when does the greed stop?

Recommended Posts

Yes the maps are beautiful, but it is an mmorpg game, that means a loot game. but there is barely added nice skins too loot tables. every (nice) skin goes to the ingame store.
yes the game is free to play after buying but it isn't fully free because it's a fashion game and fashion is only buyable with gems at most times. and gems cost insane amount of gold for a skin (or the easy way money. but thats not the way for a f2p game) a few weeks/months ago when there was a new map added where you had to buy a gas mask to not die, the event was nice for a few tries, but it adds nothing. i mean, sure there are hundreds of chests at the end of a meta, that drops materials but it gets looted thousand of times so the mats from it are worthless in no time because demant or supply or whats called. further it has no nice skins in it.

it's bad. i am a loot player. the only ppl who get rewarded seems wvwers, pvpers, raiders, and fractal players. it's bad to me.
i wanted fishing very bad because i liked it from WoW, but when i saw what fishing is in gw2 it is not worth it for me. i like to fish up mounts or pets (mini's) but in gw2 it's just the same loot table (junk loot) like all others, but then in the form of fish (same junk, different icon and name) in WoW i have spend hours to fish up sea turtle or other pets. can't you just add some nice mini's to the fishing loot table? also fishing in gw2 is annoying because you never know when the bar is moving, no sound, nothing just rng. so making money in gw2 is hard.
many more ppl said that unidentified bags are no rewards!

i think this is also the problem that there are so many afk farmers, because effort reward ratio is very unbalanced. and with afk farm you do nothing and gets something. the normal unfair way you do something and gets NOTHING.

if you start caring and add some nice ways to make money (if not cm skilled) instead of only want our cash, maybe it solve the afk farming also. i never afk farm because i don't risk a ban.
after all it feels really bad that the store is full of shinies (in a f2p game) but it cost so much gold, that i am forced to use my wallet if i really want something. but i don't do it because i hate greedy ppl, i am far from greedy myself. if i use my gold then i am at 0 gold just for a few skins and a mount skin. i sold a EoD legendary. but the legendary compared to store skins, the skins are way to overpriced.

ohw and there is only 1 reward, that are infusions. drop is too low, further treasure mushroom, khan-ur chest. all waste of time, same for weekly keyrun, thats wasting half hour if you are slow. this greed is ridiculous. spending so much time (back then) without any reward. how can this keep going? or does only ppl who spend cash get bonus? magic find is fake. except with enveloppes. ohw and the weekly jade tech statues, every monday (or this time tuesday) it's a huge dissapointed that i again get trash loot. and makes me feel even more disappointed about the greedy drops.

also when i started disliking the game was when there was a 25% discount, the gold to gem price increased also with 25% so this means that there is NO discount, Except when you pay with real money, OR if you are a rich player, OR when you bought the gems when they where low price.

this was my experience, it's an opinion or truth for me, i didn't lie. the drops are bad. i kept it friendly so no reason to remove it.

That’s nonsense. Open World is pretty rewarding. But if this is your impression then why don’t you start playing WvW, PvP, raids or fractals?
It’s quite easy to make gold in GW2.

Different MMOs use different reward schemes, GW2 doesn't rely on random drops nearly as much as WoW so if you're looking strictly at things you get as direct drops you will find the selection pretty limited, but that's not because there's nothing there, it's because you're ignoring the vast majority of the in-game rewards.

There are literally hundreds of weapon and armour skins, mini pets and other things you can get in game. Most are purchased from from NPC merchants using the various specialist currencies in your wallet and materials (and sometimes gold).

For example there are 3 mini pets you can get from fishing (the mini thundershrimp, blue crab and hermit crab), but you won't catch them while fishing. You need to get the Local Legend mastery and then buy them from Fishmongers for pieces of crustacean meat (which you will get by fishing).

An old example but still relevant is that each dungeon has a unique armour set (3 technically, 1 for each armour weight) and a unique weapon set, but again you don't get them by running the dungeon over and over and hoping you're finally the one who gets lucky (and is permitted to keep the drop), you save up the Tales of Dungeon Delving you're guaranteed to get and then buy the ones you want. That system is repeated throughout the game, right up to the new release which added the new Special Ops armour set, mini phoenix and various other items. Those aren't in the gem store, you'll have to play in Gyala Delve to get them. (I'm not sure of the specifics because I haven't got them yet and the wiki hasn't been updated, the update came out less than 24 hours ago.)

You say you understand it's an mmo then ask everything to be pretty much 0 gold so you can get what you want with no grinding. You also point out ways that make good gold but don't want to do them and then complain you don't make gold.

You say you're able to make and sell a legendary but only able to buy a skin or two with that gold, so you are making gold, but your not rich beyond your wildest dreams so there must be something wrong with the game?

Honestly I'll try and answer part of this, look into external resources like the fastfarming and gw2efficiency websites, they can give you different idea's on gold making and maybe where gold is on your account you didn't know about like different currencies that you can make into profit or items in your bank you don't have a use for that are worth a lot.

