How the new daily system in Wizards Vault reduced my enjoyment of GW2 [Merged]

because I wanted the WvW rewards (now removed anyways), and I was fine with that.  Some nights, when I didn't have a lot of time, sure, I'd choose the fastest option.

So you did it for rewards, but now the rewards aren't there.... Sounds like you wouldn't pick them anyways?

Wvw has its weekly achievements in the normal achievement tab btw. If you want to do some wvw for some wvw rewards then that's still the possbility for you, except in the form of weeklies.

I suppose where this may make a difference would be the WvW and PvP players, who right now might get tossed an option that is hard to do or take a while, and then see they have a fast PvE option.  So I guess maybe that would drain some players from that activity - though the counter is, those same players might very well be choosing 100% PvE anyways, knowing they can get it done in under 5 minutes, and then hop into WvW/PvP once done with those dailies.  Which I'm not sure if what was really intended.

At this point you seem to be just blindly guessing.

Regardless, I consider this a fairly significant downgrade in terms of choice, and have never seen a really good rationale for it.  Prevent players from doing fastest dailies?  Maybe, but as said above, if you choose PvE, that set is going to be very fast regardless.

In that case you can knock the dailies out of the way and still play whatever you want after that, which includes wvw.
...right?

I guess, it's okay to do dailies faster, if we have weeklies now. That's my take on it. We gained something, we didn't lose something...at least I didn't.

I just wish there was more substance to the dailies. No more keep or tower capturer, instead I get escort a dolyak. Not the e d of the world for dailies to be less engaging, but a missed opportunity to pair the new, much better rewards, with more engaging dailies.

Some other aproach: if ppl who run wvw or pvp only for dailes, now turn 100% pve, maybe that is a good thing, for hardcore pvp chads, being pug with some random commanders who run only for dailies, maybe not the best experience. So just letting everyone run dailies with content they like has some sense. This could work better for ppl who prefer only 1 type.

This could be worse for ppl who run 2 types, as they get 2x2 from each group and they can roll really mean one.

But if you run only pve new system is good.

I like that a keep isn't daily. Tower was ok.

I kind of miss (at least a little bit, not entirely) veteran camping. The thrill of seeing if the enemy player will respect the unofficial truce during veteran camping or not. 😄

Many a time I've been stomped by the enemy for being there after the vet was killed.  😆   A few times, it was before  😢

I agree that they should have kept the mechanic of a player's freedom to choose from all game modes equally without limitation.

But the claim that this new system was in any way "FOMO" is absolutely ridiculous, since it was made very clear that rewards will never vanish after a period of time.

Just wanted to point out that they only said that cosmetics would not disappear from the vault, so conversely, that leaves everything else as fair game to be rotated out.

As I can't remember spirit vestibule as part of my dailies from yesterday, I guess the problem here is, that there are many different versions of the dailies and so the rarer gamemode/expansion-combinations will sadly not have enough people.

you are lucky,  Spirit vestibule pops almost every week.  The  WORST event ever!   You do it once then NEVER AGAIN.  There are so many choices for daily, yet many repeat almost every day.  Anet please enlarge the choices.  So boring to repeat the same thing every day.  👎

Ever since I got what I needed from Spirit vestibule for a collection that awarded a mastery point, I flat out refuse to do this one again.

This.  Same few things, over and over and over.  Activity.  Dodge 3 times.  Combo moves.  Look, I love getting easy AA, but things that would make the maps busier here and there, at least for a short time, would be way more fun.

Edited to add:  How about dungeons?  They're dead, and if they were a daily more often, it would help players acquire dungeon-specific items, achievements, etc.

I have a feeling that daily dungeons were probably seldom done, simply because they are perceived to take a while and you need a group.  With power creep, most paths can be done fairly quickly.  But doing a dungeon path as a weekly might make sense, just like fractals sometimes show up as weeklies now.

