A Mastery reducing Visual Clutter?

Well, I thought if we don't get it by design through Options, we might need to earn it.

The expense to ANet is the same, though. What's the "selling point" for turning this into a mastery? "Hey work hard so if you have a lower-spec machine, you can improve performance?"Autolooting makes sense to lock behind a mastery, because it's a feature everyone wants in just about every game... thus offering a benefit and a reason to upgrade. GFX options deserve to be part of everyone's game, not just those with the right expansion.

I'd just ask for the feature and let ANet decide how they want to implement it (or not).

Well, it would mainly be - "Hey, work hard if you like your eyes!", or omsething along these lines.

Don't get me wrong, it's all a very important case for me but wrapped up in a joke. I just want to bring this subject to the table once again and see what people think at this moment.I don't really know if it's that hard to implement or if ANet values shiny and flashy this much. I really struggle to find the answer.

But a Mastery? Imagine the scenario if they actually implemented it as so. That's horrific.

I agree, why does it have to be a mastery and not a flat out table of options in the graphics section? A ton of ppl want to have the ability to tone down or flat out hide infusions and ability animations.

Some would even love a standard mount models checkbox.

I am fairly new to GW2. I played briefly over 6 years ago and have just started again in the last 2 months or so. I am loving the game but I have to say the visual cancer is probably the thing I hate the most. I have things turned down as low as possible to try and combat it, but I wish this wasn't necessary because it's not a good system. When I hide players the game also hides hostile NPC's which makes some group events a real trial.

I don't think things like this should be gated behind things like masteries though. I am 110% in favour of having some extra toggles in the game for things like skins and armour/weapon effects and what have you. Along with some improvements to the ability to hide other players without the game hiding hostiles. This is the best of all worlds because people who enjoy seeing this stuff can see it and those who find it irritating/nauseating/FPS breaking can choose to not see it.

I have seen some objections to toggles of this kind on the forums and I really don't understand it at all. What you have on your character is visible to you, so people always see their own fashion (and I do love some fashion!), if toggles existed (and were done right) people could also choose to see what everyone else is wearing. The only conclusion I can draw from the objections I have seen is that people with things that others find blinding/nauseating (especially in large groups where there is a lot of it) are motivated by what others see and not by what they can see for themselves. This is a little sad imo. What others do/think/say/see shouldn't impact on your enjoyment of the game and your character. Unless ofc things that are said are offensive, which goes without saying.

I'd want this to be part of the options menu, not a mastery for three reasons:

1) It should be available to everyone, not just those who have purchased an expansion, trained up the mastery track and have enough points to spend on it.

2) Masteries are permanent effects, there's no way to disable them once they're unlocked. So if (like the speed boost in cities) I find I'd actually prefer not to have it I'm stuck. This is something I suspect I'd want to be able to turn on and off based on what I'm doing at the time, but at the very least I'd like to be able to try it out and then decide if I want to use it or not.

3) Putting it in the options menu makes it more likely we'll get more control than a simple on/off toggle. For example different levels of effects, or seperate controls for your own skills, other players skills and enemy skills.

It should be a standard option to turn off other ppl's mini's/infusions/and other flash and glow that pains the eyes. This is not only better for the eyes but also a lot better for players with epilepsy, migraines etc. And the players that love all their shiny and flash from skins and infusions and skills they can keep it toggled on.

Point 2 is wrong, u can mess with auto loot in the options menu.

Ok, so there's one exception where you can turn off a mastery...because they added it to the options menu. That doesn't change the fact that simply putting this option into the menu instead of making it a mastery would give players greater control over it.
