Leaked patch notes for ele

Disclaimer: I am actually very grateful for all the work arenanet does for us, despite my occasional critiques. This is also a joke, these aren't leaked notes (yes, I did need to say that).

The downstatementalist has been meta-defining for quite some time now, and we felt it could use a little love. We don't really know anyone who actually plays this class, so a few of these were pretty much guesses, but we did our best and at the end of the day that's all you could ask for.

To begin, we wanted to address the complaints regarding catalyst in competitive environments. A lot of players using low skill floor low skill ceiling high reward low risk builds don't like losing to Catalyst. Likewise, some edgy but competent players who are decent at catalyst killed a few noobs once and then concluded that it was a very mindless spec, because they were good enough to play it.

- Jade sphere no longer applies boons and it's radius has been decreased to 80. We feel this will make it easier for noobs to cope.

- hammer has been absolutely gutted. There is no reason to use it ever again. All skills will now do zero damage. People will still find a way to complain about it though, so we will monitor the situation about as carefully as we've monitored glitches on elementalist over the years.

- fixed evasive arcana tooltip to reflect how the skill functions, there is no longer a fire dodge skill because kitten you that's why, not my problem I'm a mechanist main LOL. Eat kitten elementalist hahahahahahaha

- nerfed super speed because of one problem elementalist who triggered a few big complainers, despite the fact that we couldn't find anyone else who did this. Yes, we will nerf an entire spec because of one player.

- percent stat stacking through catalyst traits has been reduced and now is redundant. Catalyst will break like a wet paper bag when fighting any End of Dragons specialization in a competitive environment, because we hate ele for generally being better players. This is not ok and our changes will fix that.

- buffed condition damage by 1% and nerfed power damage by 50%. We did this for PvE reasons, but haha I don't care not my problem, let's apply it to WvW as well just for fun. Don't play power specs!!! Only condition damage !!!

- we felt like elementalist could actually fight condition damage builds. This is not ok. We have removed antitoxin rune from WvW and reduced smothering aura cleanses to half of a cleanse per aura proc. Die to my condi mirage you peasant hahahaha don't try to be good at the game, get pigeonholed into cheese builds

- catalyst stability allowing eles to fight bad players who rely heavily on CC is problematic for bad players who rely heavily on CC. Nerfed staunch auras to provide 0.5s of stability per aura.

Let us know about your feedback and we will ignore it!

The amusing thing is that 'buff condi by 1% and nerf power by 50%' would still nerf condi builds since even with trailblazer there's probably still enough power damage in the mix that cutting it in half would be a net nerf.

I too have news.  I come from the year 2024.  Anet has released a new Elementalist spec!  I have good news and bad news.

Good news!  It is not rifle like you all feared.  It's dual pistols.
Bad news!  You know the movie Equilibrium?  It's a 100-range melee weaponset with gun-fu kata stances.

Oh, come now, that's being blatantly unfair. It's a mid-range weaponset. Sure, the autoattacks are all 130 range apart from the earth autoattack at 600 range, but a couple of the 2- and 3- slot skills on other attunements have ranges between 400 and 600, and there are also a lot of PBAOEs in the kit with radii of up to 360!

Additional changes:

Nerfed meteor shower again. We noticed staff elementalists were becoming the most popular builds in competitive play, as everyone and their cat seemed to be playing glass staff ele. Glass staff ele is too forgiving and easy to play, so we made it even more difficult. We don't want you to feel rewarded for putting in effort when you play our game; this might upset harbingers.

-meteor shower now has an initial power coefficient of 0.01 and will steadily decrease over time to 0.0001.

These changes won't make meteor shower much less powerful than it was beforehand, so staff eles should still feel meta-defining.

Following feedback we found that there is a further issue with the area of meteor shower and have reduced the radius of the skill to 120.
We also felt there were too many meteors and we have reduced this to a single projectile.

Additionally; we don't believe that the autoattack of Staff Elementalist is fitting for our vision of gameplay, and so we have reduced the projectile speed by half. We believe this is more in line with the other classes.

Additional change : since each staff's skill is thrown by hand (real fact, except air 2 and earth/air  3 with weaver), and not by the staff, using a staff is now equivalent to fight without a weapon equipped

new mechanic storm lord.

Every time you cast a spell you get the new 'storm lord' buff and receive 1 vitality and 1 armor point per cast up to a maximum of 24 points.  If you stop casting for more than 1.25 seconds the you receive the 'caught in the storm' debuff  and your health and armor is dropped by 50% for 5 seconds and your right and left controls are reversed ..but you get a 33% swiftness buff for 5 seconds too so you can run your kitten off.   Channelling a spell for more than 1.25 seconds triggers the 'caught in the storm' debuff

Developer notes : for this pass we wanted to reward elementalists for rewarding  spam play with a sustain buff that allows them to stand in the middle of a 5 on 5 fight on point in sPVP.

New change : we want to promote low intensity gameplay. Now, the elementalist will begin each fight in down state, having only 5 skills to manage now

15 minuts after patch :

- we are made aware that "Discharge Lightning" does to much damage. Since it's look like a pebble throw, this skill hit for 1 HP max now. 0,001% to make the next receiving skill miss, because sometime, the pebble can hit the eye of your enemy by chance.

- we are aware of a bug in "Vapor Form" : the form is no longer mobile and vaporous. We are looking to correct this bug as soon as possible

3 years later :

"vapor Form" => "Evaporated Form" :: correction of a wrong typo assuming that this form is mobile and vaporous.

