How Long/Often Do You Play? (21 April 2018) I mostly just stand around in-game for the chat, because I'm old school and have what I need. So, a few hours per day.
What do you do for fun? (30 May 2018) I despise fractals and PvP, and the dungeons are dead. What is to be done for fun in this game? Is PoF required?
    There's nothing to do (17 November 2018)

Have you considered that this game might not be your cup of tea?

No, because it was my favorite MMO at launch, and now I want to recover that lost feeling of, like, actually enjoying the game.

Maybe unfortunately, but we all grow away from games. The games change (in the case of MMOs), and we ourselves change.
In the case of sub free games, they're quite accessible to come back to every now and then.

Personally, I started w GW. After 5-6 years I went to LoTRO. Played that for a few years before coming back to GW. A year or so later, GW2 started its F2P option, and here I am 3 years later.

What makes you think that's a function of Anet doing something? It's not like they haven't put new content into the game since launch. Time to be honest with one's self here. If your bored, you got options.

If you think balancing is only driven by performance and justified by comparisons to other classes then prepare to be educated:

It honestly sounds like this game isn’t for you.

This sounds like the best idea. If the OP no longer finds the game fun, play something else. Maybe some day something will peak their interest enough to return.

Well I guess complaining on the boards that there nothing to do can be seen as something to do.

Factions didn't only add Sin and Rit, it added loads of new skills for all professions and builds used skills from Factions. Or even worse, skills from Prophecies, remember that Factions was standalone and for someone that had Factions only, they were blocked from using the Prophecies skills (and vice versa), meaning for many builds one campaign wouldn't suffice, you needed both. Something that only got worse with Nightfall and then Eye of the North.

Well perhaps it's time to reconsider.
The 2018 version of GW2 has evolved from its 2012 launch and maybe you just prefer games still in start up mode.

This. You either adapt and go with the direction the game provides, assisting with quality, constructive feedback or you find another game that will provide that early day thrill or that suits what you are looking for. Coming to the forum month on month to complain about the direction or boredom with poor quality feedback achieves precisely nothing for either yourself or the dev team.

It's a video game. You are not obliged to play if it isn't entertaining you.

Basically what Mad Doctor said. For example spirit bond is a factions only skill, it gave way from 55hp monks to be 600 hp monk solo farmers. Or splinter weapon from Rit being used alot. As well as Necro/Rit healers being preferred over monk healers in HA at some point.

I mean, ofcourse it's a bit of a stretch to call it pay to win in the first place, but there was definitely an increase in power and damage or at least versatility.

Sounds like the OP is suffering from burn-out. I'm a brand new player and, to me, it seems like there is FAR too much to do! :dizzy:

  • You're right, OP. There's nothing to do. You should be playing other games. Let me look after your gold while you're gone so it won't rot or anything.

  • Sounds to me like the OP doesn't want to buy the expansion, but he wants them. Is it a problem to buy these expansions because you can't spare the money or because of the payment method?

Why do you refuse to buy it?

To be fair, they usually are. Pugging raids is painful, especially if you are trying to learn the encounters, and getting into a group that has a schedule isnt any easier unless they have an absence.

Well your not supposed to pug or get into experienced groups with a schedule when your learning anyway.
Thats what all the training runs that specific guilds and randoms do on the lfg.
Sadly most people seem to not want to train instead just get in, get the kill and go on their merry way.

Oh believe me i know that! Hell, i know most of the bosses(with the exception of the dhuum wing) now but refuse to pug. Id rather do them with a training group my friend runs with his guild than do a pug, at leasts its enjoyable even in failure.

    Dungeons: Dead.
    Fractals: Too grindy.
    Raids: Most groups are exclusive.
    PvP: Pay to win.

    what you should of said:

Dungeons: Dead/Boring/playing TP way more lucrative - requires no actual game play

Fractals: repetitive ie. grindy, who wants to do lvl 1-100 let alone everything else. Hilarious, the TP playing can get u the Agony resist you need.

Raids: Most groups are exclusive - this is true, good luck finding any groups that will take you, especially taking the time to search, network, ask around lol, who has time for that. They need to make auto join in Raids, and nerf the difficulty, since its all mostly dead content anyways, except for what? probably only 100 groups do this on a regular basis in the entire game. most will only accept 1-2 pugs, and most of those require proof of kills, regardless of gaming experience you have, or whether you understand the mechanics from youtube, there is no way for them to measure that, so kill proof required it is, which of course is a catch 22 in and of itself if you're trying to get into raids lol.

Want to know how i know its around 100 groups that do this? Because the LFG is always deserted in raids, I'd be surprised if it is even 100 active raiding groups at this point and more like 20-50. If it was like 1000+ groups the little singular LFG tab would be constantly loaded with people LFM 24/7, and yet thats not the case.

PvP: Dead, tournaments no longer matter, they abandoned e-sport pvp, all the streamers left and competition left. Super negative environment, over-tuned/unbalanced builds, that indeed require elite specs to even stand a chance (unless you enjoy playing with a huge handicap and go vanilla necro or something which is the same as the elite specs only you will be missing a handful of aces up your sleeve - ie a handicap). (in this regard it is p2w if you are a f2p player).

so yah I agree with mostly everything you said.

I do however like the holiday stuff and the lore/nostalgia/enviornement/gameplay but even though im sure this game "is not the game for me" lol (you guys are funny). I been playing since gw1 so im sorry its morphed into something I (an original fan) don't really like as much as the original, except for a handful of aspects which are better than the original.

