Studio Update: Guild Wars 2 in Autumn and Winter 2023

Recommended Posts

I’ve been working as hard as I can towards my legendary armor. I’m going to do light. Of the known ingredients, I’ve worked for two pieces so far.

I hope the new content is such that I’m able to play it with my favorite character and not be unwelcome. Other than a few trinkets, the only other legendary I ever got was Bifrost. Been playing for 11 years, but some things were never in the “that’s for me” bucket until now. Crossing my fingers. 😊

Oh that's a good point.  I hope I can just walk in with my open world build that I enjoy and have fun.  I suspect this will be the case.

Also I'm happy for you working on your legendary armor (I'm working on mine too), and hope for the best!

I expect the rifts...sorry I mean convergences to be on par with dragon stand. In that regard I expect them to be doable with almost any build, but there will also be 250Li LFG's to minmax the whole thing.

I admire your optimism, but if you are genuinely thinking Fissure of Woe style here, I think a immediate hope check is in order.

I am expecting Forging Steel or DRM style at best. Maybe something like Battle for LA. It’ll be reusing whatever tech they already have built since that is what makes the most development sense with the reduced team and focus.

Hey, one can dream. 😉 Just imagine how cool it would be if those Convergences were big(ger) maps with different types of demonic encounters and puzzles of sorts.

Yes, yes, I know: hope check. 😄

Operating under "One can dream", a neat idea would be:
- 10-player dungeons/fractals
- maybe 5 different maps
- each map can "provide" one of four different scenarios (escort mission, capture the point, hold the point, kill the boss)
- each scenario takes about the same amount of time and has roughly the same level of difficulty on each map
- map and scenario are chosen at random upon entering the instance
- new variants of kriptis, but also non-kriptis mobs depending on scenario
- mobs don't drop loot, all loot is rewarded at the end and is not dependand on map or scenario

One can dream, right...

Grab that hope and crush it between both hands!

Then stamp on it for good measure 😉

Very interesting concept! 🙂

Curious to see what the devs came up with (if anything worth mentioning 😄).

In sure it's going to be fun. They're on a roll with SotO.

...as proven by the current Rift Hunt events, which are mind-numbingly boring? 😉

Yes, SotO is fun regarding story and map design, but these particular events are the opposite of fun.

A bit worried about the need for squads for the "Convergences" as a casual PvE player who enjoys base game dungeons and not needing a huge 30+ person squad to do them...
I only just managed to do Tower of Nightmares for the first time (since when I started playing, LWS1 wasn't around...) And after that I was really, REALLY thankful that ANET had learned and never pushed that kind of content to be necessary for the story again. I'm hoping the "Convergences" aren't just another "Raid Lite"- because I know I'm not the only casual player who can't even manage strikes.
If most of our experiences with Nayos are going to just be in these "Convergences"... sigh...

Tower of Nightmares (and by extension, Battle for Lion's Arch and Twisted Marionette) was designed pre-HoT, when the endgame was a lot more focused on difficult high-end open world content, since this was at a time when neither raids nor strikes existed, and dungeons weren't really "difficult" (aside from maybe one or two paths like Aetherblades, and in Arah)

So for the most part the content was designed for experienced players intimately familiar with the game and its mechanics, and the challenge reflected that (there weren't really CMs at the time, either - the content itself was difficult enough without additional challenge)

This design philosophy is especially apparent in HoT's Heart of Maguuma, where roaming elites and hero point challenges can easily kill players less expefienced or not in groups

After raids came out, and fractals got more challenging additions in Season 3 (like Chaos, Sunqua, etc.), there was less of a push to focus the super challenging content in the open world itself, and that's why PoF's Elona and onwards you notice that the enemies aren't quite as punishing for solo players and such - this only became more prominent after strikes were released in IBS

So no, I dont think you have to worry about convergences being super super difficult and punishing for more casual players - Arenanet has given us a wide variety of content since LWS1, ranging from casual to hardcore, and LWS1 reflects a design philosophy that has since shifted over the years

Do I think convergences will be braindead easy? No, of course not. But if you head in with a group or stick with other players you'll probably find that they'll end up easy enough for anyone to complete, as they're intended to be accessible to the general, casual audience of the game

go ahead surprise me with putting something unique on the table with convergences.

I sure hope they will. Otherwise, as it already is, the Obsidian Armor legendaries will prove to have the most mind-numbingly boring and aggravating method of acquisition one can think of.

WvW/PvP set = just play the content you like and you will get it; easy
Raid PvE set = such a diverse variety of PvE tasks and challenges to acquire these; I was having a blast with its collections
OW PvE set = the level of boredom doing Rifts is beyond any other grind in this game (especially considering the fact that GW2's open world has so much more to offer...)

Nope not going to post another negative comment but yeah go ahead surprise me with putting something unique on the table with convergences.

And? We're waiting :))
Honestly, I've done it twice now and it could have been a lot worse, It's not a hassle. (squads were organised)
