechanist, and I'm OK with that, especially if I get that cute little ghost skin.

It could be a toggle for other players so they dont have to see the mechs but you still do.

In the same vein you could make it so you only see your mech making it easy to spot were it are in the sea of mechs currently.

I'd really like for SOMETHING to be done with Mechs, with how ubiquitous Mechanists have become and how Mechs, unlike ranger pets and necro minions to a lesser degree, ALL look the same it starting to get on my nerves seeing them everywhere like giant kittening clones. I'll gladly wave my usual "I'd rather Anet do something else" shtick just so there's a bit of variety, and I've hardly touched my Mechanist at all, its everyone else's that's getting to me.

I don't think giving mech skins is a good idea.

1. Mechanist is an elite specialisation meaning it's 1/27th of all specialisations. Giving mech skins would mean mean that they would have to come up 26 or at least 8, if they would do this only for EoD specs, additional things that are simmilar like different auras or spell animations, since most don't have a pet to skin. Otherwise this would imply favouritism towards one elite spec.

2. It would make mechanist more profitable compared to other specs. This would increase anets interest for as many players as possible to play mechanist, severely affecting the balance of elite spec.

3. At the same time it would give mechanist players a solid argument against any potential nerfs. Something in the form of: "I have payed for a mech skin and now I can't use it because mechanist sucks."

That depends totaly how they implement it.

If you for example have to buy a mech skin to be able to reduce the visibilty of other peoples mechs then it is targeted at none mech players aswell.

I guess, just like how rangers can charm pets around the world, there could be broken mechs around the world that engineers fix and take in.

I don't think that mechs can be skinned for the same reason that ranger pets can't be skinned, but if pets can be swapped out, I guess that mechs could be, too. Now the question is whether new mechs differ only in skin, or if they also have different skills, like pets. I'd opt for only skin changes. The mech seems to be a lot more powerful than a pet.

Edit: It may be enough to have mechs of different colors, so there's variety without the flashiness problems.

So players would have to pay to change the skin of another players mech or reduce their visual noise?

The only way to reduce visual noise of the mech is to properly balance mechanist, thus reducing the number of players who play mechanist.

Making them smaller woukd make placing them during fights harder cuz they would become harder to see

Mechs arent pets or necromancer minions, they are mechs and have their own mechanics, the specialisation is built around them. The problem is that while rangers have a wide variety of pet options and necromancer have multiple different minions available (7 different types in total) the mech looks only way and I think people would pay to customise it.

I'd love to have a Golem instead of the ugly Mech.

I'd love to have a watch knight instead of the ugly Mech. 🙂

Another possibility that at might help at least a bit would be to assign each different grandmaster tier option a different color so heal mech would look different than condi mech which would look different from the dps mech.

However someone's earlier suggestion was pretty good. Engineers ought to be able to collect Mech chassis the way a ranger collects pets and then pick their chassis. even if chassis are only visual variation with absolutely no impact on mechanics and performance it would help clear this up.

Sure, but rangers cope with smaller pets.  Besides, in the current setup, basically everything is hard to see because there are so many massive mechs in a group (which I say as someone who likes mechanist).

Under the current system I think there are basically two routes - (1) mechs get made less visually annoying, (2) mechanists get nerfed to the point that they're no longer popular.  We're probably looking at (2) in November anyway, but unless (1) happens then I think (2) is pretty much guaranteed.
