Xenesis.6389
That's what happens when you don't design a game by the trinity roles in the first place, then decide you want to and dump everything on a couple classes instead of properly spreading stuff around. This game has too many customizable parts from skills/traits/gear stats/rune sets/elite specs to break stuff, trinity roles are built with restrictions in place. 🤷♂️ 2 1 1

Depends on class designs either way. Warhammer was a pretty fun rvr game with trinity designs. Better than having absolutely no restrictions to control classes. That's why we end up with a can do it all Guardian class. Rift also had a multi soul(gw2 trait lines) lines, but they ended having some broken op specs too. Mmo's fail cause they bring terrible copypasta content. I sit here thinking rifts from rift mmo, or zone invasion type content are super fun to do, like wow did with legion invasions, but for some reason they never run them for long, or like gw2 tries to do zone meta events, but don't quite get the same feeling of fun with them, gw2 pve feels so obnoxious/boring to me at this point. 1
Telgum.6071
In my opinion the only issue about this, and the thing that should be addressed, is that everyone can be a tank while also dealing from good to massive damage. Tank healers are not a relevant thing IMO, and they wouldn't be that strong if the boonstrip and corrupt mechanics were available for all classes and in more viable ways. That's why Necro breaks everything at hand, a support without active restoration+protection+stability is only half support. Hotride.2187
WoW healers were tanky when I played (tbc, wotlk, cata). The only way you killed the healer as a solo dps is when their mana ran out, or if you could keep some healing reduction effect on them. 3v3 was a different topic though, unmolested 2 dps on your healer was bad news. But yeah they were not as tanky as wvw healers. Especially a support scrapper and a tempest are not easy to kill even by 2 players. You have to strip a lot of boons to get it done... I think conquest supports work way better (aside from support guard being stronger than other supports). 1 1
Lilithish.7243
This is reminiscent of what California is doing to the rest of the states. You left your last game for a reason and now you want to make the new game like the last game when those of us here already like it. Move on. Curennos.9307
Support specs healing other players is fine - the issue comes, imo, when that same spec benefits from ALL of its own support abilities at the same time. That is, guardian casts Unbroken Lines. The guardian plus allies get the same stability, toughness, prot, and aegis. And almost every skill functions like this, versus other games where it's the other way around - that is, skills that heal the healer and an ally tend to be rarer, and if you choose to heal yourself you're (generally) not healing someone else, and vice versa. ESO has spammable AoE heals but they're more targetted, so the healer is not always included. Single target skills exist and while they can be morphed to heal multiple targets sometimes, this is rarer and the exception proves the 'rule'. An excellent example of this is Specter, who is much more limited and lacks the AoE spammy support ability most other support specs have in spades. They can use their stealth skill on an ally and heal for a good amount, but it does jack for them. There's really only the smaller bonuses they get for landing shroud skills that only benefit them and a tethered ally, plus wells with alac and whatnot. You can easily see the lot of complaints about how specter needs more AoE support in line with what other classes have floating around. This is probably also why you won't really see any support-focused specters in PvP - they can't AoE support spam and they're squishy! Is this all bad? No, not really. Imo, healers/support specs should generally be able to support themselves sometimes. But I do think GW2 has a design issue of those support specs benefitting almost entirely, almost all the time, from every support skill they use, as it means support specs that can really heal and prop up allies in a fight are, themselves, quite durable as a result. How to deal with this? Eh. Haven't the foggiest. It's really deeply entrenched in the game now. Take boon buffs - quickness and alac. Specs that generate these boons also apply 'em to themselves. I suppose anet could do a pass over all skills and ensure anything that generates AoE quickness (like harbringer's GM trait) has a +1 to allied targets while it no longer benefits the harbringer...I imagine that'd bring a lot of complaints, though. That said, I do think there's a balance to be struck in support skills benefitting allies vs benefitting the caster, and that a lot of them currently may be too heavy in the latter while also doing the former, and that one of them needs to give a little. 2

jul.7602
Why on earth was this topic moved to Spvp? Forum mods have no clue what this thread is about. There are no minstrel/nomads in PvP, so it belongs in the wvw forum. 2 1 2