The difficulty of dailies and weeklies seem really inconsistent.  I have Antre of Adjournment JP as a weekly.  While a slightly longer JP, still not very long (few minutes).  But I've also had Vexa's Lab as a daily - which probably takes longer.  Now I like short weeklies, but it makes me wonder what criteria was used to make decisions on what goes where.

Given how many of the dailies are really quick and simple, I have no idea why they removed so many of the old ones.  Given that things like gather 10 items, do 3 dodges/3 combos,  vista viewer, and others, can be done in under a minute, what is the issue of all the old JPs that were also fast to do still being in the rotation?  I'd rather there be a random selection from 20 JPs than the current system where it seems to be about 6.

Yeah, the unwritten rule of a truce at the veteran creature spawn point often does not extend past everyone getting an opportunity to tag the vet.

I watched a video by the Lazy Peon earlier this week.  The topic was things in MMO's he dislikes.  Near the top of the list was daily chores, which he describes as things to do to get some desirable reward, after which he can then go and do the things in game he wants to do (he seems to favor engaging combat).

GW2 dailies (and weeklies) for that matter feel largely like chores I'm doing to get a reward.  If I ever feel like that's all I'm playing for, I'll be gone, because the chores are for the most part not engaging.  Given the many ANet decisions which have sucked the life out of much of the game, for me I'm closer to that point than I've ever been.

So, I'd like to recommend that we leave the dailies alone at this point.  Let ANet stop putting effort into what's essentially always going to be a boring laundry list of tasks that is never going to hit a sweet spot for a majority of players.  Let them move on to other systems which might actually breathe more life into the game, rather than persistent fiddle-futzing with what is at best a half-measure to generate regular attendance.

Ommv.

For me it has become so boring doing the dailies. I think I had this canta armoury thing 3 times this week or that canta ghost thing keeps popping up. I did it but can't be bothered two days later. And how many break bars do I want to keep breaking so soon after another. My dailies now seem to revolve around the refuge camp in Amnon (complete a task and loot) and the bandits in Queensdale (perform a dodge, loot, combo). I logged on tonight and thought I can't be bothered so I logged out.  I love the game but my interst in waning. PS. The wizards chest is a good idea. The execution is not!

You can enjoy playing GW2 without doing the dailies.  There are many other things that you can do.

  • 4 months later...

In the old system I never bothered doing dailies because the 2g wasn't worth the 15 minutes of time it took to complete.

In the new system I feel strongly psychologically manipulated to do all dailies/weeklies for the first 4-5 weeks to get all the new exclusive skins, coins, clovers, build templates, legendary crafting kit and 90g, and account gold, and then I stop doing them again because the 2g is not worth the 15 minutes of time.

Keep in mind, most of the rewards I listed used to be something you'd get for just logging in. Without those, I'd probably quit doing the new dailies after 2-3 weeks.

I've never considered someone saying, "We will pay you X to do Y," to be some form of psychological manipulation. If I dont want to do it I dont.

You might want to double check the /age of your account.

Dailies serves as a mechanic to manipulate its players' addiction mentality, given this thread I'd say it's working as intended, and very effectively.

So, when I dont bother with dailies or weeklies its an indication of addiction?

Unfortunately, this is irrelevant at this point.

Many people with addiction syndrome do not feel that they are addicted, despite their log indicated otherwise.

I miss the old daily log ins. I loved choosing between the offerings and getting closer to a chest for logging in every day. Now? I get points? I don't care about those points, and I while I see the value in skins, I wish they had just left in the old system too. That way it would honestly let people choose what to do. Want to do the regular old dailies? Do em and earn two gold. Have a full account? Get a shiny thingy for logging in. Want to do the vault things? Awesome! Get points and unlock epic loots! Don't restrict me because you're lazy.

Not being bothered by a system that offers more rewards for daily interaction, not losing any sleep over not completing objectives and being perfectly fine not even interacting with it is probably the definition of not being addicted something.

Or ... do Vault things that are very similar to the old dailies and choose rewards that are very similar to the old rewards (except you get more).