Considering that even my fairly short, mostly casual friend list has at least 12 people on it raiding weekly with different raid groups/communities (EU only) I challenge your assumption as wildly innacurate. I do however see that many of them semi-pug by asking around among friends (considering how often I as a person not regularly raiding get asked to fill in with this or that raid group) rather than putting their run on lfg if they are a few people short, so I'm definitely not convinced that few groups on lfg (which could also just mean that the groups that do go up on lfg are filled quickly) mean few people raiding.

Dungeons are dead. Just because there are 2 groups a day, doesn't make them "active". Thousands of supporters on Reddit and countless threads on the forums/Reddit would prove that the dungeon system needs to be improved and brought back to life. It's supposed to be an MMO.

Funny, I've been playing several of those dead dungeons lately with different friends, and everytime I asked around for people to join, there were more people expressing interest than room in the party.

    @DakotaCoty.5721 said:
Why are you shifting semantics to defend ArenaNet when there have been underlining issues for hardcore players since the start?

Did you ever consider that hardcore players may not be this game's target audience? I know I play GW2 instead of other games precisely because it lets me play the game rather than having to no-life it to be able to access most content, and many other people I know are here for the same reason.

    @DakotaCoty.5721 said:
    TL;DR
Stop lying, stop whiteknighting or these things won't get fixed.

What exactly do you expect to be fixed? All the things you are complaining about in your post look to me as if they're done that way on purpose. We get a new map with lots of enjoyable bits and pieces to explore every few months, achievements and collections that you can complete if you enjoy them, or ignore with no further impact on your gameplay if you don't. The amount of "must do" content is very low, so you are free to choose what you would like to play, whether it's story, exploration, world bosses, meta events, dungeons, fractals, wvw, pvp, whatever. And best of all, you have that choice of what gameplay you enjoy even if you are fairly new, as the barrier to entry for most gameplay is very low.

The "price", if you want to call it that, is that there is not a lot of "high prestige" rewards, since the game is not built to primarily cater to the competitive type of player, but rather to the cooperative, casual one that plays games for the entertainment value. Optimizing game time and trying to be as efficient as possible is neither very rewarding nor in any way necessary in this game. That's what makes the game appealing to a wide target audience, and what sets the game apart from other, similar games. There's nothing to fix here, it's doing precisely what ANet set out to do.

    Let's address several points here...

A gaming company needs to have a vast audience; this includes semi-hardcore and hardcore players. This game is extremely unrewarding for long-term players, and it's been made even more difficult over the years - this will hurt Guild Wars 2's longevity.

As mentioned previously; the only reason Guild Wars 2 stands out right now is because every other MMO goes P2W or is unstable. Bless, BDO, Revelation Online, Aion, BnS, etc... Once there is a game that offers slightly more than GW2 at a faster rate, people will swap and guild wars 2 will become a game that people won't quit because they've invested too much and new players will just avoid it. Much like WoW, Destiny 2, FFXIV, ESO and Tibia - these games are losing players, people only stay because of investments.

Guild Wars 2 has great art, potential and the team to pull this game to one of the new age defining MMOs, but sadly, they are stuck in this kitten phase of "we're comfortable right now, no change needed."

    What needs "fixing"...
    1. A dungeon queue system with actual rewards, one daily reward, one actual repeater reward worth doing and no, not achievements.
    2. WvW needs a fix so it's actually profitable and not this boring train farmfest it currently is.
    3. Raids need actual rewards outside of legendary armors, converting raid currency to gold, fractal relics, no idea anything would work.
    4. Repeatable bi-weekly/weekly/monthly CMs for raids with reduced rewards, but enough to make worth doing.
    5. Moving away from this endless elite spec every expansion, create a new system, this is boring predictable and blasé at best.
    6. Map queue for meta maps so you're not forced to spam click and be forced an error message.
    7. New animations for each race, purchasable or toggle - not even WoW used any same animation twice for their races on launch, why do humans and sylvari share the same cast/idle stance?
    8. New armor skins, hello? Where the heck are all the armor skins - there are some EXCEPTIONALLY beautiful outfits on the gem store, a reformed outfit system is needed because this one is becoming archaic.
    9. New character selection screen display UI - I have 14~ or so characters, it's a mess. I can't even begin to imagine people with 69 characters.
    10. Reformed social system; it is so easy to harass / stalk / follow people, why was this system ever green-lighted? Why can I see people I blocked online?
    11. Precursor crafting is actually more expensive than the precursor themselves in some legendary cases - why is this not being addressed when it was supposed to be reversed?
    12. Why have daily and monthly reward system, then remove monthlies, then cap it all off?
    13. Battlegrounds PvP maps, move away from this dreadful 5v5 conquest that we've had for decades. Where are the 10v10 or 15v15 CtF / Domination / conquer modes?

These are some of the points; apart from "shiny items" there's literally nothing that stands out in GW2. Even WoW has a beautiful open world with its dated archaic engine because they have exceptionally talented artists. These points that I listed aren't just "niche things" they are critical systems that are now dead for the most part or just simply old / ignored.

On e spec part remove them all give classes their identy back. And dont give new stuff to them core game classes. They were perfect as they were in pre hot.

I like to skinny dip other maps 'bay' while they are there.
the costume run, basically as far as you can get, qu-dos anyone that makes it to another bl's wp and gets one shotted by a legendary.
the legendary attack, basically can you kill one, probably not but if you get close and in melee , the glitches teleport you out pretty randomly.
the guild watches, we take bets.
the naked dunk or the streaker dunk, basically run into the enemy zerg downs dunk one, live. very difficult now with all the red rings.
shiney armour competitions, now replaced with aura stacking but same game.
soloing towers, 2 for garris, 3 for sm.
    the list goes on...
