Next expansion weapon

For the next (and probably last) guardain elite specialization, that's coming who knows when, can we PLEASE get a shield main hand ?

The shields in this game have such beautiful and cool designs and it's a shame they just stand on your hand doing nothing most of the time.

Kind of surprised guardians can't hold a shield in the main hand already ( but elementalist kind of can instead ? ).

nah guardian already is fairly good at tanking. Id say give warrior dual shield. They would be far more likely to use a defensive item in an offensive way.

You're awfully sure about there being a next guardian elite specialization. I think it's more likely that we won't get any more elite specializations at all.

And in fact I hope there won't be anymore. They aren't able to balance the current ones properly as it is and I'd hate for another round of nerfs to the existing ones just to boost sales and usage of the new ones.

What I do hope is that the core classes will become their own elite specializations, with one of the current specs being elevated to an elite spec and thus becoming unavailable to the current elite specs (DH, FB, WB). For Guardian it could possibly be Zeal and the GS as the weapon related to it. Or Virtues with the hammer as the exclusive weapon.

I think that it might be easier (as in less resources) for Anet to adjust what already exists rather than make up something entirely new with entirely new balance issues. In fact it might be somewhat easier to balance elite specs by making one of the core specs unavailable to them.

New classes are the only thing that keep many players coming back to the game. Without a shiny new class to play every few years, I'm almost sure the game will start going downhill in popularity. Advancing core specs are fun to play with, but pale in comparison to the new concept, lore, weapons, skills, and mechanics that a new class offers.

The average player doesn't seem to care too much about the somewhat minor balance issues the game has either. Most classes are still fun to play and can get through 90% of the game's content which is better than many other games, I've played.

I do think they should tighten up competitive balance, as a personal opinion. Although I'm not sure how much that would affect the game's success.

There's also the aspect that while guardian has been fairly well off in this regard, some professions have been shortchanged pretty hard in the elite specialisations they've received. Stopping now would be being pretty unfair to professions that have had melee-oriented specialisations every time despite encounter design increasingly asking for at least some range, or to professions that were never given a support elite spec.

Arenanet isn't committing to a set of elite specs with each mini-expansion, and I don't blame them if the plan is to have a faster rate than one every two years. But AFAIK they've never said anything to indicate that elite specialisations aren't working for them.

(Also, anyone who thinks that the state of EoD elite specs is an indication that ArenaNet is running out of ideas is looking back on HoT and PoF post-release with serious rose-tinted glasses.)

If we ever get a new guardian spec, I'd be happy to see a rifle spec. Don't really know how it could work out with a symbol on there, maybe you fire a bullet on the ground in front of your target. Could base the spec on blinding applications and give the Guardian a lot of shadow fields, then obviously it looks a lot like a deadeye. It isn't easy having no overlaps at this point. You could match this with venom utilities or make the Virtues work like venoms (just call them something else to fit guardian)

It's becoming really difficult to make new specs. Some classes still have obvious themes to explore, some others not so much. A corruption-themed spec for guard with dagger or rifle would be fun. Symbols now strip boons/apply conditions instead of boons, virtues become vices...

Why last? Are they working on GW3?

Most likely due to some hiring for a undisclosed game by arena over the past year or two.

Means guild wars 2 is effectively in maintence mode as definitely shows by the change in direction from fully fleshed out expansions and game additions to smaller patches just to not have the game become completely stagnant.

  • 2 weeks later...

Mark my words: It will be open the spec weapons (and maybe utilities) to the whole class. Is cheap (they already have the animations and skills), is easier to balance (generaly, a long bow won't be as powerful in a core Guardian or a spec with no long bow trait lines) and would add variety and deep to the choices currenty available (a core dps guardian will work better with axe, which has damage and cc, than just using the sword).

And I'm fine with it: if they can't make FB work in PvP then let me use the axe with other specs.
