The goal here is to illustrate why people believe one form of Pride is "Better" to have than the other. So there will be NO "Both" OR "Other" option. Should it even apply.
Suppose you were trying to communicate to anyone. Why you hold 1 form of Pride (Your choice) higher over the other. Which is Better to you and why?
I made this Post because from time to time I see talks of Server Pride and Guild Pride. Also, it is my own belief that ether Pride, in general, is a major driving force towards people's various actions and emotions regarding WvW. I'm just Curious about both sides of the Coin. Then to see if one side yields to be more shinier than the other here. That's all.
Guild Pride > Server Pride
WvW: "We are all Hamsters running on a wheel. After we are done running on our wheels. Our treat so to speak is ANOTHER WHEEL (Server to fight). If not the same very wheel we just got done running on... excuse me while I go look around for a real treat."

Guild only because servers are going away (eventually).
Server, more inclusive . . .
Overall server pride is good in getting multiple groups of people to care to fight for each other in something as big as wvw. But if you're in a guild, they are the people you will interact with the most and over time people tend to only want to interact with those players, especially when the guild starts moving servers.
Server pride started dying after servers started dying, which was greatly accelerated with HoT right into folding servers into links, and will be a none factor with the alliance system. Having an identity also promotes server pride, as seen in every other rvr games, but for gw2 that's basically none existent other than what players created for their servers due to the way the players played the game, something that will be fully reset every 8 weeks.
Going forward it's all about guild or alliance pride, but mostly guild.
Another derailing post. ^^

Most servers were filled up by luck or stacking. Most players picked a server randomly when they started or their friends picked one together. Afterwards most players transferred to a populated server before it was locked or hop around with their guild.
Ultimately though, the guild a player is in is a larger reflection of the values and effectiveness of a player. Just because a player is on BG doesn't make them good/bad. Players in a good skill based guild however, yeah that commands respect, fear or both.
Server pride lasts until that one large guild jumps to another server.
Every player is on a server. Not every player is in a guild especially for a dying game mode such as WvW.

You cannot control who is on your server. So why take pride in something you have no control over?
You can control who is in your guild, so taking pride in that seems much more logical.

I am the server carry. Why take pride in being too good? I try to keep myself being humble; quite the best at it really.
The value of a guild to me isn't just who is in it but who isn't. Can't control that with a server.
None. Having read the [Kazo] doctrine extensively on this subject in our Guild Theology Debates it was has been realized, and put simply: Pride is a sin, and a trap.
"Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of Milord, Zudo. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity." - Sayed our Lord and Commander Zudo

Neither. I go where ever I feel and I make myself at home. If I stop enjoying myself where I am, I move on. My only pride is in my classes. I'm a Necromancer at heart and I love Engineer above all else. About it, really.

Server pride because ez week for we [winning server], we [winning server] crush they [losing servers] and i didnt even have to log in
Are there any in both?
For server, many switch servers with little thoughts
For guild, you can swap your tag at any moment.
Such prides are questionable.

Explanations of WvW Structures & Populations Issues
That entirely depends on who you play with.
For me, my guild is obviously above and beyond the game itself. I played with the guild before WvW, and may have never even played the game long enough to discover WvW in the first place, and will most likely associate with the guild long past Gw2 itself.
But not everyone is like this. In my case, the game itself isn't as important, but others may value it differently. If I view Gw2 as a game to play with some people, others may view Gw2 (and wvw) as what's important, and you're looking for people to play Gw2 with.
Guilds used to be part of their server community in some capacity, even if they did just GvG, especially during the GvG hype days. Not so much nowadays, with Server links though and many guilds have moved on since from their original servers or disbanded, so many players either quit or split on other servers now.

Why be loyal to your server? I mean that's like trying to stay loyal to your Country. If you don't like your Country obviously you just move to another one......
Because I know these people. Many of them are people I've known since GW1.

Do not fear simplification of the game, there is elegance in simplicity that allows more time for playing and less time building.
That's odd, because even you believe both are important.
I think pride is important for competitive game modes. The form it takes isn't.
More interesting to me would be hearing from people whose positions on the topic aren't obvious from the gameplay preferences:
"Face the facts. Then act on them. It's ...the only doctrine I have to offer you, & it's harder than you'd think, because I swear humans seem hardwired to do anything but. Face the facts. Don't pray, don't wish, ...FACE THE FACTS. THEN act." — Quellcrist Falconer
guild. players come and go, so does allies, but ur guild mates are family.
Not Even Coverage is the Only broken thing in WVW.
Need a third option... Fun with friends pride... I have lots of fun with a couple different guilds because of the people. You could call that a form of guild pride I guess.
But server pride got butt kicked with links imo.
When Alliances come in servers won’t exist so that’s a moot option really. And whatever pride there will be will have to do with the alliance you’re in.

Badly timed poll after anet announced they'll be replacing the server system in favour of worlds. Asked the same question two years ago and you've seen the results flipped in favour of servers. People who vote for guild over server will be thanked by their guilds by being kicked if inactive for longer than 1-2wks under the new system, because of the guild/ally limits anet will impose. And enjoy trying to communicate with 10+ different voice-comms being used per world.

