phs.6089
I wonder what people think. If Arena start to sell elite spec DLC packs for those that don't care of story, maps etcJuts a DLC that will unlock elits for account? Obviously fully unlocked trait lines as there would be no maps to earn those. So what do you think, would it be a good idea or no?
Inculpatus cedo.9234
It would not be of interest to me; I'd rather have the maps, etc. (which would be there, anyway, for all those that didn't avail themselves of the faster option).
Dawdler.8521
Yeah, totally, lets have Anet sell single elite specs for $9.99 each instead! That's totally worth it compared to the $29.99 full PoF. More cheap microtransactions for the people, yay! There cant possibly be any downsides with this right? Cheaper is cheaper!

maddoctor.2738
Depending on the pricing this could be a good thing for PVP, unlocking the elite specs only when you are in the Heart of the Mists. I mean why would someone that is interested in PVP have to pay full price, they don't need the maps, only the elite specs to stay competitive. Why would a PVE player even want to unlock just the elite specs? Further, unlocking the elite specs is a reason to populate the PVE maps during the release window, and it's one extra reason to keep the maps played in the future. Why would they remove that option? If you unlocked the elite specs on your account (not only in the Mists) it would make it significantly more expensive since it's an account unlock while being just for PVP, would keep the price really low. Would it work on all your current AND your future characters? For WVW it's a bit more tricky I guess because in WVW you use PVE gear.
anduriell.6280
From this business perspective it does not make sense to have the new maps locked behind expansions, at least not anymore. With the mounts Anet brought new items to the gem store, items that can not be brought by people without PoF expansion, namely mounts skins. As such Anet is losing potential income from people which don't want to upgrade (for whatever reason) but could have brought a cheap 400 gems mount license.Same goes for the glider skins. The released expansion brings an influx of cash, however those last just for a month or so. I think is the way to go, release 19$ DLC expansions with the 9 new specialisations, and release the new features with the living world. The releases should be more fluid as we would have the full work force working the actual game instead in the next expansion and also would allow to organise better the workforce to develop full polished classes, patch and fix existing ones.. etc. I don't know, when in the anniversary Anet let us know they were thinking to change the business model to living world instead expansions in my mind it made sense. Omega.6801
When it comes bundled with, you know, an expansion. With maps, a new story, some new skins and a new gimmick like I'm used to, I'd buy it for sure.
Danikat.8537
I would be willing to pay for elite specs I want, but under this system I'm unlikely to buy them separately because the maps and the story are the main thing that interests me in the expansions. If Anet started selling each part of an expansion separately and it was cheaper to buy just the parts I wanted then the whole thing together then I might do that, but it seems unlikely.I can definitely see the appeal for PvP-only players. It would be like the skill unlock packs they sold for GW1 which gave PvP characters and heroes access to all the skills you'd normally unlock by doing quests so they didn't have to play PvE or buy an entire new campaign to get them. One potential problem I see with this system is unless you blindly follow meta builds and just use whatever they tell you to use you may not know which elite specs you want until you've tried them and if you have to buy them first you may never get the chance to find out. For example I wasn't expecting to like the druid spec on ranger. I tried it because ever since ground-targeted traps were removed I'd been unable to find a 3rd utility skill I really liked and I thought one of the glyphs might work. I had no interest in it beyond that 1 skill and I certainly wouldn't have paid for it just for that but having tried it I found I really liked it, even some of the stuff I wasn't interested in.That makes me think it would only really be beneficial for PvP players and only if it was buying a full set of elite specs as a pack instead of having to buy the whole expansion. TokenG.7863
No, because balance always changes specs. They would be OP till everyone bought it, then it would get nerfbat. Then a new elite would pop up and the cycle would repeat. no thanks.

phs.6089
Wait, wait. Elite specs as a separate DLC.Lets say we have PoF all inclusive-29.99 in a bad day.And we have DLC that will unlock Elits, all of them, introduced by PoF but no maps for 10.99I understand people interested in story/maps/raids would buy full pack and have. But would the people that bough PoF for elites only or didn't buy any expac go for DLC that will unlock elit specs if there was such an offer? Deimos.4263
No. If people pay real money specifically for an elite spec vs. one included in an expansion and it then gets nerfed, the howling will be unbearable.
SloRules.3560
I would still buy whole expansion, just because, i've been with GW since 2006 or something. But if they released elite specs in addition to expansions, i would buy them wholehartedly, as i find the only really good thing about expansions are elite specs, most of other stuff is tbh, an aftertaught for me. yann.1946
I think it would be bad for 2 reasonsEither it instantly unlocks the complete spec without HP which would introduce a lot of p2w complaines. Or it wouldn't come with the full unlock which would almost make them meaningless. (only usefull in pvp) This on top of the p2w complaines that would surface in general
