  • Judging by their titles, it seems like it will be a whole story by itself maybe unrelated to the current Icebrood Saga chapters?

  • Sounds interesting!

I'm just a bit confused: are these chapters a continuation of the story (as "final arc" suggests)? Or more like side stories that we can play, similar to Visions of the Past? Calling them chapter 1, 2, 3 etc. makes it look like the beginning of something, and not a continuation of the current story :)

These are likely the main chapters of the story, considering they come out every other month with festivals in between. I do hope eventually there'll be more Visions of the Past, especially if it includes more of LWS1. Other than that, I'm looking forward to it and seeing where we're heading to.

  • Im curious as t what type of content these chapters will be all about, because if its just open world and story, my login button will not be pressed till after may

Are we gonna play from the viewpoint of Ryland's Warband again like in Forging Steel?

If I play a stupid build, I deserve to die.
If I beat people on a stupid build, I deserve to get away with it.

Why is this a new set of chapters? I'm just curious.

Following this "season" with its different arcs, it's just to differentiate that this is the final arc with its own sub chapters, that play off what happened before, but are still entirely separate.

  • I'm reading this as The Icebrood Saga: Champions story chapter, which itself is divided into 4 chapters. So I don't think these are side stories but instead a continuation of the main storyline.

So this is basically a yes to that.

"The Icebrood Saga: Champions is a multichapter Living World finale featuring new story, repeatable gameplay content, rewards, achievements, and masteries. In the weeks between releases, each chapter will continue to evolve with new content and ways to play."

  • A little disapointed that we must wait until 17 november for the next chapter but, seems that these new chapters will bring a lot of fun.

I'm really curious about all this new things, mastery, reward etc.

Until then, take care of you all. :)

Or what we got so far was “Book 1” of the saga and this is “Book 2”.

Agreed. My interpretation is it's kind of like when TV shows do a two-part episode, but with more parts. So it's one episode split into 4 'chapters', hopefully because it's big enough to justify 4 seperate releases. Although I'm not sure why they don't just call them 4 seperate episodes. Maybe it will make more sense once the first part is out?

  • With the new masteries, could you avoid mastery points behind gold sinks (such as in No Quarter). To clarify, gold sink achievements are fine but should not be associated with mastery points.

I think it's to make it feel like a big finale. One episode but with a story so extensive you need 4 chapters to tell it all. Or maybe it focuses on a character per episode, like each episodes deals with a champion hero or villain. Or both. Can't wait to find out, though. Even though the storytelling isn't always to write home about, I'm always curious to see where they're taking it next.

"The Icebrood Saga‘s conclusion will be felt throughout Tyria—even across the seas." This makes me feel it will tie in to the next expansion. Which may even give us a hint on a possible release period for EoD? If so, it's sooner than I expected.

Nice to see some form of communication and info about future.
On the other hand, another name change for LS to create even more confusion, with no explanation whatsoever given behind it?
I mean, is there any other reason (besides confusing is) you couldn;t stick to old season/episode numbering?

They are sticking to the old episode numbering. The episode is called The Icebrood Sage: Champions. It's just that this one is divided into 4 Chapters. There is no change in either naming or numbering here.

Btw, they update the inventory too. Now we have 3 icons (one for deposit material, the other one to compact and last to put in highlighting rarety of the items). didn't see the update log before write that

What I'm confused about is how people are confused about the Chapters. It is clearly the "finale" of Icebrood Saga set up in multiple parts. Very much like Bjora and Drizzlewood were.

Unless you’re a completionist, you don’t need to do any of the achievements that require you to spend a lot of gold. There are also enough excess mastery points which allow you to skip them as well.

So I quit gw2 like 2 months ago, but I had hopes to come back soon.
But after seeing the roadmap into year 2021, there is literally no reason to come back for me. No WvW changes, No PvP changes, only PvE story content I do not care about. Whole Story is kinda boring executed.
I believe many other players are disappointed as well.
I don't even know, if I will return for the next expansion like this. There is no love from the devs for WvW or PvP players. It's honestly just sad. Devs are not even pretending, that PvP or WvW exist.

The last few chapters have felt a little low on the options for mastery points . By not locking it behind gold we are helping new players. Helping new players helps the community.

BTW if I say its okay to have them without mastery points then being a completionist isn't the issue. I thought that would have been obvious with the clarification but perhaps I need to say it even more bluntly.

