You're not wrong, but warrior really needed a MH ranged option.

Agreed in principle, although I think it might have been wasted on Bladesworn, since Bladesworn isn't exactly bringing a lot of ranged support to the table. It has the Wall of Reflection grenade thing, but projectile hate on its own is perfectly suitable for a melee-oriented build unless it's a 1v1 situation (and sometimes even then). Mainhand pistol might therefore be in reserve for a future elite specialisation that might make better use of it (including at least having the option to bring more support to the table than core warrior can).

At the bottom line, warrior getting pistol as OH only is disappointing, but it works. You have multiple weapons you can combine it with - it synergises particularly well with a MH axe, but it could also work paired with a mace for CC and block, and if at some point the balance churn makes axe nonviable but brings sword or mace up, pistol will still be usable.

An engineer elite specialisation offhand, on the other hand, has a good chance of being dead on arrival. When you only have one mainhand weapon (a problem unique to non-holosmith engineer), whether an offhand weapon is useable or not is highly dependent on the state of that mainhand weapon, and engineer pistol is bad. It has the potential to be a good weapon (and was on release), but it was nerfed shortly after release and largely left behind afterwards as power creep set in.

Despite this, shield and offhand pistol DO get used...but only because engineer has kits, and can use the kits most of the time, only swapping into the offhand briefly to use a skill before reverting to a kit. Without a substantial buff to pistol mainhand, that's what's going to happen to any new offhand engineer gets, which means in practice engineers using the elite spec will still have the same 'rifle or spend 95% of your time in kits' choice that core engineer has, making the offhand weapon have even less impact on overall gameplay and feel even more tokenistic than BS's offhand pistol. Furthermore, any such offhand would need to work with pistol, otherwise it'd remain dead even if it gets buffed into the stratosphere... but engineers don't really want another power weapon so this isn't a big deal.

In short, I don't think warriors getting an offhand when a mainhand was hoped for is equivalent to that happening with engineer. Warrior has enough mainhand weapons that offhand pistol can find something to work with, and for better or worse, gunsaber is the real focus of BS anyway. Any engineer offhand, though, is going to be hobbled to the only mainhand weapon available, and when that mainhand weapon is one you want to spend as little time in as possible, it'll do little to offer a new playstyle. Which also gives the elite specialisation as a whole little opportunity to offer a new playstyle unless it's another holosmith that brings what is essentially a new kit to the table as a profession mechanic.

Well, Engineer is such a meager design space to work with weapon wise. It really would be a missed opportunity to just give OH mace, even is the mechanic itself is sound.

Yeah, pretty much. It's one of two professions where I think ArenaNet really needs to bite the bullet and give them another core weapon, otherwise they're going to keep having the same issues with every elite specialisation they design.

There was a line of thought on WP's clip on the art;

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Oola

Question 3 - necromancy and golemancy colliding. Especially with the green tint (with some jade tech influence) this could be something.

Perhaps a literal "deus ex machina" - considering how the locals treat spirits with respect; the spirit could be housed in the machine and the spirit tech could work in tandem with the engi

Just looked at the guy with the Jade arm on the EoD page with the innovator blurb next to it.  I do think the engineer elite will be called the Innovator.  I hope Anet is holding back some big surprise, because the currently revealed components feel like the elite will be too narrow, unable to break out of the limitations baked into the core class.

Wow me, Anet.  Wow me. 🙏

That's what I'm thinking. We are getting teased, but there won't be the pay-off I'm hoping it should be.

But the thing is we AREN'T  being teased at all

The entire minion/pet speculation is pretty much just based on that one wierd glitch that had the pet rename thing pop up on an engineer

Nothing anet has shown us has given any indication that this spec is based on minions/pets/golems

The icon looks like a guy with big arms, this picture shows us a charr with obvious mechanical devices on their arms with a fist being shot out

Its literally just the community fabricating something that isn't there

Actually, you're right. I had forgotten about the glitch. I'm even sadder now lol

This is a real hard one..

I don't even know if the "weapon" it's holding is actually it's new weapon, could be it's class mechanic.
I see a lot of people saying Mace.. specially OH Mace but I feel like that will be a really bad move for this class considering it's already extremely limited weapon pool (thanks to kits)
It's possible it could be a scepter as well but im not sold on that either.

The pose of the picture reminds me a lot of the pose my Charr Necro does when it orders it's Flesh Golem to charge at an enemy.

Another thing that popped into my head relates back to some older Guildwars lore regarding Golemancy and Necromancy.

