Yall need a better monetization system for WvW players to support WvW Development

Right now we just have Warclaw skins, which the mount itself looks like a griffin without wings. Doesnt have lots of eye candy skins like other mounts do. But that pretty much all we have to support the game.

We need some cool eye candy Siege Golem skins, and maybe a Siege Turtle gets added to the game so can add Skins to that as well. New Structure Models that players can buy from the store when their guild claims a structure, would be a nice addition as well. Maybe some decoration art that players can pay for to decorate the structures their guilds claim, similar to Guild Halls, but restricted in travel paths like stairs and keep lord room, etc.

Would be nice to see more mobile sieges get added to the game over time that can get unique skins as well.

Said before and again, they are missing the boat on siege skin options. Have both skins earned in game and those in the gem store. Same thing with ammo skin and shot effects. Good opportunities there waiting to happen to both help funds for WvW development, give players goals to work towards and more goals for people to achieve.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dynamics_Racing_Skiff_Skin would probably make a great shield gen skin and it's 1600 gems.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crescent_Canoe_Skiff_Skin could pass for a new ballista skin.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Floating_Lantern_Skiff_Skin this is passable for a new treb or cata skin.

🤭🤷‍♂️🍿

Allow users to buy home instance nodes that can be placed in the WvW maps.  Obviously for the same price they can't be forever nodes like the home instance nodes but someone could do the math to figure out a reasonable duration or number of harvests.

Or make them gizmos that can be placed once a day and be harvested by a fixed number of players.  "Need help defending home Bay, five leather nodes placed in inner!"

Make gizmos like the birthday cake gizmo but that serve ascended food instead.  Or a node that can be harvested for one ascended food item per day, can buy multiple such nodes.

Make a gizmo that you can feed food to after which it automatically feeds you the next food when your current food expires, likewise for utilities.

Make a skirmish ticket gobbler.

Add something like in the Silverwastes or the Halloween maze where you can donate, in this case, gems and if enough are donated you get a service, but instead of a trading post or bank or whatever you get a harvesting node or an ascended feast or something, so that people can collectively chip in a few gems.

Tongue in cheek: offer boon gizmos that give you perma-boons for a period of time. No I'm not serious.  Really I'm not. Don't take this seriously okay?

What makes you think Anet supports WvW development?

I think the idea is that if they were getting income from gem sales to wvw players they would support wvw development. It would probably have to be on a pretty big scale to work.

But why be limited by the games monetization system, why not show ads while capping an objective?

This SMC Capture is brought to you by Maguuma's Tears - makes Sylvari wilt. If you have an infestation problem, be sure to pick some up at the bottom of Tangled Depths... now with extra salt!

What are maguuma tears?

Some ideas,
Gemstore special Guild Hero banner. When you tap on it, you'll get an automatic invitation to join the Guild. Along with a greeting and a little information about the Guild. Think how happy all those mass spam invite guilds would be.

Guild siege skins. Keep, tower special skins that would be like a gemstore upgrade for your guild. Smc special skin.

The Skirmish Ticket gobbler is also a very good idea.

At this point, it's no longer a question of where they get their money from. It's a matter of what their target audience is. I'm pretty sure the current management of GW2 would love to just delete or otherwise remove support from PVP/WVW or at least just delegate it to a minor "minigame" that doesn't need further development/maintainance/care.

The game itself on the whole at this point is a PVE game, that's what it's made its name on, and that's how its advertised/word-of-mouth and how it attracts players.

So trying to change that, at this point of time, would set the game in an identify crisis, that would make it very difficult to attract new players, since they wouldn't be sure what to expect from the game. GW2 struggled with this the first couple of years, and I'm pretty sure the management doesn't want to go back to that problem.

To be clear, talking about the management, and not the devs. The devs themselves seem to be interested in fixing up every part of the game if they where allowed to.

While it may be nice to spice up wvw a bit with new skins for stuff like siege and objectives, and we've asked for near 10 years now, there's actually not much point for them to do so. All of the character cosmetics they have in the store can be used in wvw, and it makes more sense for them to make skins for pve items like mounts and boats and such because there's just more usable items and players there, like wvw gets one mount that people complained about, while pve has eight that people clamor for more skins for.

Adding these specific items to wvw doesn't exactly fund the wvw devs separately, wouldn't promote more wvw development. We also have finishers as a more specific wvw/pvp item, but I don't think they sell well either(I bet even the useless chairs out sell these). The decision for anet to develop pve more than anything else is based on how many pve players there are, and more specifically the pve whales that buy from the shop every day. The wvw population is smaller than pve, and even smaller is the number of players who use siege on a daily basis, a very small pool of players to sell to. 🤷‍♂️

It's a gag/joke of an in-game advertisement, also a knock at Maguuma at the same time.

You've clearly chosen to ignore server transfers. That is monetization.

Anet doesn't have to do jack if guilds of players just cough up the dough to bandwagon to other servers for social clout and to make it easier to farm bags. They still make money.

I can certainly see the point. There's always people like Fueki who will say that there isn't a correlation between where money is earned and how it is spent but the reality is that there will be a correlation. Arena Net have limited resources and they will be spending them where they think they can get a decent return on investment, whether that is from new players, returning players, more gem store sales, etc.

So if people want significantly more money invested into WvW then there does need to be a decent revenue stream attached to that. I can see potential in cosmetic only WvW skins (eg siege) assuming the cost to produce the skins wouldn't be too high for Arena Net. Similarly with some of BLP's ideas which seemed interesting to me.

No, sorry, not going to work that way. It's one thing to ask for wvw tailored gemstore items, it's another to assume the money generated from them will direct future resources. Anet knows how many players participate in wvw, how often, how long... and that's the true indicator.

And for fun let's assume your monetization model was implemented... what happens if wvw tailored items sold poorly?

Monetizing WvW harder doesn't guarantee that the money gets used to improve WvW.

And to expand on this, I'm pretty sure more than half of the gem store money doesn't even go to Anet. A percentage probably goes to the 3rd party vendor handling the transactions, and a much larger percentage probably goes to NCSoft for development in other games.

You're acting.... like WvW players never PvE... like WvW players never spend gems on PvE stuff... like WvW players have no need or desire of build / equipment templates or more bag slots or bank slots or outfits or armour skins or glider skins or permanent gathering tools or VIP zone passes or or or...

How many of them bought a chair and couldn't sit on it in wvw rofl.