The mastery points are season saga wide. There are more than enough available from previous episodes to not require spending gold. This excess number of mastery points is likely to increase with further episodes chapters such as the ones mentioned in the announcement. .

PvP lmao. As if that last minuscule balance patch, that came after 14-15 weeks, was not an indication of Anet attention to PvP. I do not expect more than 4-5 balance patches from here till the fall of next year. And these patches will be relatively small, and mostly of no significance. And then we will have the next expansion, assuming no delays.

Well it's communication at last. This chapter system is just making things needlessly messy though.

Why are they chapter now, not episodes? Is this LS6? What's the explanation? Have you ditched LS5 without really exploring the story in further depth? Are we still getting maps? What happened to Visions of the Past?

Northern Shiverpeaks is ripe for exploration and hope we will be exploring most of it. Please don't waste the chance

Yeah, maps is my main concern too. Exploring new places and uncovering more of the world is easily my favorite thing to do, I'll be incredibly sad if we don't see more of the north with this story, and if we have to wait until after May to see any new maps (if not here we'll have to wait for the next expansion to explore again?!). Fortunately anet seems to value exploration as well and they know how much it matters, so I imagine the world map will be expanded in some way. If not new maps, maybe extensions to old ones (didn't they mention this idea? but they haven't done it).

I'd rather keep going.. wherever the wind takes us

Yeah this is just Icebrood Saga episodes 5, 6, 7, and 8. They're labeled in such a way as to closely link them is all, because apparently they'll go together more closely than the average living world episode. Who knows what the story will be, but we already know they will be linked together by the new dragon minion missions thing

Well this Road Map was pretty useless to me. Also there’s nothing “ high-level”, about these Living stories you have coming up if they’re so spaced out. I would’ve rather we get more info on the expansion, preferably a teaser on new elite specializations.

  • Think of this as episode 5, the final episode of Icebrood Saga, but divided into 4 parts, or chapters. My guess we will have a huge amount of map around eye of the north to explore and it gets built upon with each chapter? Maybe other maps of tyria get used as part of the story? Who knows.

And compared to previous expansions/seasons we still have fewer extra, meaning we have fewer choices. Perhaps the next part of the saga will rain down mastery points but it doesn't change how it was when they were released separately. Something I would prefer they not repeat. Most of us have professions leveled and can spend the gold without an issue other than crafting stuff we'll probably never use. Having them be so wasteful is not good for newer players since it greatly limits their remaining choices. Player retention should be important. Players shouldn't be encouraged to buy gold as a means of character progression (mastery points is a form of character progression).

Obviously you don't care if it is wasteful or discouraging for newer players. You think one extra point or maybe 2 each chapter is the equivalent of tons of choices. However, I would like for newer players to not see such wastefulness associated with gameplay progression. Let the gold sink achievements give other stuff. Let the mastery achievements be less wasteful.

Hmm, cynically, I wonder if this means no new maps for the rest of the saga and some wave defense missions scattered throughout core Tyria, with some sign fixing style content added every week or two.

Time will tell, of course, but I'm a little wary of this apparent change of direction.

I just hope that the new rewards and weapon sets they mention aren't just there as hard gold and material sinks.

Thank you for the roadmap! :)

I'm very excited for the new missions. I always enjoyed fighting the dragon champions and am expecting the same from these too. I especially like that there is a solo option as well as re-playability and progression in these.

I don't think this signals the kind of functional change in direction you're suggesting so much as creating a clearer delineation between narrative arcs. With the last episode serving almost as a "mid-season finale" (complete with an epilogue and additional dialogue to transition to the next episode), I would view the changes to the episode naming and numbering as a way to distinguish between season 5a and 5b. You could also see it like how ATLA ended its final season with a 4-part finale. Each of those episodes stands on its own, but tell a connected story that could almost be seen as one extended, concluding arc. I could be wrong, but it just strikes me more as a way to get players to understand that these episodes are more connected, tell a different story, and offer their own types of new content.

That being said, I still expect these releases to include new maps, whether in parts or all at once like Bound by Blood gave us.

  • @Underdark.3726 said:

I was hoping for more Strikes and more Eye of the North rewards. An ascended set of runic armor plus a legendary set would have been great. Also another vision of the past update, ie, battle for Lion’s Arch would have been a great addition to the scrying pool! Loved that battle.

  • Can't wait for the new voice acting on Nov. 17, yay!
