The amount of time it takes you to acquire the latest weekly diamond chest is downright INSULTING.

Seriously? Does it really take like 20 to 25 hours (or more) per week to get the final weekly diamond skirmish chest? Are you nuts? I'm trying really hard to get that kitten final chest but I just don't have enough time, and I'm playing like two hours of WvW per day nonstop currently. I'm not treating this game like a second job.

No wonder I see TONS of afkers and bots grinding pips absolutely everywhere.

This is a serious issue in the reward structure with this particular gamemode and its fix should be top priority.

Please, adress this ASAP.

That doesn't stop it from being a poor implementation though. On my main I somewhat breeze through it with four bonus pips or whatever. On my alts it is a rather boring grind, usually managed by lowballing outnumbered maps like the OP suggests. Whoever thought the more longtime invested players should get rewarded by having to play less clearly did not have the fingers on the pulse of WvW. Let's not defend bad because we feel cheated.

Though, I stand by what I have said in the past: The issue with the pip rewards isn't necessarily the tickets (even if the time to acrue them can be debated too) but rather the marks, memories or similar issues with additional low income rates and lack of spending them on anything worthwhile on the way up to legendaries. The step by step progression and specifically the ascended layer in WvW is abyssmal. It is usually a bad idea trying to get items that way better kept saved for legendaries or sold to aquire items through other modes.

Mainly selling the memories now, I don't hate that they actually generate a tangible income but at the same time it is rather ridiculous that the only reliable gold income was never designed to be that or while income sources from other modes allow players to make gold off of the WvW playerbase, the WvW playerbase is mainly left to vulture itself as sellers and buyers of things like memories are all part of an enclosed system (which also makes no sense given supply and demand, since items for memories also need tickets and memories are faster).

What keeps you playing this game? Why are you doing WvW?
Is it your goals? Do you enjoy WvW?

If having an objective is what keeps you entertained, then why rush?
If you hate WvW and only want something it offers, why not get it elsewhere? Because aside from Gift of Battle, there's nothing in WvW you can't get somewhere else.

Is it because WvW is the easiest way to achieve that goal?
Then ask yourself what's more important to you; the effort involved, or the time invested. If your time is more important, then go grind for what ever it is you want where there's the least of that needed.

I know this game loves to throw loot and gold at you just for existing, but some things are actually going to require a commitment. If there was nothing to work toward many people wouldn't even bother to play. Horizontal progression is one of the reasons people never try GW2 in the first place.

I'm not defending the WvW reward system.
I don't think anyone would disagree that it needs a rework, and people like yourself who don't have as much time to spare just end up feeling burnt out - I'm not blaming you for that. But you and everyone else in your position need to start asking yourself the questions I posed before always jumping to the conclusion that it needs to be easier. If dopamine is all you want, play mobile games.

Um no, the veterans who played before the skirmish reward system came into play in 2017, and had high wvw ranks had a pips advantage from day one.

But if someone is starting the game nine years behind and want to get stuff like the legendary armor from wvw, they need to put in the time into wvw. Major adjustment they should do is to even out the tickets per chest, there's no reason it should be backloaded, it just makes it a bit more stressful to newer players to have to reach the end chests to get most of the tickets. If the total number of tickets is already capped per week anyways, there's no reason to also backload them.

Fortunately anet had already mentioned they don't agree with the time either and the rewards system needs some work.

It sounds like you dont enjoy actually playing WvW and are doing it  for the reward. What exactly is it in the Diamond Chest that you need? Everything in there can be obtained through other means that you might enjoy better.

Yea, it's pretty poor and the comment about "second job" is going to be true.

I think it was established for existing WvW'ers, as those had a bunch of ranks already. So basically, it's less bad for them and never seemed too awful maybe.

I think they should increase base pips, and add more bonus pips for finishing a chest last week. And probably make dailies directly increase pips as well.

But they should also enforce AFK timers more strictly and remove/nerf things like veteran creatures and similar nonsense. Maybe you should lose less participation for being in enemy territory and are alive; at least that'd make it harder to afk. 😉

To the OP, take a look at the following link, specifically the "Looking to the future" part.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/studio-update-world-restructuring-and-the-future-of-world-vs-world/

If they are to be believed, and at the moment I see no reason why not, then a lot of what you are asking for may come to pass. Having made such an announcement if they don't their credibility will be in tatters and I personally can see no way back from it. Time will tell I suppose.

They're looking at the acquisition rate for lower ranked players.
See https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/studio-update-world-restructuring-and-the-future-of-world-vs-world/

Quote

After World Restructuring, we’ll be looking to make WvW more rewarding, with a focus on active play. There’s two major parts to this. First, we’ll be looking at improving individual rewards for participation and performance. This will be a mix of adding new rewards and improving older systems. As an example, we’d like to address how support players are under rewarded. Skirmish tracks also take longer to progress than we’d like, especially for new players. Second, we want to give players and guilds reasons to care about winning their current match up and reward them for exceptional performance during a season. Longer-term, we’d also like to introduce systems that would allow guilds to flex and compare their WvW prowess.

It's been long suggested that the linearity of the tickets be addressed. I doubt they will drop the weekly cap but they are looking into the time spent in a week. It's also important to remember that you don't have to hit the cap every week. Hitting gold skirmish chest is far more manageable.

Of course that doesn't help people that primarily WVW because they aren't changing grandmaster mark shards to grandmaster marls or adding new weekly/daily vendors for emblems.

@ ArchonWing if they are going to add pips for dailies the Veteran Creature daily needs to be replaced by dolyak escort.

