Warriors getting Staff in Expansion 4!! Whats your ideas for it?

It should be mobile midrange weapon. So I imagine around  400 range autoattacks and plenty of abilities that hit in 400-500 range in frontal cone with probably 1 short and 1 long dash. At least 1 knockback to knock other melee weapons back to range where the staff can outrange other melee weapons. Probably will have some way to knockdown enemies to setup burst skill.

The burst skill most likely is dash forward dealing damage in small radius or immobile hard hitting frontal cone channel skill that you need to setup with knockdown or stun in PvP.

So pretty much standard staff from other MMORPGs.

I can work with that.

Polearm ( Staff ) Skill concept:

AA Chain: Polearm Slice -> Slices at your foe, tormenting them with a wicked wound.
Upward Slash -> Aggravated the wounds of your foe with a upward slash, tormenting them more.
Weakening Thrust -> Thrusts your Polearm at your foe, weakening enemies in front of you.
Range: 150. Delays: 1/2s, 1/2s, 1s.
( The animations are a diagonal left to right downward slice, then a smaller right to left upward slice until the dead center of the enemy, and finally a powerful AoE thrust with a cool animation. )

Skill 2: Defensive Slash -> Spins your Polearm in a arcing motion, striking enemies around you, slowing them and granting you and allies with Barrier. 4s Cooldown. Combo Finisher: Blast. Radius: 150. Delay 3/4s.

Skill 3: Tactician's Assault -> Stabs ferociously in front of you with a poisoned spear in a vicious but controled display of aggression, applying Poison to enemies and cleansing conditions off allies, more conditions are cleansed if the enemies are Slowed. Cooldown: 12s. Range: 150. Delay 2s.

Skill 4: "Suppress, Galvanize" -> Leaps to target area. At the impact, you stab the ground with your Polearm, confusing Enemies as the earth shatters below them, and granting Protection and Regeneration to your allies. Cooldown: 18s. Range: 600. Evade 1/2s. Delay 1s.

Skill 5: "Beyond My Gaze, Within My Reach" -> Throws a magical spear at the enemy target, immobilizing it. The spear then explodes, copying the target's conditions to nearby foes. Allies near the Warrior gain Barrier and Resolution. Cooldown: 22s. Range: 1200. Delay: 1s.

Burst: "Stand As One." -> Throws a magical spear to the targeted area, causing damage to enemies, and leaving an area at the point of impact of pulsing healing waters that grant Resistance and Regeneration to allies. Combo Field: Water. Cooldown: 8s. Range: 1200. Delay: 3/4s.

-------------

The idea is simple: Make the Staff a bit longer range than other weapons ( 150 base range ), while behaving like a tactician's poleaxe/polearm. The attacks are relatively speedy, but they are also easily avoidable, the cds are long for the most utilitary cds, and the weapon would perform ok for condi bruiser builds with support. I for one like what Ian did here, i would argue that the CDs should be longer at least for 3/4/5 and Burst. Also, the weapon would probably have to have okayish power coefficients so it would be a hybrid i guess?

TYVM. I didn't suggest CDs on 3-5, I felt it was more important to get the feel of what I saw in my mind down. Staff 2, being the 2 skill, should have a short CD and function as a means of maintaining Barrier on the party, but not an OP amount. The 4s CD would be for PvE, I could see it having a 6s CD in PvP/WvW if it needed that for balance.

Thank you for fleshing it out more and flavoring it. You did a good job there. I'd say that Staff 3 would be better at a 10s CD, purely for condi DPS reasons, the amount of conditions would be split between game modes, with fewer cleansed in competitive. Staff 4 would need a shorter CD than 18s, mainly so that protection would be easier to maintain and to upkeep confusion more for damage, 15s would be best for PvE, but I can see 18s in competitive. A 22s CD for Staff 5 feels off, we don't typically have 22s CDs in the game, I'd err on the side of 20s for PvE and 24s for competitive.

Thanks again for expanding on it. I like what you did there.

Given that Daredevil is a near perfect implementation of melee staff, no joke I want the staff to be some wonky ranged/magic/ammo thing.  You're never gonna rise above it, or possibly bastardize DD, so please don't try.

After long deliberation and careful thinking, I've come to the conclusion that the skills may look something like this:

Staff #1: Bonk, Bonk & Bonk
Staff #2: Bonk Harder
Staff #3: Throw and Bonk
Staff #4: Spin and Bonk
Staff #5: Pole-vault then Bonk

But I could be wrong. 🤔

It better be a kittening support weapon with condi that isn't bleeding on it. We don't need another cc or power weapon.

There is a potential that they might use the Banner bundle skills for it that they removed, I just hope they upgrade them since they were really bad. I can see them doing something like https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Commander's+Standard since the banner bundle was basically spear with a flag on it, ill give bonus points if they make a banner spear staff skin for that for everyone but just warrior gets flag weave animations for it.
On another point there isn't anything mainhand for support  to go along Warharn and Guardian gets dual pistol before warrior lol.

I saw that Blue child got the good stuff. Oh, I saw. But, hey the only OH left for us is focus, so moving forward if they just keep adding core weapons we'll get pistol MH eventually*.

Spoiler

* We'll get Shortbow, scepter, and then focus. Then Anet will announce GW3 where the warrior profession gets scrapped entirely like dervish and ritualist were when GW2 came out.

If you want to see some warrior staff gameplay, go watch Mulan (the original, not the live action pretender).

Jokes aside, as a casual pve andy (who tries to do well but ends up getting carried in raids by the guild I'm in) I am really hoping for some sort of drill sergeant heal warrior. More Shouts and wells please!

Honestly i think its going to be a hybrid weapon, with both melee and ranged attacks (alike the sunspears) Now one thing that Id love to see, is the 5 skill be a flip over (alike deadeye) So you are able to switch between melee and ranged in the same weapon.

I mean.. I would still prefer a mainhand pistol though Anet (nudge nudge)

What I've imagined in the past was essentially a support dervish theme - but that was in a context of coming with a support-oriented elite specialisation. Hard to see how that concept would work on something like berserker. I suspect the person who said it might basically be recycling the concepts that were used for carried banners might be on the mark - although like guardian tomes, it might not be the same.

I've had this Idea long ago about Monk type of staff where one of the skills probably the 5  changes the 1 to 4 skills, something like Kneel on deadeye, where you transition from staff fighting to fist fighting and you get 8 skills to play around with and maybe burst skills for the different stance so another 2 bursts , each stance would have different support skills aspects, the staff would get support group buffs with higher range and maybe group defense with little bit of cc while the fist fighting would have heal when punching people maybe with good dps potential but melee range.

Now when I think about it Vindicator works kinda like that but with utilities . Are all of the new specs taken from the kittening Omnibus and did they make the warrior spec garbage on purpose as a spiteful thanks?
