[SUGESTION] multiple ways to get GIFT OF BATTLE [Merged]

Honestly, they should allow -all- gifts to be obtainable through any game mode.
WvWers and PvPers should be able to craft legendaries without ever having to set foot in PvE if t hey don't want to.
Same goes for PvE players. I don't like pvp, I don't like wvw. I should be able to create Gift of Battle through other means than having to pvp/wvw.

I finished crafting Vision just a few days ago and had to finish the WvW track for Gift of Battle. I mean it was ok, it was fun to re-visit WvW again but then I got bored of it really quick and was just waiting for those pips/ticks to fill up so I could finally get my Gift.
I just don't like it and I hate being forced into it as a PvE player.

I imagine WvWers and PvPers are fed-up of having to do world exploration etc to get the Gift of Exploration too. Imo, Gift of Exploration should be obtainable through those other means too.
Just my two cents here. Let players choose how they want to play.

  • Forum Moderator.3419 changed the title to [SUGESTION] multiple ways to get GIFT OF BATTLE [Merged]

I agree that being "forced" to play a gameplay mode one doesn't enjoy just to get the most out of their gameplay experience otherwise isn't fun. Competitive players may find map completion for Gifts of Exploration boring, and those who prefer PvE may dislike WvW/PvP for any number of reasons. (Personally I don't like getting attacked by other players while minding my own business. I also don't like the thought of me being the person "clogging up" the WvW queue while I go around escorting dolyaks for hours on end while someone who actually enjoys WvW is stuck waiting for me, or someone like me, to leave WvW already and let them in.)

One solution I've seen tossed around, and I agree with it, is to implement these as rewards via Wizard's Vault. I've done a bit of thinking about this in particular and I'd like to propose this:

  • Create a "pick" item available via Wizard's Vault for 1000 Astral Acclaim (adjust as necessary, but I think a fairly high cost is valid).
  • This pick item allows players to select one of either Gift of Battle or Gift of Exploration. Other similar items could also be implemented into this pick item, if appropriate.
  • Limit availability to one per Wizard's Vault rotation.
  • Therefore, players can buy either one Gift of Battle or one Gift of Exploration, but not both.
  • This enables meaningful player choice and still keeps players in either game mode, performing the afformentioned tasks of completing a Gift of Battle reward track or doing map completion, but helps ease the pain a bit for those who would much rather avoid game modes they may not enjoy.
  • Additionally, this helps eliminate the need for an alt for an additional Gift of Exploration, if desired (though again, players will have to choose between this or Gift of Battle).

In the meantime, I will still be using my Ascended weapons. But to see something like the above implemented could mean I could make effective effort on certain weapon achievements that I'd rather complete myself.

No thanks, gift of battle is a good motivation to get into WvW. I don’t see a reason to change anything about it.

You are not forced to do anything you don’t want. Legendary weapons are not a necessity they are purely optional.

This is precisely why I used """quotation marks""" around the word "forced." I am fully aware of that and have even stated at the end of my post that I can stick with my Ascended weapons.

But as it is right now, I have two options for legendary weapons: pay big chunks of gold for them off the trading post, or do WvW. Which is "forcing" me into WvW if I feel the need to complete those weapons, if paying big chunks of gold outright isn't interesting.

You can ALWAYS just treat WvW as PvE by doing nothing more than flipping camps while listening to [your favourite podcast or radio show here]. I do that and I barely even see any players from the other teams. And if there is someone particularly intent on killing me, I just let them. I mean, we both know how this will go so why struggle? I'll just jump on the other Alpine map and flip camps there, no big deal. Honestly, lots of PvE players complaining about this don't understand just how easy it is to get through a reward track (and pick up some other loot in the process) while using up LESS ENERGY than it'd take in PvE. Flipping camps in WvW is about as chill as this game gets.

I've developed a habit of using WvW to unlock elite specs as well, in cases when I don't want to have my new chars go to Maguuma ahead of the story.

For me, it's the Gift of Battle. It's pretty much unobtainable for me. While I actually used to enjoy PVP and WVW, I'm physically unable to do either these days. Being a computer worker and a gamer, I vastly overdid it with my computer hours and am now suffering the consequences (despite ergonomically seat, workplace, pauzes etc...  overdoing it is overdoing it). So now I simply can't do the twitch of PVP or the hours required for WvW.

A long time ago, you could buy the Gift of Battle using WvW tokens. I never managed to loot precursors in those days, so I never thought to buy them in bulk. And then the system was changed. I still have some 14K of those tokens, and nothing to spend them on...