Another tip is don't wait for a sale on an item to convert gold to gems, wait till it dips between sales and convert it then, that way you have the gems to use on the next sale and can ignore the spike.

Also also, don't know who's telling you unidentified bags are trash loot and wont make you gold but stop listening to that person for gw2 financial advice.

Have you actually played WvW? It's well known to be the least rewarding game mode in terms of loot.

easy mystic clovers, easy completion for living season armor box (pve'rs have to complete ALL achievements for let say lake doric) to craft legendary trinket or ring. while a wvwer just select a different track and keep playing what they like. i am a pve player but i hate achievements + story's.  wvwers get ascended loot boxes and or gear, the only ascended box i got from pve was the jormag greatsword and tequatls hoard. (besides raids)

There is a lot of great loot in the game, but no, it’s not going to drop out of some random bag.

Could some of the loot tables be reevaluated? Sure, but the real question here is why are you being greedy?

i am not greedy, if i buy a game then the loot should drop, and not everything behind another paywall, skins are too expensive. but i had to know it, no matter what i post here, or what others do. ppl always agree with how things are and like to throw money to gems as if it's nothing.

This game has a plethora of skins available outside of the gemstore, by just playing the game. But you don't like achievements and story, so that automatically excludes lots of skins you can get that way. Besides, you get rewards for everything you do. You just don't like the awards, or the fact that some drops are random and/or rare. This begs the question: why do you play a game of which the reward system is not to your liking? Are there games with reward systems you do like? Then why not play those? This a b2p game (not a f2p game, as you claimed, unless you want a limited, core-only experience of GW2). Where do you think the money comes from to keep developing new content and features if not from us? So what you are saying is you don't want to spend a penny on GW2 but you want them to develop the game the way you want them to? Newsflash: ANet is not a charity organisation.

Are you sure you quoted the right post? I told you how you can rewards in-game, which is what you said you wanted, and your conclusion is you need to stop playing MMOs?

How does finding out that what you want is already in the game lead to the conclusion that you should quit playing?

In case it's unclear (and I now realise it might be for an inexperienced player) when I said you need to use the games different currencies to buy items I don't mean gold or gems. I mean things like karma, unbound and volatile magic, imperial favour etc. Most areas of the game have their own currency which you'll earn by playing there and then you can use it to buy stuff from the merchants in that area.

It's the same general idea as WoW's random drops, but it removes all the uncertainty. If you want a specific reward you can see how much it costs and know when you get that much you're guaranteed to be able to get it, instead of having to hope you finally get lucky with RNG.

yes i am sure i quoted the right post, but what bothers me is, gw2, WoW, hearthstone and call of duty all games are a disaster. hearthstone has trash rng and bad matchmaking, the game is full of losers who play mage so i quit the game, call of duty is full of camper losers, also quit the game, in wow i made 300k gold within a few days. and in gw2 i want so many nice items, but if i buy all i have zero gold, it's hard to make gold in gw2. and the easy get rich items never drop. this is ridiculous, irl everything gets more expensive every few weeks. and then virtual skins wont change. i just want 1 item drop thats worth a few thousand and it makes me happy for the game again, but as long as i waste time for treasure mushroom and others without the item i want my hate gets bigger and bigger. i think i go buy diablo 4, maybe my luck is better there.

I think it's generally fine the way it is, though I do wish there were a few more interesting things that would drop in open world, or at least more often. Still, I like that what does drop can be converted into gold and I can then use that gold to get other things.

Regarding skins being behind a paywall, you can easily just convert gold to gems and get them that way.

Sure, but that means the game expects you to grind grind grind grind nonstop. Doesn't feel really respectful of your time.

If the currently expensive items would drop more often, they wouldn't be expensive anymore.

As the gem/gold exchange rate is also driven by supply and demand, gems would just get more expensive, if it was easier to get gold in the game, the price of the gems would also rise.

the game doesn't expect (or need) you to do anything and it is not wow where loot drops is the primary hamster wheel (and where you 'grind grind grind' gold/faction reputation and DKP etc or be punished as well as paying a sub)

For info this is my take on it:

I play what i want and when i want.  That gives me an easy 250 gold a month without trying, which is roughly 1k Gems a month.

Every now and then because I don't have to pay a sub i treat myself to some gems and buy what i want.  This also supports the game i'm playing at terms which i like. (I.e  im not forced to pay to logon)

If you want more faster, then Anet gives you more options than any other mmorpg out there, none of which is pay to win or a sub.

Wanting your cake and eating it and not paying for it is the definition of greed.

Ah, Freya, thank you. I think you nailed it perfectly. The irony is indeed rich.

At the moment I am saving up for two major expenditures, my next legendary as well as a very expensive skin I want. If every desirable thing was handed to us freely in the game, I know I would soon get bored. Slow, steady farming to earn the gold I need gives me a goal to work toward and an incentive to keep playing. I got my first fifth year birthday present last December so clearly I like this process of having ingame goals and the ability to work toward them in a steady manner.

Not really, nobody expects you to unlock evereything. You can unlock what you want by playing as much as you want. If you expect to unlock a lot with almost no gameplay, adjust your expectations to more realistic ones.
