What are you looking forward to the most in SotO?

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited to helping my mom with her Skyscale since she's really the only family member I have who enjoys this game with me. Of course, I'm looking forward to the new masteries.

On another note, I'm looking forward to see how they're going to try and change up the combat. And I think the new system for rewards sounds cool since I'm trying to get better at time management.

Personally found strikes just as hard as raids myself...

The issue is that raids have something strikes do not have: Lore.

When W2 was released noone was expecting to find what we found on the final boss, nor the direction that everything took later on. The way of how the 4th raid wing was exposed was phenomenal, White Mantle doing the idiot with forces they don't understand provoking a blast, revealing at the same time a portal that should habe been hidden essentially forever and sending the player to somewhere he was never expecting to go.

Strikes essentially are a hard version of a main story instance, unless you go with the CM, there's nothing new to see once you can get in. And as of now, they have A LOT of  things that ended up "in the air" when it comes to lore, to begin with, Balthazar curses all other gods, all except one, it wouldn't be a bad idea to allow the players to use the fractal lobby (Fractal raids in this case) and see and live things of the past, like for example GW1 raids like the Foundry of Failed Creations or uncover why Balthazar doesn't curse Lyssa, if it's either because Lyssa helped him or because she was the only one that thought that jailing him on the mists was not a good idea.

They have all the resources at their hands, the only thing they need to do is use them, but it's better saying "Raids were not recieved as well as we expected" and ignore all the mistakes made.

I look forward to a breath of fresh air since they had me at "...commander on a journey absent their usual comrades." Finally a break from them. 😛

I also look forward to petting some cute Kryptis's.

and maybe I'll be able to find ancient secrets in the tower on how I can resurrect the one true god; Abaddon; our Lord and Savior who died for our sins, to save us all from the void.

Indeed. I enjoy strikes but they feel like a minigame disconnected from lore and storytelling, like a jumping puzzle.

From the little we are getting, I am looking forward to the masteries the most.
I expect the story to last forfour hours and I am still very disapointed in the whole relic bs. I already have three legy armors, so the new ones will not keep me occupied, the new weapons we're getting instead of specialisations won't do much for me.

Relics sound real interesting to me.

Beyond that I just hope for some fun quality content. No loops and hoops, no wasting player time, no strange additions that dont really belong, just straightforward fun. Something that gw2 used to be the best at but lately has been dropping the ball a bit.

Quite excited to play with relics. I hope there are some interesting gameplay-changing ones. This is probably the feature I'm most excited for.

Weapon access across all specs is really interesting to me. Really excited for stuff like dagger and staff on Untamed due to the unique skills that come with them. There are also some combos that just sound like a ton of fun, like hammer on Tempest and Soulbeast.

I'm eager to see how the new weapons play as well. Hope we can get some previews on what those skills will be later this year.

I don't know if it would be possible to do, but TECNICALLY, since they used DirectX 9 to do the game, it should be possible to copy/paste a raid from GW1 to GW2. It would need some changes here and there, but it should work, and unless the step from Dx9 to Dx11 changes A LOT, it shouldn't be a big issue aswell simply copy/paste the raid and later on optimize it to move to Dx11.

Also, leaving the graphics as they are on GW1 would be a good reference to "You are in the past" xD

I think the reason they went away from raids is precisely because of story. That is, putting the same amount of effort into writing and presenting story for a game mode that is ignored by a sizeable percentage of players as you would the main story that everyone plays through, doesn't make a lot of sense. Aside from difficulty, one complaint about putting story in raids is that it is gated behind being able to find a group, which is not true of the main story.

Now, could you add an accessible single-player story mode for raids, with easy versions of the bosses, and that simplifies or removes some mechanics? Sure. Of course, there is still another issue, and that is that story gets in the way of high-replayability content. Whether it's because you wiped over and over, or just because you are grinding the same thing yet another time for weekly rewards, being bothered with a lot of exposition you have already been through, especially if it delays the action, is like an unskippable cutscene before a hard boss fight. Very annoying.

Now, you could solve that problem too -- just leave all the unskippable exposition for the story-mode version of the raid that everyone sees (but probably only once on a character unless they want some achievements). And cut the more repeatable hard-mode version down to just the boss fights and rewards. And... that's where we are with Strike Missions. Of course, there is less story overall, since the raid story and the main story are merged into one thing. But less story content in general is a different complaint.

Nothing currently, need to play the game to know if I've made the correct purchase.

BTW
Do any of you remember the time when ArenaNet decide to remake the entire Sylvari Race because they look too much like elf etc etc,  and that how we have our awesome Sylvari Race, an entire new race in the mythical world, When I see Wizard mention, it just made me fell like meh... a wizard, really? After all that we been thru awesome story , we are getting a Wizard ....

When did they remake the entire sylvari race to not be like elfs? cos ive been around since before the launch and heard nothing about it.

Tho having sylvari more customization to look more like Elfs or characters from Avatar (the film) would be benefitial since people would like it more than being restricted to have plant as body and hair.

You have that first concept art.

Edit: my bad, it was the Pale Tree who was first seen by the community in a convention, printed on a card.

And the first trailer:

I remember GW1 hinted at Sylvari being elves.. real elves and then we got tree people and i lost interest pretty much ever since.. That and charr in GW1 were way better as enemies, than what we got these days.. Fluffy doggo demons aren't for me sadly..

I am glad Asura got hair though so that was a plus.

I’m just not sure Zojja  is going to feel like that much of a breath of fresh air from Taimi.

Shes kinda just the older, crankier version.

That gibbering mouther thing in the promo materials is pretty creepy.

Funny, I’ve got three Asura characters, every one of them bald. I can’t seem to find a hair style that doesn’t look like a goblin wearing a wig.

The initial concept art had them looking like green elves. There was some community pushback. They released a blog post specifically about redesigning the Sylvari to look more like plant creatures.

My god they did an awfull job then. I myself and probably loots of people would have prefered to play something more elf/avatar than a plant lol

PD: I cant open the weblink, is there any other source?

Just googled the last part of said link.

Ah, neat trick. I thought you could only find it on the internet archive since ANet redid their site, but the designer herself hosts a copy!

As someone who saturated myself in Tolkien derivative fantasy from a very young age, I’m glad we didn’t just end up with green elves. The Sylvari we have are much more unique, and I have more characters of them than any other race because of the sheer variety of designs I can make. I also love the bioluminescence.

I expect if the Charr had been made to look like stereotypical cat people, they would have appealed to a wider range of players, too, but GW2 would have been poorer for it.

That was a way better Lions Arch and Rata Sum.
