Imagine Europe consists of more than 3 countries...

Seems this sweepstakes is limited  to Germany, UK and France when it comes to Europe.
Imagine there's like 25 European Union countries more in it and that you won't be getting any fat extra sales the moment people read the fine print that does not let them participate.

So you're Italian/Spanish/Portuguese/Dutch/Belgian/Polish etc? Sucks to be u! No EoD prizes in your future!

I feel for you, as a Canadian resident we haven't had any of the GW2 promotional sales from Amazon or BestBuy over the past few years.  Whether it be a sale or a sweepstakes, different regions and countries have different laws about participation.  At least, it is usually the case that there is a law preventing people from participating more than a business making unfavorable choices.

I agree this isn't fun (and I'm not elligable either). The issue has to do with local laws. There isn't a EU law for sweepstakes, but it is different per country. It would require tons of work to check all of these regulations AND add it to the sweepstakes.

I do hope, that Arenanet recognises this and will organise some smaller sweepstakes for the other countries.

Another promotion for the same handful of countries. No surprise there.

Yeah, but there are companies that specialise in these things. No need for ArenaNet to do it they just have to select the right partner to run it.

Tbh the only thing i'd really want to win from it is the Aurine statue.. although a portrait of my main character would be pretty amazing as well.
Could hang it next to this awesome picture of wife Jora we have on the wall. (my wife in cosplay lol)

As for the rest of the prises, I don't like using headsets, I already have a good gaming chair, I have a gaming PC and accessories so no use for a laptop or new keyboard and all that stuff.
And i'm waaaaay too introverted and anti social to travel half way across the planet to meet complete strangers who would be getting paid to interact with me.. that would just make me horrifically uncomfortable lol

Likewise I'd also feel uncomfortable about the 2-3 hours of some devs time being obligated to play with me too.. so yea, I know that would end up with me just constantly asking them what they wanted to do cause I dunno lol
I play solo largely so I don't have to deal with situations like that XD

Each country included adds legal overhead to all of the prizes and how they're distributed. So naturally they focus on larger countries. That sucks, but that's just how the world works, it's nothing personal. Different countries have different laws, etc around prizes and occaisionally taxes too.

As others have pointed out, there are multiple granular levels of legal issues here.  From international to regional, national, provincial, municipal, etc.

The EU trade zone is the most complicated legal agreement in the world and in world history.  There are exceptions everywhere, and an activity must meet each and every exception in each and every country in the EU for it to apply to every country in the EU.  Most people here seem to forget this.

If you want to familiarize yourself with every bit of EU legal documentation

Directory of Acts

Treaties

Directory of caselaw

The National Transposition Directory is categorized by year and goes back to 1974.  I'm linking back to 2017, you can find the rest.

National Transpositions - 2017  National Transpositions - 2018  National Transpositions - 2019  National Transpositions - 2020  National Transpositions - 2021  National Transpositions - 2022

National Caselaw

Precedent Jurisdictional Decisions

International Agreements

The above is not an exhaustive list of all legal bindings for conducting economic activities with all members of the EU.  Post here if you finish reading and understand the thousands of pages above and we can get started on the specifics of promotional economic activities in the EU by a foreign business.

Imagine that Europe consists of more than three countries who implement EU law differently and require adherence to all statutes, regulations, policies, agreements, and precedent decisions for economic activities at the international, Eurozone, national, and jurisdictional levels.

It's like this with virtually every partnered giveaway, AN has ever done to date tho.

How would I know? well, because each time a thing pops up I go to the terms and conditions and look at eligible countries list - and then ignore whole thing because my country is never there.

Fortunatelly for this one I bought EoD long before they announced it and I would buy EoD regardless sooo.... yeah.

For some of those left out of that promotion/sweepstakes, you (some of Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark) might be eligible for this one:  https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/enter-to-win-a-guild-wars-2-end-of-dragons-alienware-pc-and-dxracer-gaming-chair/

Sorry, this campaign is not available in your location.

Again. (The Netherlands)

"Australia
(excluding, NSW, ACT)"

Of course. Why am I not surprised. NSW is *only* the state with the highest population but they'll leave us out. Naturally.

Have you considered petitioning your government(s) regarding the legalities of sweepstakes and similar activities? Restrictions such as you are seeing here are almost always due to a company finding it too expensive to set their sweepstake up to the wide variety of restrictions, fees, potential fines, etc. Sometimes it isnt a matter of complexity rather than cost.

It would be nice if there were some giveaways from ArenaNet itself where every account holder can participate instead of all these 3rd parties with all their regional restrictions. Prizes of in-game items can be just as nice.

Prizes of in game items are still restricted in many countries. The licensing fees to operate such sweepstakes/contests/etc (and the penalties for even simple honest mistakes) can be prohibitive.

If you live in a representative republic or democracy and don't like your country's laws/restrictions, change them.

Unfortunately this is much easier said than done. Personally, I'm not a politician, and there's only so much lobbying can do.

Indeed, more so when you're part of something like the EU and you have no real voice to change anything there.

It's very very difficult and complicated.. so just "changing" things isn't always possible.

Even in my homeland we don't "elect" our leader, we only vote for the party that leads, and the party decides who leads it which is just.. uhhh stupid.
This is how we end up with so many idiots in power lol