Oola once said:
"Necromancy and golemancy have long been destined to collide. One deals with death, and the other, life. I'm on the verge of creating a new kind of golem that creates life from death."

Others have also brought this up in past months as well and now that we've seen the actual silhouette of the Engi, I think they were onto something with this speculation.

I think the "weapon" they maybe holding there isn't a Mace or Scepter.. I think's some kind of kit based control device or something which will allow the Engineer to command and control some kind of new type of Golem or Construct creature remotely.
How this will play in game I have no idea lol
We could summon it like a transform skill and control it.
We could command it like a Ranger.. unlikely.
We could control directly with our Engineer character becoming like a pokemon trainer or something.
It could be a full blown Minion type thing but more in line with Gw1's Minion system in that you need corpses to conjure up Golem minions.. unlikely as well.

I dunno but I definitely think Engi's are getting something they can control in some way.

Great. So it's up to the engineer to dabble in two areas they're not related to at once.

Don't think it really has anything to do with necromancy.

I personally hope that someone's idea of a "radiation" theme is true. From the first time we saw jade tech, I thought "this looks like Canthan nuclear energy". And it would be cool if the usage of dragon jade had some kind of fallout.

Imagine if the magic from the dragon jade is radiating in the area and can potentially make people sick. Would also fit for the blight theme of the harbinger.

Maybe engineer could get corruption skills, which harm the engineer when using them, but unleashing great effects. This would also fit well for a condi spec thematically.

If people discuss possibility of pet spec it does not mean that people want pet spec. Majority of players don't want a pet spec simply because they know how bad AI in this game.

While i like the idea...Engi has too low sustain to make corruption skills very...useful? I mean for dps sure, but i also am not using the trait that forces u to overheat in fractals for example on my condi engi since i am often enough runnin around with 20% hp there.

Necro has a ton of hp AND shroud as bonus. So corruption skills are not a big deal for them. But...lets say....
...lets look at the skill "Blood is Power".  While this is a great skill. It does 2 stacks of self bleeding and (with trait) 2 stacks of self torment.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?PSgAs+lRwAZasKGJWsX1PTA-zRJYmRDfZkbC0RBI8FJI2AvFevtA-e this is the basic scourge build of snowcrows.
bleeding dmg does 154 and torment 193 if running and 288 if standing. Counting this together...694 if running and 884 if standing each second self damage. I mean scourge can live with that with that amount of sustain and barrier. But engi cant.
This spec would need a lot of self sustain and condi transfer. Well i would love that ofc.
And if the self harming would be strike damage it would be holo 2.0 imo. Meaning overheat with that.

But i like the idea anyway.

At the moment, I've seen fewer of those people in the entire thread. For once, people have tempered expectations after what happened with Vindicator and partially Catalyst. Bladesworn was surprisingly well within expectation but needed major adjustment but Vindicator was atrocious after what they did with the Elite Skill for Viktor and the disappointing GS skills lel

I will probably be disappointed if it is just another holosmith with a mandatory "kit", from the silhouette, it is almost looking like some kinda of tech-monk that punches things for a living, kinda thinking VI from league of legends here but only because the gauntlets seem emphasized to some degree.

Then again the only thing i didn't like about holosmith was the heat bar, I would of liked the option to just drop the heat bar and have he forge as a cooldown.

You know....If it means for the spec to be fun, that is not a bad idea at all. Introduce a brand new condition named radiation. Or Jade something. Only for this engi spec. It can be a condi spec too. I'd like to see that unique condi being applicable both to you and the enemy, with you having the ways of harnessing it while the enemy suffers from it if not prepared. Like transfer your radiation with a device, absorb it to enhance your next attack, or just have the raw output to inflict it as a dmging condi.

We have seen similar ideas before with the asura racial skills and the glowwing in the dark skeletons. I'd like to see a lot of confusion and poison in this spec with some added burning for flavor. Radiation may as well just be an effect that causes these three conditions to apply once in a while. Now I'm hungry for radiactive gameplay, since I am not in the mood for fake ninja Jokesworn gameplay.

The fake purse ninja Jokosworn gameplay sounds pretty fun.  Still hoping for Anet to surprise us somehow, but I am preparing to order Standard instead of Ultimate, due to looming meh. 😐

I think we are getting something Jade Borg, Jade Cyborg, Transhumanisttyrianist.  Which would be odd when swapping between elites... "My implants have been replaced with this fleshy natural organic material!" 🙄
