Black lion keys is not fun

I used 55 black lion keys and no drop Winged Reverie Skiff Skin. I used Gold key and still no skin. I really like that skin, but i cant get it. Its not funny. Its not a casino game. I think its a problem when you spend time, money and got nothing. :(

Black Lion Chests are loot boxes and thus they are gambling.

You might not get them in a casino, but their nature is no different from casino games.

Well it's still an annoying RNG system, you can get at least everything somehow.

Now that you spent the money you only need to spend time and wait for the skin to got into the Black Lion Statuettes Rotation, since you got enough within your 55 chests.

I feel like GW2's BL chests are at least a little more forgiving than, say, Tera's Locked Strongboxes which were basically the same thing. Then they added different varieties of strongboxes that you'd get randomly as drops and spend money on keys to unlock and still probably only get garbage. And I mean it was garbage, there was no 'consolation prize' like the statuette + guaranteed item.

At least with BL chests you get the statuettes so even if you do fail to get what you want... with enough failures you can just straight up buy it from the statue vendor at some point. That being said, after about 25 attempts to get the jade tech glider I gave up. Gonna just hang onto my statues until it rotates into the vendor and spare myself the aneurysm. :'D

It's not supposed to be fun, it's supposed to make you spend more in total trying for the drop you want then you'd choose to spend on it if they simply sold it at that price. You're only going to enjoy opening them if you don't care at all what you get and just want the novelty of finding out.

Unfortunately there's also no other way to get those account bound items, it's either getting them from the chest or saving 60 statuettes until they're available from the vendor (and statuettes also come from chests).

Fortunately, there is nothing in the Black Lion chests that players need to complete content.  So, if they're not fun, then don't do them.

You're right, this isn't a casino, it's a video game. That didn't stop you from spending money on something in a video game that is pure RNG, then getting mad when RNG happened. Pro tip: if you don't like RNG, don't feed into it.

Its up to you as an individual to decide and be responsible for what you do and don't spend your money on. Did you work out the odds before you bought them?

My suggestion: Use on key every time they change the contents - and try your luck. But do not try too hard. There are other skins. (And later maybe other ways to obtain the skin from the chests.)

If you can't do that you either have to live with the consequences (paying lots of money for gems) ... or trying to maybe get professional help. (If this happens more often and if you think you are spending more than you should.)

In general ... stuff where other peopler earn your money is usually not "fun." Except if you have a company and give your money to other people that then help you to earn even more money. by producing stuff you then sell.

I agree that BL keys suck.  That's why I haven't spent any gems on any since they were introduced.  I recommend that others follow my example.  It's not that I have an ethical problem with them, I just don't think that the trash they normally provided is worth their cost.

The best thing to do is vote with your wallet.  Don't buy keys.  Let ArenaNet know, with your weallet, that you prefer to buy things outright than to gamble with black lion chests.

Personally, I buy keys when the chests ahve a guaranteed drop of something I feel is worthy, which is rartely.  When the chests update, I check what the current guaranteed drop is.  If it's not something I'm interested in, I save my money.  Doing it this way makes everything that drops from the chest a bonus.

 

Again, don't buy keys if you want a specific drop from the chests.  Vote with your wallet and buy the items you want outright.

For some people, decorating their character is the content. There is really no good reason to make skins from black lion chest account bound except to sell more gems. It's inconvenient and unfun.

Funniest thing: Just opened one now after it got changed to new content. Got the Jade Tech Chair lol. And the other one where I got an item ... was a chair as well I think. (Vermillion Throne.) Other than that I think I never got rare items.

Learn this lesson from this user right here that spent 80 dollars on a frenzy to get black lion keys to obtain the Archdemon Wings and got nothing in return.