Additional changes to catalyst:

Depth of elements passive trait now grants -10% to all  stats to compensate for the extra stats gained by elemental Empowerment.

Empowered empowerment now also grants -10% to all stats incase the player has less then 10 stacks.

Elemental epitome is also reworked: this trait now only grants an aura upon using an elite skill.

Changes to glyph of (lesser) elementals:

Glyph of elementals now only counts as an elite skill upon summoning elementals.

Whenever you mount up while having an elemental active the player will get the debuff "lol Elementalist is meta defining" which prohibits you from summoning elementals for 300 seconds.

Changes to Tempest:

Invigorating torrents now grants protection instead of vigor

Gathered focus no longer grants concentration. Now grants 33% extra protection duration instead.

Lucid singularity now grants protection instead of Alacrity.

Weaver:

Elements of rage:  Gain a bonus to all damage dealt for a period of time when attuned to a single element. Gain precision based on a percentage of your vitality

May 11 2021: Strike damage bonus reduced from 10% to 5%. Increases condition damage by 5%

Now:

we felt like putting a +conditiondamage% bonus on a vita to precision conversiontrait was a good thing, so we are gonna double up on it. All the Freshairs are gonna LOVE it.

Strike damage bonus removed. Increases conditiondamage by 10%. All those Freshairs gonna love it!

Elementalist
Scepter is a weapon that sees some play in PvE, but it struggles to find a place in competitive modes as a lot of its skills are less reliable or simply lacking in power. We've tuned up a lot of the weaker skills in the kit with the goal of solidifying scepter as an effective damage-dealing weapon.

Catalyst was hit hard by the last update to PvE, and we're making a few changes to bring it back up, removing the damage penalty from Spectacular Sphere and giving a bit more damage to Empowering Auras. We've also updated the behavior of the hammer's third-slot weapon skills to make the strikes more consistent and remove the difference in effectiveness between hitbox sizes.

On the PvP side, Earth Shield gets some defensive shaves, primarily targeting two of the most potent builds in the meta: catalyst and tempest. We've also made some minor improvements to condition-based weaver, a build that has fallen out of the meta in recent months.

Last up is a slight improvement to tempest's healing in WvW as we continue to work toward a more diverse set of support options.

Core

  • Dragon's Tooth: This skill now attaches to the target instead of being ground targeted. Using this skill with no target will cast a stationary spell at the user's location. Increased cooldown from 6 seconds to 8 seconds in PvP and WvW.
  • Phoenix: This skill now inflicts an additional stack of burning against enemies that are already burning. Reduced burning stacks from 2 to 1 in PvE only.
  • Ice Shards: Reduced aftercast by 170 milliseconds.
  • Shatterstone: This skill now inflicts chill instead of vulnerability and strikes enemies on the initial cast in addition to the explosion. Reduced explosion time from 1 second to 0.67 seconds. Reduced power coefficient from 1.66 to 1.0 in PvE, and from 1.5 to 0.6 in PvP and WvW.
  • Water Trident: This skill is no longer ground targeted, and instead it fires projectiles at the target and up to 2 nearby enemies. This skill no longer heals allies, and instead it heals the caster when striking an enemy. This skill now deals increased damage to chilled enemies. Increased ammunition from 1 to 2. Increased power coefficient from 0.5 to 1.6 in PvE and from 0.5 to 1.25 in PvP and WvW.
  • Lightning Strike: This skill now strikes up to 2 additional enemies near the target and inflicts vulnerability. Increased power coefficient from 1.2 to 1.5 in PvE only.
  • Blinding Flash: This skill now strikes up to 2 additional enemies near the target and inflicts weakness against vulnerable enemies. Increased ammunition from 1 to 2.
  • Rock Barrier: This skill now grants barrier and resistance to the user in addition to its other effects.
  • Hurl: Reduced delay between projectiles from 0.5 seconds to 0.2 seconds.
  • Dust Devil: This skill is now ground targeted and creates a spell that pulses three times. Enemies in the area are blinded by the initial strike, and bleeding enemies are crippled when struck.
  • Tectonic Shift: Reduced barrier pulse from 778 to 506 in PvP only.
  • Fortify: Increased cooldown from 30 seconds to 50 seconds in PvP only.
  • Stormsoul: The bonus damage from this trait will now always affect defiant foes.
  • Evasive Arcana: Fixed an issue that prevented this trait from triggering Flame Burst while dodging.

Tempest

  • Elemental Bastion: Increased heal attribute scaling from 0.4125 to 0.8 in WvW only.

Weaver

  • Shearing Edge: This skill now inflicts bleeding in addition to its other effects.
  • Twin Strike: Increased burning stacks from 1 to 2 in PvP only.
  • Flame Uprising: Increased burning duration from 4 seconds to 6 seconds in PvP only.

Catalyst

  • Hardened Auras, Empowering Auras, Staunch Auras, and Elemental Epitome: These traits will now only trigger when the catalyst grants an aura to themselves, rather than when gaining an aura from any player.
  • Flame Wheel, Icy Coil, Crescent Wind, Rocky Loop: These skills now strike enemies once per second instead of using a projectile. Increased power coefficient from 0.001 to 0.25 in PvE only.
  • Spectacular Sphere: This trait no longer reduces outgoing damage and causes Earth Sphere to grant aegis instead of resistance in PvE only.
  • Empowering Auras: Increased damage bonus per stack from 2% to 3% in PvE only.