It was guilds that destroyed SoR for example, one large guild left and 5 other guilds followed after than imploding the server from t1 to t5 in months. It was people loyal to those guilds that killed the server and not those loyal to the server who stayed and tried to help it. The same will happen with "worlds" when one big ally starts to fall apart because of in-fighting between guild leaders and their egos which is going to happen. Then they, in turn, will destroy the guilds in the ally who don't want drama and then the worlds themselves. You will see new worlds born every 3 months and half-built allies in a lot of them after one ally has collapsed due to infighting. Then people spending weeks trying to form new allies and getting up voicecomms again. This will repeat every 3 months. And this affects everyone in the world not just the ally or guilds but roamers also. Ally system put too much power into a groups hands which can destroy the whole game mode for everyone. A worlds ally falls apart and the whole world falls apart and everyone gives up, this guild support is going to be the death of this game mode.

Servers don't mean a lick when people can jump ship at will. Now if a guild comes to a server and make or breaks it..
both are cancer
Pretty much this. Yes, a guild is a sort of in-game family. But the server is where your guild lives. It's your anchor, your neighbours, the people on the block. You don't necessarily get along with them all the time, but when push comes to shove you'll band together to protect your patch. You know- the sort of communities these games were supposed to foster. So that the game woudl be filled with characters you'd come to know for good or ill. At least that's how it should be/should have been.
Megaserver and map dumping didn't help this because what we're left with on average is a few people in a mostly empty map(save for taxi'ing during certain world boss events) which gives the game the feeling of being in a theme park after hours. There's nothing homey feeling about the game anymore. This is bad.
Without a home to protect what's the point to having a guild, let alone an alliance? What are you allied for? What are you defending? What's your purpose. Getting loot? Why? To get more loot? Why? To defend your side? What side? Now that it's completely mutable what does that even mean? How does it even matter?
After the changes when someone asks, 'Where's your guild from?' The inevitable answer will be, 'Nowhere.' Or if the conversation lasts long enough you might have to tell them you played together in another game before GW2 and in that game you were from 'insert name here' server. Not good if you have to identify your home or origin in game with another, older game because the game world you're in isn't much of a world at all anymore.
Guilds working together is what makes a server worthy of pride. Without the guilds, a server is nothing.
REDUCE NA TO 3 TIERS
Without Guilds a server is nothing...........but a bunch of people.
hmmm. You picked server pride but your comment suggests you favour guild pride??

IMO its always been guild pride as guilds represent the server, not the other way around

inb4 obligatory "the name refers to something from the lore"
Guild Pride is better, because the game is called "Guild Wars"
[I bet I am the first one to make this kind of statement]
EDIT:
No seriously. Guild Pride makes kind of sense, because you most likely choose a guild with players or an "atmosphere" you prefer. In this sense you can kind of control what group you belong to. But a server is too big a collection of different people. It isn't necessarily themed around a common goal unlike guilds usually are.
EDIT 2:
However when the game was still young and world linking wasn't a thing I was kinda proud belonging to FoW, because the non-bandwagoners where sticking with the server. So we had a small collection of loyal players that almost felt like a guild, even though we were a collection of some small guilds doing WvW. But you knew each other, you even knew most of the players of the opposing small servers. I don't know. It was like a little family battling it out week after week or trying to survive against an onslaught of overwhelming numbers... thinking about that, I kinda miss the old days... can I change my answer back?
I was being sarcastic.

Guild because servers are an inflexible population mechanism and server pride has in part played a role in delaying the changes that have to occur.
Can I pick "Proud guild members that are proud of being in the same server community?" I don't think they have to be mutually exclusive.
I don't think I will ever see my best moments of WvW when members of multiple guilds work together in the name and pride of their server. When guilds would proudly say "We are a server_name guild"

server pride breeds toxicity towards guilds/players on other servers, and even the players on their own servers who aren't working towards the mandated "server cause".
guild pride leads you to respect guilds around you, friendly or not, who clearly put effort into their membership and play
Cant wait for new system and servers deleted
Server pride, I have 5 guilds but only 1 server.
Given the large amounts of bandwagon behavior since the release of this game, server pride has diluted to nil post-HoT/server-linkage era. If you just take a survey of which players are on which server, you will find certain band of groups will always be together regardless of which server is the FOTM. Many guilds also experience large turnovers, but atleast the corruption and back-handed tactics of server leaders is not as prominent. Also, given the tentative plan of converting GW2 WvW into an alliance-structured environment will deem servers obsolete. I have been fortunate to have played with quality guilds and players, so these are just my personal observations.
In any case, any kind of pride in general is dangerous to have. Hubris goes a long way to deteriorate your mind and soul. Keep it in check.

Servers because not everybody play in a guild. I am more loyal to the larger faction than individual guilds.
I could say the same about Factions in any RvR game. But Faction pride is greater than anything.
Well it does. Has nothing to do with player Guilds.
im proud even of the ones that give the server a bad rep, because at the end of the day a lot of people remember a server because of its personalities. the guilds all add into this.

Er Both!
My guild has proudly been on WSR since the beginning and won't leave even when times were really dark at bottom of bronze for years. They have so much server pride that you used to be kicked from the guild if you leave the server, that's obviously changed since HoT as most stopped playing WvW every day and many don't log in more than for a few days every few months.
The power creep really ruined one of the best MMO's I've seen.