So yes, giving an alternative route through the Wizard's Vault would be nice. Especially because at some point I did start looting precursors... and then came the Vault starter kits, to make things worse. Plenty of ingredients, but no Gifts of Battle to actually make a legendary.

Sigh.

But you don't have to do the hours in one go; you can spread them over as long a period as you are comfortable with. You can earn plenty of progress in WvW doing PvE stuff. The best part is your participation level does not diminish in between sessions, so once you hit the top tier, it's easy to stay at that level just by flipping a camp or the like every ten minutes. You can chill back at spawn in between times.

Was about to say this^^
No need to sit through it in one go because participation doesn't reset between sessions. With boosters running filling the reward track takes about 8 hours, maybe 10 if you consider getting up to tier 6 participation and maybe not having all boosters available at all times. Getting participation is also not tied to actually playing the game mode, i.e. the PvP portion of it. As has been mentioned many times, flipping camps, killing dolyaks or taking guard posts all count towards participation. Finally, tagging along a zerg, even if you die a lot and have to rerun, also counts. So if it's just the participation, i.e. the track progress that counts, that is also a valid option.

I hate this topic. I want something but don't want to do the something to get it therfore the game should change to cater to me.

Fine, jumping is against my role play.  I demand that the devs give me a portal to skip the jp's because I paid for the game so I should be able to get my AP without doing something I hate. All legendaries should be on the TP because the 2nd gen make me quest and I hate reading due to being an American. The pvp gizmo is the best fashion in the game I shouldn't have to pvp and deal with dying and toxic people. I should be able to do some open quest for it, wait I hate reading so maybe just put it on the TP or better yet the Wizard's Vault.

Anet has already shown precedent for removing grind in favour of providing QoL improvements for some items via the WV (Legendary Starter Kit namely, which is pretty big IMO, skipping a bunch of "questing" and all). What's one more in the same vein? Or should they remove several things in the WV because they're all obtainable through other ingame means? Should Transmutation Charges be removed? Gold? Vision Crystals? Crafting Bags? They're all so easy to get, just like Gift of Battle and Gift of Exploration! Just go play the content! Only takes a few hours!

Oh, and "my American friend," if you need help with a jumping puzzle, I'll gladly provide you a portal.

It's exactly the "what's one more thing going to change" approach that is slowly but surely going to erode away everything that could remotely count for accomplishment in this game. It's just one more thing, what does it matter. Sell the GoB and GoE on the TP. It's just one more thing. Why not sell them on the gemshop? It's just one more step. Hand the whole legendary out when reaching Lvl80. It's just one more piece of QoL, right? Give each player 1k gold opun character chreation. It's just one more step, it's just pixels, it doesn't matter. Confetti Infusions for everyone, all the time, as many as they want. It's just one item, it doesn't matter.

A lot of what you said can already be bought with gold though. "Just one more thing" already happened in some ways.

Nobody cares about your or mine or anyone else's accomplishments in a video game. You should care about yours, if you desire, but why should you care about mine or Joe Smith's? It's a game. A lot of things can be bought already via Gem Shop, in the sense of "swipe card, convert gems to gold, go shopping," including most completed legendary weapons, and your precious confetti, as well as carries through raids (make your ring or Envoy armour for the low, low price of...) and other things I'm sure.

GoB and GoE have finite use, so why not allow players to sell them if they desire? If I want, I can roll a dozen alts and do map completion, but I have no use for GoE, so they'll just rot in my bank I guess? Why not reward my hard work? (I'm sorry, "hard work," it's just a few hours grinding in a game anyway.)

As for your 1k gold... well, go for it. It'll just shuffle the market around a bit and then everything will stabilize after based on the 1k gold influx everyone got.

Exactly, so implement my changes...

Also I don't want you to portal me. I have a social anxiety disorder and do not want to interact with other players. It is one of big reasons gw2 is the perfect game. Playing alone together.

I can't implement them, for I'm not Anet. But maybe they'll give you a portal device. I don't see what's bad about that, I can still refuse to use it and run the puzzles myself. And if I see you along the way, maybe I'll give you a portal without you asking. Feel free to ignore it though. I find it odd that G2 legendaries aren't tradable but the G1 and G3 legendaries are, so sure, whatever. Stick 'em on the TP. I'm not sure what PvP gizmo you're referring to so I can't speak to that.