Shards (and the mark system in general) needs to be looked at. It's like a year for a full set to buy ascended gear that is more expensive than crafting it yourself. Granted, it's for the precursor + skin but it also means there's little for people that aren't aiming for legendaries.

And yea I guess Dolyak escorts? But how many? The game is a little inconsistent on these numbers, like you only need to take 1 sentry but 2 camps, etc. Or gain 2 entire levels.

If anything legendary armor needs to be harder to obtain in WvW, not easier/faster when considering

a) it is supposed to be a "legendary" endgame reward, not something a new player can scoop up in a few weeks of afk/easy mode gameplay

b) the amount of players that use WvW as their "way to go" towards legendary gear despite obviously not enjoying the game mode instead of choosing more enjoyable means of acquisition.

Who cares how many though? The guild mission is 3/5/8 but given land claimer is 1 sentry point and the guild mission is 3/5/10 depending on easy/med/hard that's not a huge deal. Even one is better than 15 people afk at veteran creature spawn point...
Escorting yaks does something tangible in the matchup especially when dolyak kill is also a daily. Veteran creature literally does nothing for the matchup except encourage people to spawn camp it for up to 10 minutes (I think that's the time?).

That is really not true since it is max 365 tickets / week and 1095 tickets per piece of armor not including precursor. It's a lengthy process even if your main mode is WVW. If someone raids there is literally no reason to get legendary WVW armor anymore unless you don't raid as there is no unique skin for it.

Instead of penalizing people going for WVW armor it would be better if they added a new skin unlock for people with mistforged and a full set of legendary WvW armor. Right now the aura is not dyeable on mistforged WVW armor although it is fully dyeable on PVP mistforged.

Not long enough compared to the effort it takes in other game modes as this thread (and similar ones) clearly show. Otherwise players would just get their legendary armor from elsewhere instead of picking the easiest method, then still complaining about how long it takes, because they feel entitled to obtain what is supposed to be the ultimate (yet still completely optional) endgame reward without having to put in the effort/time that everyone else had to spend.

Okay let's do some math here. The following assumptions are made:

  • -We already have all other materials we need to craft the legendary armor
  • -We have a commander tag
  • -We aren't afraid to use the commander tag when our world needs one
  • -We are wvw rank 150-619 (bronze)
  • -Our world is consistently in third or second place in each match
  • -We completed the wood chest last week

According to WvW Pips : Guild Wars 2 Calculator (limitlessfx.com) we'll need 24 hour and 10 minutes of constant tier 3 participation to earn the final diamond chest of the week and max out at 365 skirmish claim tickets. If we can commit to two hours a night for five days a week, we still need to come up with 14 hours on the weekend. Most players are unable to commit to this required time due to a full-time job and real-life responsibilities.

Now let's assume we command a public squad with at least 10 players for an average of two hours in the week. You get 12 ticks in one hour of wvw. That's 72 extra pips.

Now let's say we only play on Outnumbered maps. Forego the public squad pips and opt for the +5 bonus. If we can do that for two hours in the week we can get an extra 120 pips. Problem is this requires Outnumbered to exist on any given wvw map AND for us to keep porting around to find it.

WvW Pips : Guild Wars 2 Calculator (limitlessfx.com) - With the above "Outnumbered buff only" strategy applied constantly, it only takes 12 hours to max our tickets for the week.

If we stick with the latter strategy, we can easily play wvw for an hour or two each day per week and reach the diamond chest. But, and a big but, it's not fun. Who wants to try to roam and gank guards and camps with Outnumbered for 22 weeks? That's not even pretending to actually be involved in wvw.

Imo the time needed is the trade for how easy it is to get. You don't have to play any other game mode, you don't need to be good at all, you don't need any achievements, you get everything you need in WvW, it only costs time.

If the time is the problem, then they should add collections to WvW and drop the time to 10-15 weeks, make them like the Tournament achievements.

This seems fair for a Conflux or Warbringer.

And yet we have people that come in here saying they bought everything and have left over tickets for nothing, so which is it, too hard or too easy to obtain the wvw legendaries?

That's an entirely separate problem in that the ticket vendor has little else to offer you besides legendaries and the occasional trinket (but it's not even that great of a way to get those). So if you don't want to grind for a legendary or already have all of them, it does nothing.

I spent many, many hours escorting Dolyaks. Players coming in to WvW today or even in the past few years should be grateful a reward track exists at all.
Again, I'm not saying the reward system doesn't need changes. Just because it was about 100x worse in the past doesn't mean it can't be better now. But I'll be damned if some people don't sound like "gimmie, gimmie!" when mashing 1 for an hour doesn't fill their entire loot bag.

And you've been more than rewarded with that bonus for four years, how long do new people have to suffer walking two miles in 10 ft of snow to make up for that?

It really isn't "gimmie, gimmie". This is more about consistency relative to the rest of the game.

Also let's not forget people nowadays have to grind for a warclaw, something veterans didn't really have to do.

This isn't the same game as it was  in 2013. We don't have as many players as we did in the past and this can create a horrible impression for new players.

edit: Also do you think the stuff we already have (reward tracks, etc) came out of the goodness of their hearts? It involved years of complaining by WvWers that were going broke trying to support their servers. And some of the suggestions came from myself and others through discussions.

So yea, don't just dismiss these concerns.

Looks to me like an easy fix that doesn't move heaven and earth to implement is add a +2 pip bonus for being in a squad (of at least 10 players). +1 for being in a party with all party members in a wvw map in the same world. Encourages participation with current commanders and formation of smaller parties to explore and complete minor tasks.

If my math is right this would mean the average wvw player would only need 17 hours of playtime to meet the weekly cap.