And I assume you're already American, so Anet doesn't need to do anything here. Oh, and for your social anxiety... *Spongebob voice* well, good luck with that.

And this here is exactly the reason why I dislike posting on forums.
People refuse to look from a different perspective and -realize- that it is a GAME that should be FUN and not a JOB.

Legendaries are -convenience- on top of beautiful cosmetics.

I am not good with PvP, I likely drag other people down. I don't like roaming in WvW because others just trample me and get me unless I team up with a comm and join the zerg, which I personally dislike because it's zerg vs zerg and snoozy.

I'm also taking both sides into play here. PvPers and WvWers likely dislike PvEing as well, so they shouldn't be pushed to map completion to get Gift of Exploration if they don't want to. Let them obtain it through WvW/PvP.

And the 'you don't have to do it' is just a ridiculous statement. Of course people want legendaries and it was ridiculous to remove that medal vendor who sold Gift of Battle to begin with.
RN we have a huge legendary skip through Wizard's Vault as mentioned, and people are fine with it, but you mention Gift of Battle and everyone loses their mind cause 'You MUST WvW if you WANT a legendary otherwise you are unworthy!'.
This is 2nd time I get Gift of Battle ever since medal vendor got removed and need I say, it wasn't fun at all and it makes me nauseous whenever I think of Gift of Battle xD

EDIT:
FYI even jumping puzzles are something you can easily and quickly finish with a helpful mesmer. Meanwhile you gotta spend 10 hours doing WvW to get gift of battle. 10/10

Giving real criticism as to something is bad it's difficult apparently. It's better to come up with strawman arguments or spam confused emojis.

I have yet to see an argument on why it's a bad idea to put the gifts on the WV or make them sellable on the TP. I mean, you'd still have to work for them. Oh right, because then you won't have newbies in WvW to stomp and have to fight more people of similar skill, gotta feed PvErs into the grinder so you have more of that "content" you keep desiring.

Oh wait, WvWers can skip a lot of the LW achievements and earn cosmetics that would otherwise require you to do 16 achievs per episode.

Oh wait, they also have the easiest legendary armor acquisition method.

Oh wait, they can buy stat-selectable exotic gear for cheap and not have to pay 100 gold for viper's gear.

You have no right to complain.

It is a good motivation to step into WvW and try the game mode. I got into WvW when I need the gift of battle for my first legendary and stayed ever since.

There are other forms of motivation already present. Cosmetics. Exotic gear. Among others.

Also, 4 hours playing a gamemode I dislike is a pain.  As someone else mentioned, this is a game, not a job. Which is why putting the gifts in the WV was suggested, you'd still have to work for it, but you wouldn't be restricted to a gamemode you dislike.

You REALLY do NOT want to open the can of worms that is benefits PvE players have over WvW. Like as in get off your entitled horse and look at the game as a whole and you will realize, 90% of this game is catering to the PvE open world crowd. Want me to name a few? Legendary items on slots only available via massive PvE investments, majority of Wizard Vault special objectives are entirely PvE based, massive amounts of achievements and account unlocks are stictly PvE based, way higher gold/hour rewards, far more cosmetics, nearly ALL content development, balance around PvE content which spills over into the competitive modes and the list goes on.

As to a good reason: encourage players try WvW. Why? So that the mode sees influx of players while being neglected development wise. Why? Because the experience shows that some of those players enjoy the mode and stick around. That is of more value to the developers than giving the few complaining PvE players a way out.

You want the reward, you play the content. Lucky enough, by now that time investment has shrunk to as little as 2-4 hours. The same is not true for WvW players which are interested in legendaries for which they require PvE btw.

EDIT:

or better yet, you want the reward and not play the content, buy the legendary off the TP. The higher gold/hour from PvE makes even that easier for PvE players versus WvW players.

You want to complain about GoB via WvW, fine, but don't you dare make WvW out to be that far more beneficial game mode. Even open world legendary armor beats WvW legendary armor out now as far as time to acquire goes (and don't gimme any bs on this, I crafted all the legendary sets, I know how long each of them take, yes even the 3 ow legendary armor sets on release day).

Legendary equipments are not a option when you enjoy playing endgame PvE content. Anet patches many times a year impacting rotations, builds and equipments. Players involved in a static usually maintain 10 or more builds they have to modify regularly to adapt to each encounter/patch.

Playing the game in that way is optional by itself.

Therefore, that perceived, self-imposed reliance on legendary gear for that way of playing is purely optional as well.
